Music video by The Human League performing Love Action. (C) 2016 BBC - Hudba
Was so happy to have been a teenager in the 1980s
There was nobody like the human league in these days and I have loved them ever since then.
The keyboards on this are insane. The layers and everything it’s just genius.
Yeah early synth cool sounds ❤
I could watch Joanne and Suzanne’s dancing to this video all week...
Proper dance round yer handbag moves in there m and s frocs haha..I would have been loads better 😃
Brunette fan here 😍😍
Me too. Those honkers bobbing up and down are hypnotizing.
Yep. No choreographed/ dance school shit.
better order a new multipack of socks then 🤣
The synth sound, the hair, the make-up, the clothes, the dancing. BRING BACK THE 80s!
Best synt band that ever came out ever.never heard anything as good as them .
They are like the marilyn monroe of bands
100%
Can't bring them back. But enjoy it's music.
Can't bring them back. But enjoy the music.
You said it all
Who's listening in 2024
Yo
Keep in mind this was in 1981 and sounds more modern than anything today.
Totally. Gaga is rubbish.
80s music wipes the floor with everything since!
If you're talking chart music, definitely. I blame Simon Cowell.
If it wasnt for phil it wouldnt think he was spawned from a musical note
@@safeashouses211 why? None of that stuff had any longevity or serious sales, apart from the boy band, and that sort of thing as been around for decades.
In 1981, this sounded like music from another planet.
Agreed, 1981 was not quite ready for this stuff lol including me 🤫🤫🤫
Hey guys, what about his style? How did you guys receive his style, specially the hair? I was born in 80 and I'm a lover of the 80's and 90's :)
Pure simple music from the fantastic 80s !
I would argue that #GaryNuman got there first..
Sound espacial
The two beautiful girls really gave them an edge over their contemporaries. And they had tons of great songs. As big as they were, they should have been even bigger.
From the wikipedia page:
"""
They [the band] eventually came to the Crazy Daisy Nightclub on High Street, where Oakey spotted two girls dancing together on the dance floor, Susan Ann Sulley and Joanne Catherall. They were both 17-year-old students on a night out and neither had any experience singing or dancing professionally. With no preamble, Oakey asked both girls to join the tour as dancers and incidental vocalists.
"""
And I really like the fact that they took on bigger and bigger roles in the band as time went on.
thats what we call dance
Absolutely! They should have been more of a household name than what they were. I remember in the 90s when they released tell me when and people loving it and wondering who this band the human league were. Then finding out that they were a Yorkshire band that were pretty big in the 80s and had already had two US number ones. Should have been known already.
Have a word with yourself mate, I went to school with Suzanne Sully in the late 60's - early 70's at Charnock Hall infants & juniors. She then left to go to Ashleigh Secondary school instead of Thornbridge. I myself moved to Dronfield in '73. Suzanne always fancied herself then.
Remember me from Charnock Suzanne?
Nearly 40 years old and still sounds better more fresh and innovative then anything that the corporations have put out it the last 10 years
Now it is officially 40 years old.
I agree!!!!!
As someone who started producing synth music in the 80s and never stopped I must say that this is mainly the result of modern, computer-based production tools: they impose a particular workflow and thus discourage the way music was composed in the 80s.
If we all returned to composing music with a bare keyboard or guitar, or a band, music would still be as melodic as it was in the day.
@@scottmartin1973 that’s weird to think it’s 40 years old
Try the last 30 years.
Bloody brilliant song - the 80’s were cool..
They were, I was there in my teens dancing to this.
the power of 80's music is something fierce
SOUND………EXCELLENT
HAIR AND CLOTHES….EXCELLENT
ATTITUDE…..EXCELLENT
Sure wish the 80’s never left….At 65 I still play ALL of this diverse music when bands had TALENT and ORIGINALITY.Not some internet,X,or Twitter no talents….
If we haven't "given up" on style all of this can remain relevant (Chanel raw 2017) amirite?
Reminds me of summer 81, just left school, first holiday with friends, these guys and Duran, Spandau, Dépêche....happy days!
