Boat Haul Out & Barnacle Hull Inspection After End of Boating Season

  • Wait 'til you see the guy's boat next to us in the boat yard! This was an unusually BAD year for barnacles where we boat on the Chesapeake Bay. Even after painting the boat bottom in the spring, running the boat regularly and doing a mid-season scraping... our boat's hull & running gear still had quite a few more barnacles than normal... but nothing like the guy's boat next to us in the boatyard. YIKES. Captain Brian takes a trip to the boat to check it out after we got hauled out. And to throw another tarp on our boat because our marina is very behind in shrink wrapping ;(
Our season is over, but we'll be editing a lot of footage this winter & will keep the videos coming.

    ABOUT MY BOAT LIFE CHANNEL
If you love the boat life, then My Boat Life is the channel for you!
My Boat Life is a recreational boating lifestyle channel where we share a little bit of our boat life. We like to focus on family boating & boating with kids (you'll see our boat girls quite a bit) along with some boating know-how and best practices for recreational boating and gear. We are not liveaboards or vloggers - just your average weekend boaters making the most out of each season on the water. We also work in the marine industry so you'll see off-season boat show highlights and other new trends in boating. See more on our boating lifestyle sites MyBoatLife.com and BoaterKids.com.

Bay Poet was pretty clean. I did not find many barnacles at all. I may have popped off 4 or 5. I did prep the running gear last week.

I was down at Skipjack yesterday checking out the shrink wrap job AND the barnacles😮 Hull was clean but running gear was encrusted except where I scrape over at $1.98

Glad to hear your boat wasn’t too bad (or the boat that we showed in the video lol!) yeah there’s definitely gonna be a lot of extra cleaning in the spring. Lot more boats wrapped I hope?

Thanks for sharing this information. Thankfully, I did not have many as well as I also boat in the upper Chesapeake. Do you put any type of antifouling paint or product on your running gear as your running gear looked better than mine at the end of this season. Thanks.

Thanks for watching! We did not put anything on our running gear but we did do some scraping in the water mid season when we realized barnacles were getting bad. Running it quite a bit helped too. We’re considering putting some on in the spring after this year but this year really was an unusually bad barnacle year for upper bay. We haven’t seen it this bad in years- just got a dry early season weather pattern that caused it.
