The Lair of Scylla | Epic the Musical Animatic WIP

- I was vibrating with too much excitement for the Thunder Saga, so I decided to churn this out instead of sleepinggggg
This may get fleshed out, it may not, but this is a WIP/rough animatic of how I envision the opening to Scylla goes!
I know that Scylla and Charybdis are supposed to be close to each other, but I envisioned Scylla's Lair to be in this like canyon but above the ocean...so somewhere like dark and suffocating, but not like a cave (because there needs to be an exit lol). My design of Scylla is based off of moray eels! Not from the Odyssey, but other descriptions of Scylla have her with canines attached to her form, so I thought the little face appendages that some moray eels have were close enough hahaha. May share some better sketches as well.
Ngl when I first heard this song on the livestream, my jaw dropped with Eurylocus' confession. And weaving that in with the song for Scylla is so good!! @JayHerrans once again knocking it out of the park!!

Tysm everyone for taking the time to watch my WIP!! I have some other WIPs I'm gonna share and then I'll aim to finish this one!! And i may redesign my Scylla just a tad 👀 pls stay safe and stay tuned!! 🫶
Watching Odysseus' angered expression when Eurylochus confessed, I pictured his thoughts being like, "You?! You are the reason I have to take this path?! Why I've had to make this terrible choice?!"
I don't think Odysseus cares that much about the sacrifice of men. He is angry that he is taking longer to see Penelope
@@yay29823 I feel like Act 1 Odysseus would have cared, but Act 2 Odysseus? Nahhh
@@artofparkerb Oh, Act 1 Odysseus would've definitely cared. Although it's sad to see the guy change so much due to loss, that's what makes the story entertaining. I love drama and tragedy 😌
@@yay29823so here’s the thing. I think he ABSOLUTELY cares - but I think he’s chalked it up as just another burden he has to shoulder, because he knows he Must Do What Is Necessary from here on out.
He warned Eurylochus in Luck Runs Out: Comply with this, or we’ll all die in this
1:29 Eurylochus: "...wait, who's been singing soprano?"
LOL🤣
The anger on Odysseus’s face when he realizes that Eurylochus is the reason he lost his fleet and his best shot home.
Ody: …Eurylochus hold this torch and stand as close to the edge of the ship as you can please and thank you.
funfact ithaca was in sight when that happened, Sure odysseus is the reason poseidon was mad but Eurylochus is the reason most of the men died
See its so much sadder having read the Odyssey and knowing in the story they were maybe a half days journey from Ithica. They could see the houses along the border, then somebody had to go and open the wind bag and send them all the way to Laistrygonian. If the bag wasnt opened they would of been home with the whole fleet basically 😢
@@auraguardianemerald6667 frrrr like they were truly right there 💀 but Homer said nah, to the giants you go
I love how you showed the inner conflict of Ody here before he finally makes the order for the torches, as if he was still struggling with the choice to go through with it until that was the straw on the camel's back that made him finally settle on it.
@@ForenzaAudio thank you!! Yeah that was exactly what I was going for 🥹 I thought it was such a great moment of just Scylla singing, getting into Ody's head as he has to process this info.
Yea same dude!
Considering the full song was only released a couple of days ago this is impressive how much progress you’ve made
Love the Scylla serpents poking their heads above the water just out of view of the crew at the beginning. Very spooky
Oooooooh, I sure hope that's defeat and betrayal I can see on the rowers' faces. After all, their friends died to Poseidon as well. They had love ones waiting for them in Ithaca as well. Together, Eurylochus and Odysseus robbed them of their own families and friends.
Also, is that a Scylla dog in the center? I will never get tired of seeing monstrous Scylla doggos
@@RawwkinGrimmie64 you would be right!! I wanted to capture the regret on the rower's faces because I imagine Eurylocus was sort of convinced to open the wind bag by the crew. He also probably wanted to know what was in there but wanted to stay loyal to Ody.
@@RawwkinGrimmie64 and it's kind of Scylla's dog! I was thinking of like an Ursula type of design where she's half octopus, but instead of tentacles, they're eels 👀
Woah- his eyes after the confession gave me chills!
dudeee I totally imagined odysseus getting pissed off and deciding in that moment that hee had to do it. I was great work
you got Ody's emotions across so well!!! and your Scylla is _terrifyin_. I also love how obviously terrible Eurylochus feels about this, his guilt is so raw
Love the painted look the background and scylla
has 😮😊
WOAAH THIS WAS AMAZING!! And so quick after the release, too. Much respect! You have to do the rest of the song
Yooo!! Moray eel representation!
@@hannahparry5836 woo!! I had just watched a video by Zefrank about eels and then the Thunder Saga dropped and I was like 👀
I LOVE THE ANIMATION STYLE ❤
This is looking really good so far
This is already amazing
This is amazing progress so fast, also 10/10 would still boop for the monster mouths
What a masterpiece!
Ahh love the Scylla design! Great job!! Can´t wait to see the full thing - BUT please get some sleep xD
@@BENWELLAnimation 😂 I did in fact post this then went straight to bed
@@artofparkerb Haha same, did a short animatic for suffering after it came out and accidently just worked through the whole night because I was so hyped xD
Whoa! You are one of the first to upload a new animatic from the thunder saga. This is really good and I love who you drew Odysseus and Eurylochus!!
@@Impimperator thank you!!! 🫶
you're so talented!!😍😍 can you do a tutorial?
@@Volpe-vg7lj haha I could try? Not something I had thought of, but I might! I hate to say a lot of it comes from how I visualize things in my head 😅 but I did do some effects in After Effects!
@@artofparkerb You are wonderful! Keep it up!
