    I'm really loving mine since I got it. Have it set up with a split Retrobat setup, where a smaller ssd holds my important games, and then a bigger drive when home for the rest of the games.

    • @AishTalksTech

      I love this little thing, I have it set up next to my living room tv. For big games I stream them from my PC so I can play them in 4k on a big screen, and I also stream from it to my steamdeck for things like PS3.

      hey i just discovered RetroBat and Batocera Linux can share the exact same NTFS partition with a bunch of symlinks to make sure a few higher end systems share save files when u reboot. The flexibility is really great and you can’t beat the how full featured the distro is on the Linux side of the fence!

      It's seriously one of the best devices I've gotten to play/work with. Like I said in the video it's not a full size rig, but for something so small it's amazing how much it can do.

    I am really really tempted toget a mini PC since my current one is really old and I'mgoing to be moving often pretty soon.
    How reliable is it to use something like this for extended periods of time? (8-12 horus per day)

    • @AishTalksTech
      @AishTalksTech  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Ive been using it for hours playing demanding games with no issues, it does feel warm but the actual temperatures stay consistent so I wouldn't worry about that.
      As for the long term I've only had it for a few weeks so I can't comment on how it will hold up a few years down the road, but Minusforum makes solid devices.

    thank you so much for benchmarking next to a Z1X! I tried the Ally for 2 weeks and now have a Legion Go - I’m seriously thinking of exchanging it for this instead - I think I’ve realized I want more of a decent gaming rig I can dock wherever I go than the portable handheld form factor. I’m coming from hobbling by on a 2015MBP (which I am amazed how far it got!) so my expectations aren’t sky high :)
    @6:33 it’s awesome u tested powering it with a power bank - what kind of power bank is it and what capacity? did you get a chance to get a sense of how long u could power the EM790 for?
    I’ve been also debating getting a Beelink SER8 for sheer upgradability (64GB, 8TB NVMe, WiFi) but Im leaning into the EM780 to maximize portability (but also concerned if it will date too quickly)

    • @AishTalksTech
      @AishTalksTech  Před 19 dny +1

      I'm glad the video was helpful! 😁
      I can't remember exactly how much battery I got but it was a couple hours, the power bank I'm was using is the shargeek storm 2 slim.
      In a few days I'm going to be posting an ally X review and bench marking it against this and the ALLY, that one has USB 4 just like them em780 so it might be a good fit for you.

      @udance4ever Před 16 dny

      @@AishTalksTech I was all set to get an EM780 (Ally X is out of my budget!) & someone is working me to get a 16GB/1TB M1 mini for the same price. not as portable but not exactly big either - argh!

    • @AishTalksTech
      @AishTalksTech  Před 14 dny +1

      Well the em780 got a price drop to around 500ish for the 32/1tb model ( shameless plus there's a link in the description 😂)and I'd say that's a solid deal, but depending on what kind of work you want to do, and if you like the apple ecosystem the M1 is hard to beat.
      If you're looking to game windows is the way to go but if it's mostly productivity, video and photo editing the M1 is solid and certain programs tend to be better optimized for that chip. Looking at benchmarks the 7840u outperforms the M1 in synthetic benchmarks but I would recommend looking at exact workloads to see what kind of real world performance you can expect.
      I just posted an egpu video featuring the em780 and I ran it through multiple benchmarks including Davinci resolve, blender, Photoshop ,AAA games, etc. Unfortunately I don't use apple products outside of my ipad so I don't have benchmarks for the M1 but I'm sure you can find them online and those numbers might help you make a decision 😁

    Pretty sweet PC, man! It's a great small pc for anyone in a dorm or small space like for vanlife where power and space is at a premium, this is great. Gaming aside, if we don't mind a few external hard drives, there isn't really much obvious downsides to this.
    Great review, Aish!

    The video makes no mention of the Ethernet port. Most mini PC's nowadays come with 2.5Gbps Ethernet. What is the speed of the Ethernet port on the included dongle? The website makes no mention of it. Thanks.

    • @AishTalksTech
      @AishTalksTech  Před 29 dny +2

      Unfortunately I didn't test that but I'll make sure to correct that in future videos.
      From what I understand it comes with a RJ45 LAN adapter that supports speeds up to 1000mbps.

    I would recommend Extreme Caution with these mini PCS Minisforum and other brands have been shown to ship PCS with malware

    • @AishTalksTech
      @AishTalksTech  Před 3 měsíci +3

      Malware has never been an issue with Minusforum, I'm not saying it's impossible but so far I haven't seen a single case of this being reported.
      I believe the issue was with a batch of ace magician mini PCs (different companies) but they've made some changes since that happened, it's a little unfare to group all companies into one group because of one companies shortcomings. Still I would encourage anyone with that concert to just do a fresh install of windows to be safe.
      Oh and thanks for bringing that up, I really should have addressed that in the video, but now I won't forget next time.

    GTFO $799 😂 set to fail fast at that price and no these specs aren't anything major, you want good emulation get a Odin 2 or shield TV and an external or internal SD card/ SSD and you are Good to go

    • @AishTalksTech
      @AishTalksTech  Před 3 měsíci

      This isn’t something I would ever recommend for just emulation, or even for someone just looking for a gaming PC, It’s a niche product that does have a market, but it’s definitely not the everyday user and I don’t think the everyday user was minisforums target any way. But at the same time I would never compare and Odin 2 or any android box with what this can do, its just 2 different products that have some overlap, I’m definitely not going to be editing a video or writing a paper on an Odin 2.
      I do agree on the price being a little high but once you look at other devices with the same specs it’s not that crazy.

    • @JAYJAY1787
      @JAYJAY1787 Před 3 měsíci

      @@AishTalksTech Yeah but the price is insane for a non name brand unit , the Odin 2 I can connect to HDMI and do some emulation ofc , right now I have a 4k 32 inch full android StandByMe screen with built in battery coming , it has HDMI but it's a android device itself that I can connect an HDMI device or use remote software and connect to a gaming PC for working on the go , and install games when I want to have that side of fun , you should definitely check them out there Awesome and not limited like the lg StandByMe, being it has HDMI we can connect a legit mini PC stick on the back of the screen with a mount and do all this on the go!

    • @AishTalksTech
      @AishTalksTech  Před 3 měsíci

      well - you can now get one for $499 for the 32GB/512GB and $529 for the 32GB/1TB model (both without Windoze licenses) - at this price, I’m seriously thinking about returning Legion Go - i think this form factor complements my iPadPro much better (and have a HDMI capture card on the way so the iPadPro can be a simple monitor for simple tasks (not gaming due to input lag))
