    I ski since I am 3years old, and I can tell you I am an over average skier. 15 years ago I was at the race there and a day after the downhill race the steif was open for public. So I drove it down a few times, directly out of the starting house.
    hey man I can tell you, these guys are absolutely crazy! it was completely pure ice, and with ice I mean not ice witch you know from normal pists, no it was blue ice witch you know from skating!
    With normal skiers you have no chance to survive.
    since that experience they have all my respect, I mean I respect them before as well but you know in television it looks a little bit harmless but when you are in the starting house and you look down, you will sh*t in your pents...

      What do you need your edges cut as sharp as razer blades to hold on in the corners? or is their a technique to keep the edge from getting away from you and crashing at 100kmh? I'm a Snowboarder and I usually stay off icy runs cause I hate losing an edge, and just enjoy playful powder riding compared to going fast. Especially for me on icy patches I easily lose my edge at 60kmh and going down that fast can be end up extremely bad.

    I skied the Streif 3 years ago. One section near the bottom funnels from a wide slope to a narrow nearly 90 degree turn. It must take amazing strength to hold an edge on that turn at high speed, without crashing.

    Man if you have ever skied at about 100 kmh you know how fast this is. I can't imagine doing that on this bumpy track while having to deal with extremely long jumps and really tight turns.... This is extreme

    • @cvn6555
      @cvn6555 Před 2 lety +3

      I've gone that fast. In a straight line. On groomed corduroy. In a huge bowl with a flat bottom. With no turns and no ice. It felt stupid fast even with perfect conditions. These guys can really ski on their edges and slice through the ice. Huge balls and brave hearts.

    • @yellowtunes2756
      @yellowtunes2756 Před 2 lety +1

      @@cvn6555 yeah, 100 km/h isn't that fast in perfect condition with sun, no ice, no bumps, no jumps etc, you don't even need strong legs. But that ride is as far away from "perfect" as possible. They can make it even worse only by adding landmines and giant rock from Indiana Jones following you

    The body is saying 'wait, nooo, we are going down that?"
    the mind says yes we are and we must reach forward for more speed or there is no point'
    The Soul silences them, when in the zone, and celebrates the victory of just being there!

      Actually it is a red piste, there are only two places where the racing track make a shortcut: The Mausfalle, and the little piece between the OberHasusbergkante and the final shuts in order to get the rough terrain on the diagonal at the end of the Hausbergkante. The only problem is that racers do it on a snow that is as hard as steel!
