East Contra Costa Firefighters Battle RV Fire in Oakley

- At 12:50 pm Saturday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of an RV on fire in the 3100 block of Grant Road in the City of Oakley (Contra Costa County, CA).
Upon arrival, Battalion 5 located a fully involved RV on fire with Oakley Police also on scene. Engine 53 firefighters arrived on scene and began making fire attack, noting no other structures were threatened.
Firefighters were able to knockdown the fire without any issues. The cause is under investigation.

With over twenty years in the fire service, and as the County Arson Investigator I can say with confidence that you never really "fight" an RV, or a Camper fire, you just put them out.
So for this alarm we can call the these guys "fire putter outers".

Good to see those firefighters wearing oxygen tanks. All that plastic and treated wood and such burning isn’t healthy to breathe and we want them to be safe and healthy.
It's just compressed air in the tanks.
Those things are death traps but so are mobil homes.
I know it's easy to be Armchair IC, but a 2nd hose & some coordination may have helped.
A shame, looked like a decent RV.

Did anybody during putting out the fire thought of using foam due to the fact that they may have a propane tank in that RV? I doubt they do but you never know
I wouldn’t want an RV for this exact reason… Too much risk!
They say the majority of Rv fires originate from 3 way gas refrigerators
