There have been many historical instances of tax strikes / rebellions -

ACT should threaten to "pull the plug" on the coalition unless this rubbish spending (and lots more like it) is axed.
Womens Affairs, Human Wrongs Commission, Waitangi Tribunal (and I'm sure there are other wastes of money out there).
Auckland Council has over 10,000 people paid over $100k - I kid you not. That's $1 *billion* right there.
Heck, 60-70 percent of council tasks could probably be done by AI now (and a whole lot cheaper and better).
If ACT did threaten to pull the plug, they'd be polling at 30 percent or more.

Maori spirituality, karakea, waiata are now approved in parliament and practicised by TPM MPs - all paid for by the taxpayers. We don't have the singing of hymns or the spiritual practices of any other groups as common practice in parliament. In schools we must teach Maori culture and spiritual practices in our schools mandated and funded by the MoE, but when it comes to say Christianity parents have to specifically opt in if anything non culturally, Christian is even offered!

Maori life expectancy was said to be 45, and English life expectancy was said to be 35 when Captain Cook arrived. Not sure how they came up with those numbers though. The English one is probably reliable because it comes from English historians, while the Maori one, one suspects, may have just been pulled out of the air to make a political point. In England at the time, about 1/3 of the population died in infancy/childhood, 1/3 died of syphilis or TB as a young adult, and the other third lived to a ripe old age.

ChatGPT: Sure, here's a playful take on "woke rubbish":
In the kaleidoscope of societal discourse, Sean Plunket's quest for enlightenment dances on the precipice of paradigms past. His intellectual voyages sail upon the winds of change, where the waves of conformity crash against the shores of intersectionality. With each syllable, he dismantles the oppressive structures of discourse, weaving a tapestry of inclusivity that embraces even the most marginalized punctuations of thought.
Plunket's rhetoric, a symphony of postmodern musings, challenges the binaries that once defined our consciousness. In his lexicon, words bloom like dandelions through the concrete of normativity, embracing fluidity and multiplicity with each breath. His woke compass navigates the labyrinth of privilege, where each turn unveils a new perspective, a new narrative that demands recognition.
But amidst the cacophony of woke voices, Plunket stands as a beacon of woke rubbish, a pied piper leading the procession towards a horizon where binaries blur into gradients of understanding, where the dumpster fire of traditionalism ignites the phoenix of progress. So let us raise our recycled cups to Shaun Plunket, for in his woke rubbish, we find the compost of tomorrow's ideas, fermenting beneath the surface of today's paradigms.
There you go Sean! In the prompt I wrote: "Sean Plunket wants you to write some woke rubbish."

I was raised by excellent Māori foster parents in the far north. They taught me te reo Māori and we spent a lot of time on our local marae. All the singing of waiata and hymns were done to a recognised western musical scale, mostly with guitars. Yes, we had 2 or 3 folks who were good at playing the nguru - a nose flute - usually during a funeral, and that had a very unique sound that doesn't match a western scale. But all other traditional songs and tunes were to the western scale - even chants could be musically related to western notation on sheet music.

The Tikanga Maori etc type approach with prayer etc. could be beneficial for occupations. There are many approaches, and there should be funding to support the work of counselors. Various faith and cultural approaches. A disease like cancer can be made worse without support on levels, other than medical intervention and clinical settings. Things like laughter clinics, where patients are encouraged to laugh, and express themselves could be extremely beneficial. Especially for somebody going through such a scary diagnosis and treatment. The health of the body is much more than simply physical interventions. Emotional commune support can be crucial, Especially for people who do not have much family support, etc..

And what is so different between Tikanga Maori and Christian approaches to dealing with illness?
Both recommend making good with your god or gods through prayer.
Both recommend making the most of the relationships a person has with family, friends and the wider community.
Both recommend spending time communing with nature and taking pleasure in the small things - even down to drawing a breath or smelling a flower.
Both provide hospice and palliative care.
Why is your view of western approaches limited to "medical intervention and clinical care? Is that all you think we do?
Do you think tikanga has a monopoly on spiritual wellness?

working in the clearly broken NZ health system I see patients in Whakatane that have to travel to Hamilton several times a week for renal dialysis - this and the many other deficiencies such as access to cancer or cardiac treatments should be funded ahead of any of this ' nice to have ' add on services - it is pure madness

@@jeffappleton926 Yes, As I pointed to, "Various faith and cultural approaches." Christian being one of them. I'm suggesting the support program should be a general field, not necessarily seperate, with a special Maori focus.

In which Sean discovers the research sector... There's so much more!
The good thing is that it's public, and health, which means it's evaluable by scientific method.
So let's see the evaluations, maybe the past ones too, if time-series consistent data is required, eg lags of 1, 3, 5 years?
The ones which show no, null, or negative results should be documented and shut down. The Council should have a tracker for past approvals of garbage that didn't work, ie "we've funded 14 kaupapa studies into the kaupapa merits of kaupapa, do we need another one?". This is important because much of it sounds like notions looking for methodology looking for purpose.
