Hey there joke doctor.
I hear ya got some really
SICK JOKES.
This is such a good video and the title doesn't do it justice. I think everyone who wants to make it in comedy should watch it. I'm in my 20s and watched this purely out of curiosity, and I'm glad I did. It's about so much more than ageism and the advice of developing multiple skillsets and having many projects at the same time is spot on - kind of what Ari Shaffir recommends in his 4-hour recording that can be found on CZcams - bottom line, practice makes you better and doing comedy in more than one way prepares you for whatever opportunity might come your way in the future. Definitely going to take this advice.
Thanks Jerry!
Love all of your videos. You are always such a great help! Thanks brother!!
Hi Jerry, I'm a big fan of yours and your channel.
Great encouraging words of wisdom. After my second marriage batch of kids are older now, I'm finally doing what I love. I'm 66 years old and I'm back doing open mics. I started a CZcams channel just for me 2.5 years ago. I'm having fun... Great video. Thanks
I'm 66, and I'm terrified to do open mics, I'm creating body of material and hope to get it out there eventually
Great advice, and worth watching multiple times!
Such an underrated video
It really walks you through how things work out and you can equip that some of thinking to other problem in life.
I talk like this most of the time too. Most people get glazed eyes though.
Jerry another great video!! As a brand new comic who is also old that is very insightful for us older guys
Really good advice , as always!
Be so good they can't ignore you...
Jimmy Kimmel, Doug Stanhope, Louis CK, Larry David, George Carlin, Bob Hope, George Burns(!), Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, Bill (gulp) Cosby. All top names when they were over 45.
Roland Martinez Chris Rock as well,he just looks really young
@@bsinatra145 dave chappelle, bill burr
All of them started when they were young. The point of ageism is how hard it is to build a following when you start old.
This is heavy. I thought that maybe I was in a bad situation for not being narrow with my pursuits. I can see so many good examples of how I've already been able to attract different traffic flow now. This is like diversifying your bonds in investing for a better chance at accumulated interest. I wasn't tapping into my different entertainment options as much as I could by only rapping.
After raising my 2 daughters I want to accomplish my dreams of an actress comedian. I am 54, immigrant, Hispanic, thick accent, 4.5 tall (almost a midget) from 1 to 10 being 10 beautiful I am at 0😂😂😂😂minus 1
It`s an advantage to be different , I mean hispanic or your thick accent, You have to start and work hard as Jerry says .
I just watch some of your videos, your good 👍
Carol Inturias yes!!! Thanks💐
Great advice.
As an aspiring comedian who is under 21, it's really hard for me to do comedy because there are about 3 under-21 clubs in the entire United States, 2 of them are in Texas and 1 of them is on fire at all times.
I am finishing a book- I want to get it copywrited and published. However- how do I pitch it to Hollywood? Thank you.
I started at 40, I'm currently 46 and just started on Community radio
8:29 I’m going to go with positivity, but hearing comedians talking trash about other comedians they don’t like is a guilty pleasure. :-)
Im addicted to your videos and cigarettes.
IMO, Carlin was a stand up philosopher. Like Mel Brooks, in his BEAUTIFUL "History of the World Part 1"
Take me to funky town baby!
I think age has to do with your confidence if you have confidence and you believe in yourself you still can do and learn lots of things🥰 eg, COMEDY😅
I’m 21 and I’m looking too learn comedy hopefully I’m not too late
I don't think Dane cook is that funny either But I do enjoy his comedic roles in movies. I feel he's great in that type of role. Great videos, keep'em coming.
One of the funniest game shows I've found recently is Would I Lie To You. Look for it on CZcams.
Started 2018 , im 31
Saw this video title and thought you were going to tell us we have to tear up all our Boomer jokes.
I like how you sit there and say Dane cook is no good, and less than a minute later you say that people who hate on comedians have security issues. Define irony
streaming services are pushing the networks aside
You also don't need people to pay you directly.
Advertisements may want the 18-34 year old males. And the media network sells to those advertisers ad spots.
2:24 Wow, you are old. Two lines on the dollar sign. ;)
I keed! I keed! I'm old, too. lol.
The brand loyalty argument makes sense.
But if you think about it, who are the media outlets that would be putting on the comedians?
Are 18-34 year olds, or people in general brand loyalty to the media outlets in this day and age? Hardly. Anything you see on public transportation, even cable, will make it onto CZcams.
I don't think media outlets capture much brand loyalty. If Carlin or game of thrones or sex and the city switched networks, just about 100% of their watchers would move to the other media outlet imo. (Ok maybe 90%).
If any brand loyalty was built, it would be for the comedian themselves. I'm not so sure media outlets would be so heavily invested into that, unless they signed some exclusivity agreement or major production agreement with that comedian for many years.
OMG!!!! i had no idea jon stewart was that old when he retired! 😯
luv ur show, i'm learning a lot! 🤔
I thought he was older. Pushing 60
I was almost too afraid to watch this because I'm old.
if you can draw people, on stage or in the studio, you will do well
WOW❗🙏💎 @JerryCorley I don't care what Pete Davidson says about you, your all riight.🙃
18 to 34 males look up to older males.
Foster Brooks?
George Carlin died in 1976? Damn!.... So all those movies he did 80's into the 2000's were him as a damn ghost! 😱👻 Lol. I have been thinking about getting into Stand-up, but I'm 34....
Sorry, but you're all skewed on this.
"In the demo" varies according to the programming.
Some programs and channels have a very narrow demo while others are broader.
It also depends on the level of sophistication in the humor. Is it "college-level" or is it for more "mature" audiences?
Some acts work well on college campi while others are lounge acts in Las Vegas.
Right now humor is very restricted at university venues. Jerry Seinfeld goes off his nut talking about this. Why perform in front of an audience that's primed to be offended rather than laugh?
And of course all the good comedians are dead. Just like actors and musicians. Gone. All of them.
Thank you.
I find that this heuristic holds true:
Belief in the social justice "isms" generally correlates to ignorance, stupidity, and/or unwillingness to take on responsibility
So am I to old start I'm 43 ?
I'm 48 and did my first 2 standups performance in March and they went we, then carona lock down happened, i wanted to cry 😢
im 27 and JUST getting started...too late?
27 is not bad at all. That’s when I got started.
Me too!! 27 and just getting started!
@@JerryCorley Is age 15 too early to start on my comedic writing ability?
Nothing is late bro
I am 20 Wanted to start now thank God wish me luck guys
Jerry, why poke fun at a GISM?
Jefferey Tambor? This video didn't age well.
Is ageism something new in comedy?