Yes the 80.s was a wonderful decade :-)
Muyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
But yet, the best days of the Mode were still to come...
Totals
@@mariadaugbjerg6141 it was the last great decade before life became virtual.
Their hips swaying to the keyboard beat mind-blowing !
Best of human league. The dancing is just refreshing. Time machine required
100% my man!!!👊😎
Hairdresser: haircut is £10
Phil: I only have £5
😁🤘😈
lol .I had almost the same haircut when i was 15 in 1980 .he,he :-D
lol!
came for the comments....not disappointed..! lol...
Well seeing as I refuse on principle to pay more than a fiver for a haircut I'd have had the same long hair back then.
I really love his hair, makeup, jacket, the girls dancing, that there’s three synth players, that he refers to himself in the third person, and that he sings that he lies a lot.
Absolutely hands down my favourite Human League song. Just infectious, irresistible to dance to. Stone cold all time classic.
Brilliant track BUT Sound of the Crowd is the best!!
@@anthonylaw5553 The Lebanon too 😎👍
i totally agree, cheers
BRILLIANT 🤩 Totally Agree Michael Singh👍👍 ….But do you know all the words? 🤔😁😉 I was a Goth/Punk .We all loved it. One of those RTDF, run to the dance floor , which got reduced to RDF, mad huh
@@fluffylynxpuss5043 As the years have gone by my recall is not what it used to be! Maybe something to do with all of the chemical experimentation that occurred in my youth.
Ahhh the 80s. Style, colour, fashion, music you name it. The 80s just seemed to have it all........
your kids must be freaks because of your taste
IKR 😣😣😣
You betcha batwing jumper friend!
Best decade ever
1980s was the best decade! No doubt!
I miss the 80 s 😢
@@lauraalt7863 Don't we all . We were forty plus younger
Brilliant
Yes indeed
Brilliant song, brilliant band, love their style, love the girls dancing, just doing their thing, whilst having a ball ! None of the silly robotic choreographed in synch dancing we see today.
Vibin
Saw Human League at avenham park Preston many years ago and at Butlins few years ago
I was only 14 years old when this came out it made my little life at that time ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Maybe 40 years but still a classic
One of the best examples of 80s electro-synth heaven. Human League were incomparable.
Depeche Mode
At the time I felt it was a bit too minimalistic, and I prefer analog synth sounds (with a pulse and a more textured tone - more overtones, like you'd hear from bands like Simple Minds, Ultravox or New Order, or Tangerine Dream of course) - but forty years later I can certainly see the elegance and sense of style, both musically and visually. Phil is not a great singer but he has just the right attitude! :)
Love the girls dance moves, like a Saturday night out in Sheffield in 82
But why the hell are they wearing granmas dresses??????
The young lady on the left is doing the thing. The young lady on the right? Ehhhh...
That,ll be Susan on the left
And Joe on the right
Trust me Susan on the left is still doing it ;)
Very Fuckable.............................................
You mean don't knowing how to dance is a style on its own ?
Fays Baroom you mean not knowing how to use the correct manner of speaking is a thing?
I had exactly the same hairstyle ( 100 % ) as Phil Oakey , just deep black , when i was 15 years old in1980 , and people asked me all the time , if the hairstyle didn't bother me , because i could only see with my right eye . 😊😄 But it didn't , and my bangs was always combed straight down over my left eye .😅 and i really liked/ like that hairstyle .😊
I could watch Joanne and Susan dance for hours. Love the dresses. This band had such a unique sound and look with them.
I wish radios would play this instead of "Don't You Want Me." Such a great song!
bassmanjoe Agreed, but one is grossly overplayed 😉
xm radio first wave does
Or The Lebanon.
Agreed far superior to dont you want me.
I heard Love action on 6 Music yesterday.
I really need to sleep but I am on a 80s kick and I can't stop clicking on the next one Help it's 2:30am.
germans1 yup
4:15 am buddy
same here - i repeat this tune since 3hours cause i discover every time new moves of phil
what was the one after this?
Oh i know that feeling to well .lol.
