RadioMaster Zorro Setting up buddy box training in EdgeTX

- In this video we will set up both the Instructor and Student radio’s for RC flight training. Back in the day we had to wrestle the controller out of the student’s hands as they looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights of a car and their beloved model aircraft heading flat out towards terra firma! Nowadays it is much easier process and more relaxing for both the instructor and the student RC flyer.
You just need two OpenTX or EdgeTX radios and a 3.5mm jack cable and 10 minutes of programming.

Have you setup a Expresslrs Zorro (master) with the WT01 dongo and a TX16S (Slave), if so can you share the steps? Thanks in advance .
When I was 10 my dad just handed me the tranny and told me to do gentle turns with rudder only with gentle up elevator.
That’s cool. RC flying makes memories that is why we need to protect our right to fly our models. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Bill.
However, you keep skipping over the += setting. How exactly does it function??
Are the stick values additive? What is going on if both instructor and student are controlling the same surface?
Yes you are correct += equates to Add.
Is using trainer mode the best way to get a pistol grip surface radio to 'run' opentx/edgetx. Eg setup a surface model with an open tx radio then use the trainer port to use the trigger throttle and wheel to turn?
That could be possible but I have never tried it.
Do both transmitters need to be bound to the same reciever for this to work?
No only the instructors radio is bound to the models receiver.
Does internal RF have to be off on the student tx? Thanks
It could be on but no need because the student radio does not need to be bound to the receiver. Also your battery would last longer with the internal module off.
The cable could be anyone with just jack 3,5?
Yes any cable should work.
I did that and it did not work on either one. I know how to set up buddy box on OpenTX and I think maybe the Zorros have one of the trainer ports that only works with their cables like the TX16s before the MKII. I have the MKII so maybe that's why it works on that and not the Zorros.
It will be the cable I think.
@@the-happy-RC-flyer Ya I used the affiliate link in your other video about the cable and ordered a set. Thanks
@@BladeScuffer thank you.
I cannot get this to work with 2 Zorros. I can get it to work with a TX16s as Master and either of the Zorro as Slave but not between the 2 Zorros
at all.
Hi Cameron, it should work fine. Make sure you change one of the Zorro radios to Master.
Thanks for highlighting this as a potential problem. I never considered that not all cables will work!
Thank you for your effort,
I have 2 Radiomaster Zorro...
But like every simple tutorial on CZcams, it absolutely doesn't work...
Hi Renaud, give me a bit more information and I may be able to help you, what’s going wrong?
@@the-happy-RC-flyer Hello,
I have a Radiomaster Zorro ELRS and a Radiomaster Pocket ELRS.
I plug in the jack and it's impossible for the Zorro to recognize the pocket.
None of the “analog joysticks” move.
I have already tried in the past with other radio controls (Beta FPV) and the same, the trainer mode does not work.
Firstly are you sure all the settings are correct? Are you using a stereo 3.5mm Jack plug ? If all of this is correct try just pulling out the plug in the Zorro slightly and see if the radios connect.
@@the-happy-RC-flyer Bingo, the problem really comes from the jack plug!
It must be pushed all the way into the zorro and must not be pushed all the way into the pocket to be able to transmit the signal.
A big thank-you! 🤗
