i had my stroke nov 3 202 an started my rehab a week later. After the first couple of sessions i developed the same attitude linda, think outside the box.. it did not make the rehab nurses happy and it really pushed the rehab people. My goal was to be back to work in January and i worked my butt off. Jan 5 2023 i was back at work. i still have a ways to go to get my left hand better i think it will take me another 2 months to get my hand to 80%. my attitude was never give up, don't quit. if they want me to do 10 of whatever rehab exercise i did 20 or 30, and small improvements are good. i constantly worded on walking, taking and my arm and hand in and after my discharge. i kept a record of what i did so i could see my improvements in writing. god bless you Linda for your strength and perseverance.

I have searched all the websites for answers to my speech, voice, throat troubles and I came across your excellent story. My daughter had a stroke two years ago and she has lost use of her right arm, and her right leg, because of her stroke. She also has aphasia, but she is alert and can sing songs, but she gets confused when there are too many people talking. And I don't know what I have and I have gone for tests and the doctors say there is nothing wrong with me. I can't speak, but I make sounds. I can't chew my food so it needs to be pureed and I have a hard time swallowing. But like you I am healing myself by doing research on the web and practicing my speech. But I am able to move my limbs, and do other physical things. It's just my speech that's affected. I hate to bore you but I needed to explain my situation and you gave me hope and inspriation. I have a positive mind and I AM GOING TO HEAL MYSELF. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Linda has a very inspiring and informative story but I admit I'm interested more in the rehab part than her wonderful family happenings. That's OK. All strokes and recoveries are different and so are our stories. My two strokes were definitely not as complicated as Linda's, but to have a year and a halve's hard, grinding work and progress wiped out in the few seconds of the second episode was crushing to me both physically and especially mentally. Being a 12 year pancreatic cancer survivor, a well as other medical penances, gave me some insight as to what hard work and patience is all about but still I am having some very discouraging days, and weeks. Since the early days of my first episode I've been a self taught, serious neuro-plasticity advocate and feel like I'm alone in this realm. Linda is so correct, some of us know more about n-p through study on our own than the med folks treating us! I'm a semi retired PGA of America golf professional having 52 years in the PGA Half Century Club plus twelve additional years of apprenticeship working as an assistant professional. My shelf life is running out but I'm going to keep on truckin' as long as I'm on the green side of the divot! I'm eighty two (82) years old as we speak so it's not too late for you folks who are sitting in a rocking chair drinking beer!

This is just what I felt and feel like...
I was 66 when I had my stroke which affected my right hand dominant side. In Scotland the after care for survivors is nil especially if you are older. I decided to go to gym myself and do certain excersising which I decided myself through intuition and common sense. I didn't go into the scientific bit as far as Linda but did keep practising neuro plasticity excercises. Many of the things she thought and experienced are very similar to mine. Especially trying her semi high heels and red dress practice. I am walking .. her throwing her stick and leg brace off was more for my vanity nothing else. I identify with her thoughts about some doctors and the way she was treated by some doctors and nurses...and especially the one with the twinkle in their eyes the kind ones who tried to empathize and still treat you as a normal human being. It makes all the difference while you are trying to recover. I am 70 years old but I'm still trying. If I hadn't went my own way and just sat down and gave in I would still be in a wheelchair. Another small thing that was relevant to me was the barefoot walking....in rehab I used to insist on walking barefoot to toilet myself which caused the nurses no end of worry in case I fell and they had to fill in forms for an accident report just before they came off shift. While I remember the same in shower I did not want a man washing me nevermind a woman. They tried to say 8 had no choice but I got my way! Smashing Linda but I'm older and haven't so long to practice because age kicks in. I was exactly the same mindset as you Linda until I fell..It made me realise how vulnerable I was. I am very careful now I don't take chances like I used to but am still fighting!
