- In this video I demonstrate how I cut a straight edge into leather. This is an important step in processing leather. It allows you to cut straps and pieces of leather with a nice edge already made.
Enjoy the tutorial!
Lots of things to think about when cutting leather. Thanks for the tips. I'll make sure to use them in the future.
Excellent tips - thank you!
Hi Mark, thanks for your great videos, they have help me a lot on some of my own projects. regarding this one, I wonder if you could use a rotary blade to do the straight cutting of the edge of the leather piece. It is because I just have done some smaller projects and I have found very easy to use a rotary knife
Do you cut your hide with the smooth side facing up or the suede side facing up?
I’m afraid the ruler would leave marks on the smooth side..
Hey!
Both ways should work just fine, as long as you keep your blade at a nice, 90 degree angle.
You can always tape/glue something soft onto the bottom of your ruler!

calling that a g-clamp threw me off for a bit. apparently the "g-clamp" and "c-clamp" are synonymous.
Excellent tutorial, thanks.
👍😉
Just wondering where one could find the straight edge you used? i like the idea of the handle on it.
Look in a workman's tool shop. They'll have a choice.
@@NunguTZ Thank you for your reply, is that a website or a store? I have never heard of it.
@@Harleyrk99 Sorry, I was very unspecific. I'd tell you to look at Throm's in Büdingen, which is where I go. As I shop offline when possible, I'm not much help with online stores. I'd ask a craftsman where I live where they go for tools.
@@NunguTZ OK gotcha, thank you for the tip...
Also, do you have a video about your strips cutter?
Is it 3D printed?
Hey!
The "draw gauge" as it is called is made by C.S.Osborne, an American, quality brand. It is basically a heavy duty strap cutter.
