  • Heading for a haul out at North Fort Myers boat graveyard at Safe Harbor’s boat graveyard Port Phoenix.
    We’re hoping to get some work done to our hurricane Ian damaged boat but some pretty bad salvage wrecks surround us in the boatyard. We do our initial survey of the hull since after the storm and get her ready for fiberglass repairs.

    Our last boat was a Meridian 37. While we loved our many years of boating, I do not miss issues like these? We would go into panic mode every hurricane season. Have to drop what we were doing at work and drive 2 hours to the marina to prep and secure the boat for hurricanes, then get the outrageous bills for repairs and haul out fees etc etc. I don't miss that part of boating at all. Marina owners in general are A Holes and know they have you over a barrel to charge unreal pricing from slip fees to repairs and maintenance. AND if your boat damages THEIR dock during a hurricane, they send YOU their dock repair bill. Now we have a 40 foot Class A Motorcoach that stays parked in our driveway with all time power/water and I can pull out and go anywhere last minute. Love the water, don't miss the crap that goes on with boating.

    It breaks my heart to see so many boats damaged. You are lucky if the facility has enough good people to do the repairs. Here on Lake Erie there is a shortage of marine technicians and fiberglass workers. Hope the repairs go well.

That beautiful blue hulled boat @10:45 was a heart breaker for that owner. Will you put in a claim for insurance coverage on the work; have you spoken to an adjuster yet. • @billnicholson1220
      @billnicholson1220 Před rokem +1

      @@timothyboone5003 Tim, I’m sure that your comment was addressed to me. In the video, I did not hear a bow thruster, nor did I see the rush of water it makes. The reason I asked is “crabbing” takes practice, but is very useful. My apologies, I just caught the first few minutes of Captain Tom’s video. I did watch it all the way through and even a person like me, that makes you scratch your head, spotted the bow and stern thruster. I suppose my question should have been do your thrusters work?

    • @timothyboone5003
      @timothyboone5003 Před rokem

      Bill Nicholson
      2:53 in the video you can hear the bow thruster and see the rush of water out the starboard bow. The Stern thruster is shown distinctively later on and commented about.
      In the mariner world it’s not called crabbing by most. It’s usually referred to as walking the boat. It’s much easily preformed on vessels that have flanking rudders.

    • @billnicholson1220
      @billnicholson1220 Před rokem

      Tim, once again I stand corrected. My initial comment to Captain Tom was simply friendly conversation, not unlike the conversations I’ve had with him in person. Thank you for your corrections. Had I known my post would be critiqued, I would have referred to the latest edition of Chapman. I do apologize for using colloquial terminology to describe “walking the boat.” I’m sure you are an authority on most things, if not ( fill in the blank.)