New Wave Masterpiece.
Saw them live at Sheffield City Hall in about 2006. Didn't really want to go but my mate was a huge fan and he didn't want to go alone. One of the best live shows I've ever seen. They were just superb. Still see Phil around town. Even in his sixties with no hair he still looks like a pop star. Nice guy by all accounts.
Ay up, Sheffs still got it!
This is incredible! If it weren't for CZcams, what would happen to all of this incredible music? So glad it's here for the newer generations to enjoy!!
It's up to us to share it
This is one of my 4 year old boys favourite songs ♥️
I still have it on Vinyl...
Oh great, I’m not only old but a hoarder.
YUMAN LEAGUE .ANNI 80. NELLA STORIA MUSICA .
@@fearsomebeard4290 Nothing wrong with hoarding TREASURE mate
Banging tune X
So many performers were pioners, not only with the looks and sound, but being individual. Lots think it's now thing, but they are so wrong. The 80's was the best era for music, which shows as so many artists are still performing and touring and so popular.
The 80's was the best time to be a teenager, the tunes were so good 👌💙
Sin duda alguna la mejor época para ser adolescente
agreed
hell yeh loved it i was 19 drinking dancing going to different clubs everyone enjoyed themselves remember with fondness 😊😁☺❤👍👵
Absolutely!! I love the 80’s 🤗
I feel sorry for kids today. My kids love the 80s music. We sure didn’t give crap about 40s music when I was teen.
This is so 80s that my jumper just sprouted padded shoulders.
I was at school in 1981, and can tell you that after seeing them on TOTP the night before, everyone the next day was talking about his hair and make-up. So to all of us - they were the coolest shit ever. So glad to have been part of all that and lived through that moment.
Yep me to 👍
Lady Snowblood I graduated in 82, had hip friends, hip clothes, hip drugs, and always the hippest music. The ‘80s were a dream
Yeah you have to love the 80s and the human league for that
I wouldn't give up living through the 80s, and the music that came out of that era, for anything 😎
Funny enough. I was at school. When I 1st saw the Human League on the TV. The Human League's single was. The Sound of the Crowd. And that was the night in question. When I simply fell in love with the Human League. And Queen Joanne Catherall ♥️ epy. She looked so cute. Little did I know. That I would be lucky enough 2 get a chance 2 meet up with the 2 Human League Sweet ♥️ s IE Queens Joanne Catherall ♥️ (6 times) Susan Sulley ♥️ (4times) and king Philip Oakey 2. Nor did I know that my favourite Human League Sweet ♥️ 4 ever. IE Queen Joanne Catherall ♥️. Will be partly responsible 4 the best night of my life ever.
I was 16 in 1980.
How lucky was I with a decade of fabulous music to come
So was I.
The Human League will always be an iconic band and Phil Oakey is amazing.❤
My favorite song by them. I showed this video to my 26 year old daughter and she said, He's so cool! And saved it to show her friends ☺️
Lol Did she really??? Maybe 26 is different in some countries 🤔 . Everything comes around again, in some cases ,never went away as we’ve been playing our 80’s CD’s & Tapes all along, teaching kids what decent music was, including some 70’s DISCO, like The Whispers : ‘And the beat goes gone’, the iconic Bee Gee’s “Staying Alive”. Sister Sledge, THE Iconic Blondie, UB40, Go West, YES, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Bad Manners, The Specials,The Cult, WHITESNAKE ,Def Leppard, even some of the Sex Pistols 🎸🎹🎺🎸💁♀️
Cool is timeless. As is style and a sence of humour.
That is very cool.
@@fluffylynxpuss5043 well, I’m 18 and I like most of the bands you mentioned above especially The Whispers, Blondie, Fleetwood Mac and the Sex Pistols. I don’t think age is limited for taste in good music..😊
You waited 26 years?
I just love cranking this song on a good 3000 watt car stereo. Every instrument comes out sounding crystal clear. Love human league. Just got back into them and im 56 years old.
