    The disadvantage of the double end bag, you need to have somewhere to attache it to. If your in a rental property you may not be allowed to make holes in the ceiling and floor. Whereas the cobra bag is free standing. At the moment I'm using the lonsdale ironman dummy, because I've nowhere to hang a bag.

    I bought a title reflex bag back in 2007 (or earlier, I cant remeber) and it came with an air pump bag instead of the foam material the new ones come with. It works best when its anchored into the ground and when you put some power into your punches you get that satisfying pop and it comes back at you as fast as a double end bag.

  • @JiggidyJives

    The cobra sounds like a squeaky old office chair while the double ended bag sounds like _boxing_ , which does it for me. Besides, you can have intense workouts with hard shots on the double ended as well, you just have to be somewhat good at it to pull it off.

    Great video would just like to add that with much more you can do with a double end bag depending on how you set it up I have mine set to loose and that certainly does fly around the harder you punch that faster it comes back and I can even throw combos close to full extension which makes the workout even more difficult when the tapping motion becomes too easy. Don't forget there are also different materials that come with the DEB which also makes the rebound a lot more harder to predict changing the cord to a bungee cord also adds another dimension where by the bag starts to move in an up and down motion (a few inches up and down from centre) as well when you hit it picks up momentum. TIGHT setting for flow and movement Loose for conditioning and simulation of punches coming your way.

    I was thinking about adding a cobra bag. But maybe not now. Another downside to the cobra bag may be that it takes up much more space, or that its harder to get out of the way. For the price of a cobra bag, I rather invest in a free standing heavy bag. (Any suggestions btw not over $300). I ordered a cheap double end bag on eBay to start. My coworker put up a heavy bag we hit after hours and the workout is great. Wish I could hang a heavy bag since it’s cheaper but I have no where essential to place it as I would have to reinforce my ceiling lol 😆

    I improvised my double end bag. I used a small basketball. It is very hard to hit because it is small and it swings faster because of the bounce from the air pressure. Plus maybe I was kinda careless on how I tied it that whenever I punch it I couldn't predict where it was going

  • @onthebeachinsitges
    @onthebeachinsitges Před 3 lety +6

    I have both. The Boxing Bar reflex bag is too predictable because the weight of the ball means that it arcs predictably. The time it takes to swing from one side of its range to the other is enough to be pretty sure of landing your shot on it. So it isn't very challenging. I use it mostly for footwork drills and it is pretty good for warming up and down. But it adds less technical value than a well set up double ended bag

  • @ginelleamps
    @ginelleamps Před 4 lety +5

    For the double end bag, you can use the round color codes exercise bands. I have used various poundages and also tried two bands top and bottom. All give different results. I currently use two 80lb. Bands. One top and one bottom. My ceiling height is ten feet. I stretch the bands tight pulling the bands through a ring on the floor and the ceiling and use heavy duty tie wraps and duck tape to secure it. The result is that I get a LOT of resistance. You can deliver power to this thing and not have it go half way across the room. The bands now come with metal clips. I clip on at the bag and cut the clip off the other end, and adjust at the ceiling and the floor.

    Most people have their double end bags strung too tight. If you have it set up properly a stiff shot should have it coming back to you so you have to block or move not to get hit. Much more useful than the reflex bag. There are some good tutorials on how to make a reflex bag using pvc, they seem to have better action than the commercial models.

    I want a cobra bag and have been looking at them a long time but cost is a factor. I actually just made a double ended bag during quarsntine and it works great. I spend a lot of time on the double ended bag (I want it small and as fast as possible. Ha!) and the speed bag at my gym so needed something for home... Was also thinking about a speed bag but noise and vibration may be a factor for my neighbours if I set it up in my garage since it's attached to my neighbours garage. Still thinking about it and how to noise proof it. Good video though! Thanks!

      hi dee, I have a couple of ideas to share.. for a double end bag, mine is pretty small ..its made by Title and is a teardrop shape, much like a small speedbag but it has loops on the top and bottom for the bungee cords..that one is fast but it makes noise... i often like to workout late nite and it keeps rattling the cieling... my gym is in basement...so I also made a double end prescision ball, 5 to 6 inches and its a dense foam...I used a coat hanger to make a hole all the way through it and then attached some thin elastic bungee cord to the coat hanger end and pushed it thru the ball...suspend both ends of the elastic ...I have a small eyehook in ceiling and the lower end is tied to a 10 pound dumbell on the floor... the ball is so lite that it doesnt stress the eyehook or move the dumbell..its silent and is great for flow work or slipping and countering...reallly ,anything i would do on the regular double end, can be done on the small one... you dont need the gloves, I just use wraps, but often, i dont even bother with them...its a small target and takes skill to hit it clean... when you are working with prescision , Not having the gloves on takes lots more accuracy becuz ur hands are smaller and ur aiming at a small target,,,,its too easy with the gloves on..... when u find the hieght and tension u want , put a knot in the elastic on each end so that the ball doesnt ride up or fall down the cord... as for parts, i got the ball for a buck at the Dollar store in the kids area and the bungee elastic at walmart in the crafts section.. total cost under `5 bucks..

    I remember a kid walking into our gym when I was a kid and the trainer told him to hit the double end bag lightly and he didn’t listen literally as soon as the trainer was walking away he tried to be funny and he hit it as hard as he could it sprang straight back at his face and bust his nose blood everywhere and the trainer just said “told you” 😂

    Is there a such thing as a weighted [or aqua] double end bag that could theoretically emulate the resistance of a cobra reflex bag?🤔
    Could you fill a double end bladder with water to emulate spring resistance? 🧐🤔
    (I would guess, in large part, no. But ey, who knows? 🤷🏼‍♂️)

      I haven’t seen one yet but that’s an interesting idea

      Adding resistance to a double end bag would remove one of the bag's major benefits. Using a double end bag trains a fighter to maintain proper form & react appropriately when they miss their target. The feedback that a weighted double end bag would give would nullify that aspect.
      On the other hand, it's worth a try.

    @csquaredboxing in setting up the double end bag, the bag should be set to head level?

    If you already got a heavy bag - get the double end bag. If you don't, get the cobra because it also works on power.

    I have a tuff wear double end bag, it’s starting to wear out. Do u like the ringside bag or would u recommend a different one. I’ve heard that RDX bags are poor quality

    To make a cobra bag all you need is one of those spring bar exercises you can buy on ebay for $12. Mount a soccer ball onto a toilet plunger. Either make a base out of concrete or buy an umbrella stand base. I could make one for $30. In Australian dollars these are like $400. My home made reflex bag is better than any of those everlast ones.

      I wouldn't waste your money mate. Get a cheap pool noodle, cut it in two and have someone work em for ya. If you want a more firm feel, cut them and put small pvc pipe in them. As far as home gyms and self training go... double end bag, cylinder like aqua bag, a 15" or under aqua bag and if you have space a 17 or 21 inch round aqua bag (but never buy a brand name, polyform Norway or USA and with aqua bags always never ever let them get cold). All of this should be under 250 USD.

      Not that I know of yet unless you do a custom weld job or bring it to a fabricator
