- A jigsaw is a very useful tool as it can be used to cut out items that you simply cannot cut using any other type of saw. In this video we take a look at some blades and also do a couple of cuts in timber, 10mm thick acrylic and also 10mm thick aluminium. Brought to you by www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/for...

This was very helpful! Thank you, I was making some shelves for my shed from pallet wood. All I had was a cheap handsaw, until I found an old jigsaw in the house kicking about. I can start some more projects now.
You are welcome.
Thanks for the comment ;-)
Thank you for your tutorials on how to use a Jigsaw, I've used a Jigsaw for years but I got some really good tips from you that I will incorporate next time I cut a rectangle etc. 👍
You are welcome.
Thanks for the comment ;-)
Thank you for showing how to switch the blade on this model! I've borrowed from a friend, and could not figure out how to tighten the blade, you saved me from so much frustration.
You are welcome.
Thanks for the comment ;-)
Didnt know that about the down cutting blades another excellent video.
Very detailed and precise. When notching out I tend to drill a couple of 10mm hols in each corner so I don't need to do the extra cut when your on the job every second counts! 😀
Zed Man
Absolutely.
Thanks for the comment
You are the first video that mentioned curved cuts and actually demonstrated how to do it.
Thanks for the comment
Excellent tutorial video! You always explain things really clearly, which gives me great confidence with my DIY projects. I would recommend anyone buying power tools to check out your videos. Thank you very much!
Thanks Henry ;-)
Great video as always mate, thanks. I just got my first proper jigsaw today, and I chose the Evolution Rage 7-S corded 710W. I was impressed with their mitre saw so figured I'd stick with them.
It seems pretty good so far - heavy, but powerful and easy to use, and I like the laser line and the guide rail for straight cuts. I might add some Bosch blades too, though I'm sure the Evolution multi-purpose ones are pretty good too. I'm really glad you showed the "notch" method in this video, as that was precisely what I needed to do for my first ever jigsaw cut. I am really not sure I'd have figured out the curve method on my own, not immediately anyway. I'd probably would have started drilling holes trying to get the blade in to make the last horizontal cut :)
I'm glad you found the video useful ;-)
Evolution tools are normally good for the price, I hope you get years of use from it ;-)

Yes you can cut thin acrylic using a jigsaw but you have to go really slow. A circular saw is better, or scribe breaking is also easy on thinner acrylic (for straight lines)

Hy, could you advise please. I'm planning on making some garden signs out of timber I have left from planters I made. it's tanalised timber approx 20mm thick possibly less. what type of jig saw blade is best? I want to keep it as finer finish as possible but obviously more teeth per square inch blade will mean the blade struggles. there will be some intricate work as the bottom of the sign will have a saw edge shape. Any help greatly appreciated. Scott, Wirral.
I noticed that u could follow the line quickly and make the cut but u chose to go slowly, does ur speed affect the cut quality in curvy cuts, even if u follow the line u see? Thx great video
Thanks for the vid Ultimate Handyman. I picked up the exact same jigsaw today from a charity shop and couldn't for the life of me work out how to release the blade. :)
You are welcome

im so happy that i found your channel sir..thanks for the video.
Thanks for the comment ;-)
sir is this product how much if i order...or we can buy directly to the hardware store thanks again..
It is not cheap I'm afraid. My model is now discontinued but this is a similar model-

You can of course buy these from any Dewalt dealer also
thankyou sir
You are welcome ;-)
Thanks for the vid I sort of given up on my jigsaw I can never get a good cut, I find myself using my plunge saw for straights and chop for angles and multi tool for cutting bits out. but I will always need the jig for curve cutting, don't forget you can always clamp a straight edge and use that as a guide rail.

No problem I really enjoy the videos.
great demo thanks
Another great video mate been thinking of buying a jigsaw and was just going to buy a cheap one think I will have to get a proper one
Graham Cummings
Thanks, it's worth spending the extra on a decent one ;-)

Good informative video as usual.
I came across your video while looking for ideas for a jigsaw table.
Ideally I wanted a bandsaw but I’m really tight on space in my garage so a “sort of” jigsaw table will do the trick for now.
My plan is to attach the jigsaw on a custom made base plate and fix it on a piece of plywood. Then it will be attached on my work mate. Therefore when not in use I can fold it down and hang it on the wall where my folding work mate is currently right now.
As I know you are good in the metal work field, do you think that a 5 or 6mm alluminium plate is strong enough to attach a jigsaw into it? I’m planning to make two aluminium base plates, one for my jigsaw and another for my Dewalt router. I will make them both of the same size in order to fit in the same cavity that I will make on the plywood.
5mm or 6mm thick aluminium should be fine for such a job. Good luck with the project ;-)

