People like coney and others with Panda have confirmed there will NOT be a causal rule set and that it will be worth it. I’m confident in Panda and with they can do.
Considering that they are partnering with Panda, I think this will be a legit circuit. Large cash prizes. Good rule set. 2022 might be the year to bring back retired Melee players and draw in new players as well.
Hopefully, despite a Slippi surge competitive Melee feels like it's dying a little since some of the best players like Mang0 and Zain just don't show up to non-Summit majors anymore...super lame.

I think they are setting up an updated switch melee.
Historically official Nintendo tournaments have merch as the prize. The labo build competition had limited edition joy-con cardboard colored. The smash 4 3ds tournament in Japan had a limited edition smash kimono for the winner of singles and doubles: and autograph on your 3ds. In theory, these 1/few collectibles are worth a lot at almost no cost to Nintendo. I think it would be cool to give the winner a stock share of Nintendo (56.83 USD) with a commemorative certificate. A different idea would be a limited edition amiibo as a trophy that fits into a larger trophy.

This has to be the biggest Smash announcement ever.
Data miners have found that the Nintendo Online membership Virtual Consoles all have numerical designations. NES is 1, SNES is 2, N64 is 3, and Sega Genesis is 5. There has been speculation as to why a number 4 is missing and if it means we will be getting another in the future. Maybe a number 4 would be for Gamecube. It could be that Nintendo is promoting Smash Bros Melee at this tournament in anticipation that when the Gamecube Virtual Console is released that it could help them to sell more Expanded memberships to people who want to play Melee on it.
I wouldn't think so. 4 is known as an unlucky number in East Asian Culture since it sounds like the word 'death' in their languages.

I think it will be typical official tournament ruleset. The prizes I think will be large but not insane. Think mlg in the mid 2000s

The only way this makes sense to me is if they are bringing Melee to switch. When Hungrybox talked to Coney they said there was more crazy news coming. That would make a ton of sense, Nintendo has been all about old games and remaster lately..

I'm trying to be optimistic but my biggest concern is that Nintendo is doing this to later roll over on already existing melee tournaments so they can say, 'but we ARE supporting melee in a professional, competitive capacity', but that might be too cynical, idk.
