    To me John Prine is one of a kind .
    One of the best song writers to walk this earth . Not much of a country music person . John Prine and Blaze Foley are pretty much it for me. 2 of the best both gone . The world will never replace thier talents .

      It's actually a nervous response when people dont know how to respond.
      Or alot of folk songs get started with artists giving a little back story to the song and a good bit of them are funny also a fair amount aren't true also this was a new song and they most likely didn't think it was a true life event.
      But man can this guy paint a picture with his words. I saw him many times and sadly it wasn't enough. Thankfully modern technology will hopefully keep him around for many years and ears

    I could listen all day to John Prine and wonder why he isn’t right up there with Bob Dylan? I’m 75, but had never heard of him until we lost him to Covid.

      Dylan said Mr Prine was a better composer than he was..Roger Waters also considers him one of the greatest songwriters..is amazing what an ex-mailman can produce; truly one of kind bird...so painful to know he is gone....

    Amazing that the basis for the song was an event that happened when he was 14. I wonder if he wrote the song then or years later. Either way it shows what a great songwriter he is, since he paints pictures or sings a film of real events in life.

    I have been a John fan since about 1975, wore this album out! Like most of his dedicated following, spent many hours re-visiting his catalogue around the time of his passing and missed this sad poignant tune. Have not heard it for years. Thank you for posting, gonna play it again 💙

    So far I could research: The blond was his bass player and (later) wife RACHEL PEER. In the other song "Speed Of The Sound Of Loneliness" Rachel, in a surprising 'make over', has a much more sexy appearance !

    With JP it’s like free association. But not with words. With themes.
    There’s like three ideas in this song and I’m not sure they all connect but it doesn’t matter. It just works on an unconscious level. Sort of like Jackson Pollack. Or Jack Kerouac.

    Is that long time Eagles guitarist Don Felder playing acoustic in Prine's back-up band? On the left hand side of the stage, the guy with the long, blondish.hair and beard. I read Felder's fine biography Heaven and Hell - My Life With The Eagles. I'm trying to think if he mentioned playing for Prine..... he may have.

      Glen Parker - I have read Don Felder’s book, still have it, and find no mention of John Prine in the index. Possible I suppose as Felder joined Eagles in 74 so a couple years there between Prine’s breakout in 71 and Eagles.