Ultimate Handyman Thanks for the advice. Have a nice Christmas.
Hey is it advisable to use orbital settings on 45 bevel cuts? It gives me huge vibrations but it cuts really quick, not sure if it is a good practice.
No, I would not use orbital action on bevel cuts as it will be difficult to get a straight cut ;-)
I See, how about cutting MDF, I got Bosch HCS speed cut blade, but I heard the glue content in MDF dulls the blade really quick.
Is dat true. If so, what blade you recommend for cutting MDF. Thanks
Anyone else blowing their screen when he was cutting the wood?
Can you do a video on all the things you can do with an oscillating multitool?
FoodOnCrack
I'll add it to my list ;-)
It does very niche tasks, hence no video :) for 2 years. I have a multi tool and I’m looking to a buy a jigsaw when I replace my carpet floor with wood laminate.
What blade should I use for cutting thin extruded aluminum?
Stephanie Quispe
Any metal cutting blade will work, although you can buy a specific blade for aluminium such as the Dewalt DT2144
Thank you!
Stephanie Quispe
You are welcome ;-)
Very good handy video for some people who are not sure how to use a jigsaw.
Thanks *****
I struggled at first but I got told to let the saw do the work. Putting too pressure into it is going to damage the blade teeth.
Thanks for the comment ;-)
Np.
Would you use this for thin sheet metal or something else?
Jigsaws are not good on thin metal, unless you get a really fine tooth blade (the more TPI the better). If you do use the jigsaw, it's often better to use a sacrificial piece of wood underneath ;-)
This dewalt jigsaw is really quiet. Did you decrease the mic volume?
Yes, I often do that when filming power tools or else it's very annoying for the watcher.
Thanks for the comment
if you have a cheap one that is powerful with a good blade is that a problem? I never used a dedicated one, rather a "multi tool" in the form of black and Decker Multievo drill system (look it up). with the supplied blades the cuts are smooth and fast but without careful movement dont cut straight...
+Anas Malas
It depends what you are doing. I once went to help a mate with a fence and he only had a cheap jigsaw, trying to rip cut just one board took about ten minutes and was really hard work. A cheap jigsaw and cheap blade can be okay for some small jobs.
***** now here is the thing, the drill cost me about 150$ that includes the 18v battery, the motor, and the regular drill gearbox and Chuck. But then this gearbox and Chuck is removed and a jigsaw attachment made up of tge jigsaw gears and plate could be inserted which costs 30$ so I am not really sure if it is classified as cheap but it is certainly powerful
+Anas Malas
I guess that is cheap for a cordless version, as many professional version with the charger and battery would be 3 times the cost of that- then you would have to buy the drill as well.
Hello,i have a jigsaw and the blade clamping system is broken (the clamping sistem has 2 screw , and 1 of them broke the thread) what can i do ?
If you can get the broken screw out you can fit a new screw?
I agree with you I first bought a cheap make but I soon upgraded to a decent one.
John Ba
I was once at a friends house and didn't have my jigsaw with me, I tried cutting a straight line in a piece of timber using his and it took me ages and looked like I had cut it with my teeth LOL.
Thanks for the comment
Very nivel video!!
Thanks for the comment
good
How can I stop the blade from cutting at an angle when cutting a straight line? I use Bosch blades, and do my best not to but any sideways pressure. Cheers
+Mo Awkati
What make is the jigsaw?
Some cheaper jigsaws are terrible for cutting straight!
Its a Bosch one
+Mo Awkati
I used to have a Bosch jigsaw and it was ok to be honest. Is the guide wheel behind the blade in good condition?
+Ultimate Handyman It must be me. Its virtually new. I'll practice more. Thank you for taking the time to answer me. Much appreciated
+Mo Awkati
You are welcome.
Thanks for the comments
alguien me podria auxiliar en decirme como hacerle
his accent is everything... :-)
Thanks ;-)
Ultimate Handyman use a fence on it and screw it down that makes straight line
Excellent video for a noob like me ❤
hello sir should I buy a jigsaw or a bandsaw
TECH MALAYSIA a meloon saw is better
How is the battery life on that 18v jigsaw?
Soccerdude023
It's great on most materials. I have fitted laminate flooring in full rooms from one charge, but on thicker stuff like kitchen worktops it looses it's charge much quicker and if I remember rightly it takes two batteries to make a sink cutout in a kitchen worktop but that is understandable due to the thickness of the material.
Thanks for the comment
Soccerdude023 I have the latest DeWalt 18v Cordless jigsaw, as well as the rest of the tools, and battery life is very good. My biggest concern is it appears the 18v is being phased out for the 20v - not sure - I plan on keeping these a while.
Thank you.
Thanks for the comment 👍
hi would it cut natural root slate.
You can get special masonry cutting blades but they are not brilliant.
If you need to cut roofing slate you can get a special machine called a slate guillotine, or you can use an angle grinder and diamond disc.
hi yes i have the guillitine but it leaves a bad edge and i need round gut to make clocks.
A diamond core drill will cut it, especially if you make a jog for it and use a pillar drill erc.
czcams.com/video/P0Pj9zzPN0s/video.html
Your video is excellent, I have a DeWalt DW321 jigsaw and there is no video of its operation, maybe you can give me information about said jigsaw... thanks
It should be similar to the video, but yours is mains powered 👍
hard to understand because of the accent XD but i got your point :) ty for this!
Thanks for the comment
Wouldn't it be helpful if the jigsaw threw out a laser line in front of it to help you keep it lined up especially at the start of a cut? If that has not been done before I hereby claim the patent :-)
Peter AndCat
No LOL, Lasers on saws are just a gimmick. You need to watch the exact point where the blade is cutting. I do have a chop saw with a laser but never use it as I always align the cut mark with the blade. A light near the blade might be a good idea though then you can see the blade in dark conditions ;-)
Quick get the patent in LOL
Thanks for the comment ;-)

A mate of mine cut into a steel toolbox that was 4mm thick when he was cutting planks on top of it with a circular saw ;-)
