    Thanks for your informative video. Would you consider adding the Toja sun shade top cover to a pergola design that is similar in construction style to the white one at the beginning of this video? I've noticed that the Toja sun shade seems to be attached by screw-in brackets along the perimeter, I think I can swing that with my current pergola. My hesitation is that I won't be using the Toja corner bracket posts. In your experience, can this Toja sun shade be affixed in the corners of any pergola using the hardware that the sun shade comes with? Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Any suggestions on securing this to an existing paver patio?

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  Před 6 lety +2

      Do not attempt to secure a pergola to pavers; they will not hold it down in the wind.
      The best way to install any pergola on a paver patio would be to pull up some pavers and sink the legs into the ground, like we did in my Jersey Shore Pergola video (czcams.com/video/QH6yUi5v5IU/video.html), then cut the pavers to reinstall around the posts.
      Alternatively, pull up some pavers under each leg and pour concrete footings level to the surface. Then you could bolt the pergola leg brackets to the concrete.

      The sail shades are fine for normal thunderstorms but take them off before any tropical storm or hurricane. The buckles make that easy.

  • @1RungAtATime
    @1RungAtATime Před 6 lety +29

    It's a really cool system, but pricey. $650 for their basic 8x8 pergola kit. Doesn't include the wood posts. Or a Canadian to deliver and install it. Just four brace brackets, four corner brackets, and the wind sail. You can make a similar pergola with Simpson strong-tie bases at $17 each, 4 corner brackets for deer blind platforms for about $120, and a sail shade for about $30 on Amazon.

      Your argument is like saying a Chromebook is cheaper than a Mac. Sure, you can hack a pergola together or build one from scratch for less. This product fits a good niche for people who want quick and easy. Based on the way it’s been selling, I’d say people see value in this product.

    • @1RungAtATime
      @1RungAtATime Před 6 lety +11

    • @genghis_connie
      @genghis_connie Před 4 lety +1

      The pricing is criminal! It's a shame.
      I priced out a basic 12x12 pergola minimalist design including pressure-treated wood (4x4 posts), brackets and base covers with.2x6 added side support lumber and flat top slats for $420. Add screws and a UV shade, that's $80 more. I own a drill.
      I just don't have a truck or help.
      Why are they charging so much? Do you foresee their prices changing fir the average consumer?

    • @genghis_connie