Same.. Human League, Heaven 17.. goodness, saw them both perform at a concert at least 25 or more years ago.. such classics.. I'm 56 too 🙂
@@stephanieroberts1157 I am 58 and love them just as much :) Oh, and I loved Heaven 17 as well!
Masterpiece. The constant synth arp line in the back, and terrific bass. Then the synth stabs coming in.
In days of yore, young ladies wore dresses or skirts. I'm so glad that Sporty Spice or foreign cultures have had no influence whatsoever.
Love Action on Swap Shop on a Saturday morning! 🤣👍👍👍👍👍👍
Does anyone else dig how one lady dances on the bass and the other lady dances on the melody and IT WORKS!!!😊
I hadnt noticed, thanks
Best hairstyle of the 80s.
Roland Orzabal's was pretty good, too
Unpopular opinion: Better than don’t you want me
Connorjohnlogic It’s true.
Great track.
seriously slays DYWM
Les deux (super titres) sont battus par "mirror man" !
@@MrJeepstersto some extent I'm in agreeance
This is their best track love it ❤
The blend on that asymmetrical haircut is flawless.
As a metal head I must confess that this band and Spandau Ballet are my two guilty pleasures in life.
james smith human league and blondie are my total faves but I love spandau ballet
actually the metal should be your guilty pleasure; no guilt in liking the brilliant essential HL
+Baroqendmz+ Yeah, it is obvious that you have no comprehension of what being a fan of heavy music is about, otherwise you wouldn't have made such a foolish statement.
Why guilty, THL are a very good band, they even covered the Priest's "Take On The World".... (it ain't great though)
james smith: when it comes to guilty pleasures, you need to understand levels of pretentiousness, and "metal" is MORE pretentious than post punk electronic.
Missus blonde ones moves so supergeil, These are my times!
This is a formidable track that has stood the test of time. At club volume it is still utter goosebumps to this day. Thank you human league, a touch of grace for sure. I have played this magical track since the 1980s, and will rightly continue to do so.
Abso effing lutely!!I have chills run up my spine if I walk into a club and here that opening electric synth!!😍
agreed - the goose bumps now as in 84 when I was 24 - nothing has changed (accept age!!!).
Human League and The Psychedelic Furs deserve way more love, two of my favorite bands ever 🙌
Human League was 80s to me. The look , sound, chemistry, and song writing. Phill 1 of the best singer/songwriters. Joanne & Susan voices and 2 of the sexiest ladies in music ever.
Human League a league of the own. Its 2020 and still 1 of the best.
How brilliant was 80s music. Untouchable.🤩🎹
Brilliant dance classic. Love it bass in the car. This is Phil talking! Genius band. Uk 🇬🇧
I don’t know what anyone else thinks!? But I’m so happy that I was born in the greatest decade with that being the amazing 80’s ……….. many thanks for any likes I may receive for this ? ❤️X
not their generation then
Human league Sheffields finest! Just luv um! Fantastic music 👏🏻👏🏻❤❤❤
I saw them live in the summer at Lingfield racecourse. They played ALL the bangers. Just...magic
I lived near there for a while many years ago ! Spent my time getting drunk.
This is the most New Wave thing ever.
I call it this, THE POWER OF A SYNTHESIZER.
🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️
One of the best bands of the 80s
One of their best songs. Human League were the best electro pop band ever. I always loved the way they used real guitars like Gary Numan and Ultravox.
Listening to this in 2022 and it’s so refreshing! I’m so thankful for CZcams. It’s like a time portal, taking me back to my teen years! I have always loved The Human League. My 21 year old daughter loves them too!
Me and my best mate Jim had an amateur "synth duo". I was a Gary Numan fanatic and he was nuts about The Human League. This takes me right back to those days, sitting in his bedroom with this cranking out of a cassette player. Great memories :)
That keyboard is freaking awesome. 🕺
I've listened to this song at least 20 times this week. Good Stuff !!!
It's a fun song.
So glad i came of age in the 1980s❤
That giant stack of equipment the keyboardist is fiddling with is a modular synthesizer. I love how synth heavy this band was! So cool.
