    Street Chrome I think is supposed to simulate the "worn" look of an aged heavily used lighter though it has just rolled out of the assembly line.

    Thank you for this video. I just recently acquired a "satin" zippo and was unsure of what is was. It felt and looked like it was sandblasted but still smooth. I knew it wasn't brushed or street because I have these already and of course it wasn't polished. Your video set me straight.

    @hippie2228 My next Zippo video is actually going to be on Black Ice when I get around to it. :) Just keep this in mind: If you go to a site like Amazon.com and look at a stock photo of a Black Ice Zippo, that black is MUCH darker than the actual color of the Zippo. A lot of people complain about that. Black ice is basically chrome with a slight haze of gray. If for a regular or a 1941 replica, that is up to you. I have a video on all the replicas. :)

    I think satin looks the best but then again it would be better to see them all in real life.

  • @Speedogg138
    @Speedogg138  Před 13 lety

    @47guss They are made of solid Brass. They are stamped from sheets of it. The chemicals they go through clean them and such, but they all start out brass and are either left that way or are electro-plated in chrome.

  • @Speedogg138
    @Speedogg138  Před 13 lety

    @UKairsoft94 You will get micro-scratches on the hi-polish ones. The Street chrome was specifically designed to mask scratches, the satin would be second best in that regard, the brushed would hide scratches as well, but the hi-polish WILL get micro-scratches. The scratches add character to me, my EDC Zippo is a Hi-polish chrome 1937 replica.

    @hippie2228 Yeah, what you might not know is that isn't my first Zippo return. So I can tell you: Yes, you always get the original back (sometimes fixed as well), and they always give you a pack of 2 extra flints and they always give you some promotional material and usually a thank you letter. I've also been to the repair clinic in person and that was a really cool experience. But that is another matter. :D

      Hi, with your Zippo Satin Chrome, is it a Non - Polished Chrome or more of a Sprayed on Silver Coating, like the coating they used for Satin Red, Satin Blue ? please reply

  • @Speedogg138
    @Speedogg138  Před 13 lety

    @LOLitsJono Well all the plain finishes are durable. It takes a LOT to wear them off. If you want less scratches get satin or street chrome, or even brushed chrome or brass as you mentioned. The brass ones are nice and it is literally impossible for that finish to come off because it isn't a finish, all Zippos are brass underneath.

  • @Speedogg138
    @Speedogg138  Před 13 lety

    @47guss Unless you have solid gold (Which run about $8k MSRP) then all Zippos are made out of brass. The chrome color is later added on through plating. Some older Zippos were made out of steel (WWII ones), but obviously that isn't goldish now is it. :)

  • @Speedogg138
    @Speedogg138  Před 13 lety

    @hippie2228 A high polish finish is a high polish finish. Be it brass, chrome, black ice, sterling silver, etc. You will see every finger print. You are suggested to write Zippo a note with every repair, I always do. You get a new insert anyway so that will fix any sparking problems. They will typically fix it to like new condition without you explaining it.

    @Speedogg138 alright man thanks so much for the help your the only person to ever help me haha im subbing to you for that! but still one question you seem to avoid about the armor zippos are they worth it are they as easy to do tricks with or what?

  • @Speedogg138
    @Speedogg138  Před 14 lety

    @imphranki I think Satin is one of my favorites behind High Polish.

  • @Speedogg138
    @Speedogg138  Před 13 lety

    @hippie2228 Sorry, that was a simple "I forgot". About the armor: I have 2. One is VERY nice and one is good. The thing about them is that is that I think people buy them for the wrong reasons. They are 1.5 times as thick, so that adds weight, BUT: The hinge is no thicker. Tricksters often wonder about that. It is no more scratch resistant. People worried about looks often wonder about that. I think armor's best use is for special editions to give them that extra something special.

    what finish was used on the vietnam zippos?

  • @Cnbecker9
    @Cnbecker9 Před 12 lety

    Do they make a machined finish (with or without defined brush strokes) for any of them?

  • @Speedogg138
    @Speedogg138  Před 13 lety

    @hippie2228 What kind of tweaks do you want done? I guarantee they will fix it (check out my videos on that if you haven't), but what specifically would you want them to do? Also, I don't personally care about finger prints, but if you do just know that a high-polished chrome one will show every single print.

  • @hippie2228
    @hippie2228 Před 13 lety

    @Speedogg138 alright thanks and just a few more questions do they leave you with you original insert as well as the new one, i saw they did on your video but i didnt know if they always did and also do they always give you extra flints?

    @Speedogg138 well i want the hinge fixed and there are some little things i didnt know if they would catch like the insert not fitting properly every time i close it it comes out a bit i think it might be the cam spring is too tight but ya and the wheel is harder than usuall to spark. and what do you know about high pollished BRASS is it the same as the high pollished chrome with fingerprints or what. and are armor zippos worth it?

  • @hippie2228

    I have a zippo that had a silver chrome finish. When I cleaned it, the silver disappeared and not it has a gold like finish? Any clue why? I only used water on a wash cloth to clean it.

  • @47guss
    @47guss Před 13 lety

    @Speedogg138 if a zippo is a brass color does it mean that it is plain brass or has it been treated through all the chemicals and dyed back to the brass color?

  • @Kylork
    @Kylork Před 12 lety

    I know that they use a chromium finish on all "chrome" Zippo lighters.
    So what material do they use on the outside of the "Black Ice" finish? Is it like chromium with a bit of graphite mixed in? I can't find the answer anywhere online.

    @ZAPTAPPER1 I had never heard of that before you mentioned it, but that is because it is an old finish. From the pictures I saw, it looks like satin chrome.

    I just got a gold dust Zippo. Does that mean it is a street finished brass or is it gold plated/flaked because I have heard both

  • @47guss
    @47guss Před 13 lety

    hey i have a zippo that is like a goldish brass color... it doesnt have any cleaning instructions with it but just because its a brass/gold color does it automatically make it made of brass? sounds like a dumb question but please answer

  • @Speedogg138
    @Speedogg138  Před 13 lety

    @MandDproductions11 Satin chrome with fingerprints!? Is that even possible O_o? Are you sure you mean Satin and not high-polish or something? Either way, use a microfiber cloth (like what they use for eyeglasses).
