This sound more like a Daft Punk song than a Weeknd song...
The Bible have the "Sodom and Gomorrah" story where God destroyed both cities with fire for their sins. And when Lot's wife who was spared looked back, God transformed her a pillar of salt to kill her too.
The snake is the symbol of sin in the Bible.
But it also fits with the story of Medusa, with the petrification when looking into her eyes and the snakes on her head.
It may be a mix of the two stories.