Absolutely amazing. The girl's dance moves, lead singer's vocals... you kidding me? Rock on forever Human League.
Definitely their best single. So underrated
A tune you could through out in today's scene
I can understand why the bleak Britain official video has only had 52k views. This 80s glossy glamour version is worthy of the theme
The ladies' dance move though. I can't 😂
The Human League were one of the groups that defined the 80s
You don't Saturday morning television like this anymore.
They dreamed into action, love action.
One of THE most UNDERATED songs ever....
Timeless keyboards. Didn't understand back then how good it actually is!
The girls where a really good addition to the band. Super cool.
“This is Phil talking” BRILLIANT Usage of Name!!! 😁😁👍🏻🔥🎹
Dont care how the look and how much people make fun of the 80's. This song is absolutely superb.
It's amazing how well the backing band plays with their gear not plugged in!
80’s just got its own vibe
In my life i was only once on concert. And this was Human League in Ljubljana, Slovenija in 1982
R.I.P Andy Fletcher , always remembered. The great eighties never forgotten .
The album is still fresh as a daisy. Brilliant.
Hmm. I can't fault you for liking it or feeling a sense of nostalgia or being brought back to a specific time and place (I mean, I'm here too...). But fresh? I'd be hard pressed to think of a group from the era that sounds more dated than the Human League....
this is shit.
@80s Freak It'll stomp out any of today's computerized music.
AMAZING
65sparx It’s called ‘talent’.
Just seen them in the enmore theatre in Sydney they are still brilliant 40 years later
This tune sums up pure 80s bliss
This guy has one of the best hair styles ever, unequivocally.
This month is the 40th anniversary of this song. July 1981.
Middle of the dance floor at Midnight in a mid 80’s nightclub in the Midlands surrounded by dry ice and strobes and lasers with this playing...
If only I could relive those moments of my youth one more time...
When i watched this on totp as a kid I was in awe of Phil Oakey,
Absolutely tremendous and reeks early 80's🔥🔥🔥
I met Phil in a stereo equipment shop in mall in Sheffield in the '90. Top Bloke.
Susan always looks like she's having fun unlike Joanne who just looks like she's had enough. Gotta admit that I enjoyed their music and still do to this day.
Joanne’s always a bit demure. Susan’s 100% pure extrovert.
Amazing songs from this band that remain classic and will never get old 🔥🔥🔥
I love how the girls just do their own thing, not in synch or anything, it's asymmetrical
I've seen Human League countless times and never tire of seeing them
11 years old, South London. The worst of times, the best of times. Crying because it happened and it's gone. Take me back? I'll try it all again but this time without the mistakes. Except wisdom is no help when the heart is weak. Our memories aren't perfect but feelings, the qualia of youth beginning, of possibilities - these are eternal. Music takes us back and holds us in the comfortable embrace of a timeless, blameless past until the last chords die out and it's time to flip the vinyl. Play me one more time. Let me fade out, not broken nor forgotten.
what
There is something irresistible about the stage persona of prime Human League. The male singer takes over the glamour spot, traditionally assigned to the female(s) in a band. It's Androgyny Simplified, taking the fuss out of Bowie's Seventies, making it look ordinary. And relieving the two girls from the duty of sexual objectification, letting them have fun and shine in their own very likeable ordinariness.
A brilliant observation succinctly put!
Well said. 👍😎
Nonsense, I just look at the crumpet.
Hmmmm
Phil maintains his hard-line heterosexuality despite being the poster boy of videogenic androgyny and that's entirely feasible but irrelevant though. We grew up with sounds and people we identified with. By offering an alternative to straight ahead masculinity Bowie, Bolan et al shaped us as much as we allowed them to and sometimes in ways we had no way to deny. We had fewer labels but most of them were wrong, simplistic, of more use to those outside than inside. There is however no moral obligation to make sure others' label for you is correct.
‘no matter what you put me through i’ll still believe in love’ 🥺
Real music where REAL INSTRUMENT'S ARE BEING PLAYED BY THE MUSICIAN HIMSELF!!! GENIUS
This is my favorite Human League song.
