At one of our recent events, our conductor Masa learned about the tragic passing of one of his first and dearly loved choir kids - Megan. But in the end, it really does matter.
What a talent they have Chester would be so proud, shame he will never know how many ppl he saved. You know when just one person hit a cord with so many ppl they would never meet when the biggest legacy they left was a long history of wonderful music and a massive awareness of mental health issues. I had more ppl asking me if I'm ok and not accept "I'm ok" for an answer since he died.

My very best friend, a 34 year old mother of a little baby who got married a year ago, suffered from depression. One evening in summer 21, she called me and told me that she's contemplating suicide. We talked for hours on the phone. I was telling her how much she means to me and her family. We talked about her cute little daughter and how much she would need her right now. How wonderful it will be when her daughter learns to talk or has her very first day at school. And just to tell her how worthy she is, I mentioned "One More Light". She loved it and called it her new favourite song. I just wanted to tell her how much I care.
On the very next day, I visited her at the psychiatric hospital. We took a picknick and she cried even more. I was holding her in my arms and comforted her with all of my love and empathy. We talked about a strategy to feel better, and I wanted her to agree that I contact her husband and family. But she denied.
I was struggeling about this, but in the end I agreed, hoping to have her full confidence. I told her that she could call me anytime, I would be there immediately. I begged to do so, to be honest.
After all, she seemed to be calm and strong enough to face the nearest future. She even called me some days later to tell me that she's allowed to leave the hospital in order to see her family and to start an out-patient therapy. She said that she's quite fine.
A few days later, she took her life on the 20th of july, just as Chester.
Her little girl was eight months old then. She did not live to see even her first wedding day. I never felt this guilty before and I miss her so much.

To all of you, out there in the world weird web: this song ist about worthyness. It is telling you how wonderful and unique everyone is and that others care about you. Sometimes life is hard, but there are people who love and support you -every single person. Don't disappoint them and make them cry. Do not waste your life. I'm not telling you about a light on the end of a tunnel cause I do not know which tunnel your going through, but about all the people around you that care. Speak to them. Give them a chance. A suicide will NEVER solve a problem. You're not gonna say to yourself that your're feeling better now after passing away. You're just gone, leaving tears and pain and perplexity for those who care. And believe me, there are many people that care. Give them a chance and don't follow Chester. We love you!
This is true. I lost my cousin to suicide about 2 years ago. Suicide won't fix anything. If you ever feel like suicide go talk to someone. You mean so much to someone. If you feel like no one loves you I always will. I mean this to everyone. I cry almost every time I watch this song.

Lost my closest friend to suicide. It’s been hard in the 3 years of her passing including because I had strong feelings for her but I never knew of her suicidal thoughts. I know suicide dosnt solve anything. Shine on.

I often watch this with tears in my eyes. I lost my eldest boy to suicide just three years ago and not a moment goes by that I don’t miss him. His light went out far too early but I feel him close to me in the reminders in the house, even if we have one more chair than we need. Anniversaries and birthdays will always be the hardest and that empty chair is saved for him with a photo to mark his place. I will miss him always. Please if you need help reach out, there is always someone who will be there for you and will help you.
If you are in Australia there are always resources such as beyond blue and lifeline if you feel too alone to go elsewhere. I will always say a prayer for you and keep you in my heart, you just have to ask.

I just lost my cousin in a really bad car accident. She just celebrated her 53rd birthday the day before. She lived for one week prior to the crash and passed away in surgery. I miss her everyday and it doesn’t feel the same not hearing her voice and seeing her every week. This song really means soo much because she impacted so many peoples lives, and now she is no longer with us.

I'm a teacher at a Primary School. In 2022 our school lost a lovely young teacher who happened to be one of my students during my first 5 years of being a teacher. She became my son's teacher during our time of being colleagues too. But now she's gone, leaving behind her husband and baby boy. She became ill at her young age... it was so unfair... her light went out so suddenly. Listening to this song made me realize how precious life really is... This song is so powerful when sang by LP but been sang by children that feel the lyrics takes it to another level, so pure, so deep. Lyrics like this one gives me hope that one day I'll be able to heal of my mental illnesses and help others heal, to finally defeat the call of suicide once and for all and never listen to it again, because that voice that may sound sweet and peaceful is really awful and scary, it brings pain and suffering to those close to us, but meanwhile I'll keep fighting and giving light to others, I do care if one more light goes out, because there are people that cares if mine do and for them I'm trying my best everyday to carry on and heal and be free.

I lost so many of my kids throughout my career as a teacher, all of them precious lights, the youngest 8, only 3 over 30, most to accidents, a few to murder, some to suicide.
In December of last year I lost my mother, who was the greatest light in my life, though she had lived a very long and happy life, to natural causes.
Returning from her funeral, I learned that I had lost yet another ex-student that day.

4 years ago i had to listen to my oldest sibling commit suicide she shot herself in the head to this day i still remember it but she wrote a note to keep on smiling for her and to be strong,for almost two years i couldnt put on a real smile.She was a amazing sister but she was bullied and didnt help our father left us for 8 years and is barely coming back 4 years after her death,she didn't deserve to die she was sutch a kind sole she always put friends and family before herself.May you rest in peace sis we will meet again some day but till then i will continue smiling for you.

I just want to say this video was posted around the time of a really bad depressive episode. I was only 11, had an unstable social life, and I had to one to listen to. And when I did try to get someone to listen, I would be called an attention whore, dramatic, hormonal, and the classic ‘you’re too young to be sad, your life is great! Be more grateful’ and it’s sad that it’s the reality for many kids and teenagers facing mental health struggles. But when an adult is depressed, oh straight to the doctor you go, you’re so brave and strong and shit. I also have been battling anxiety disorders and ocd. I had suicidal thoughts, though I wasn’t seriously considering it, but I definitely had a problem. This song really opened my eyes, made me realise how important and strong I was in my worst weeks. If you are struggling please reach out, I know it seems dreadful but it is so worth it. And I understand not everyone has access the da diagnosis or therapy appointments, but please talk to someone, it can make so much difference. You are not alone and your feelings are valid. I hear you, and I am with you. You are so strong and capable and you have a great purpose in this world. It might not seem like it, but your mind tricks you into believing horrible things about yourself that aren’t true. You aren’t a burden, you aren’t worthless, you aren’t loveable, you aren’t stupid, people won’t be better of without you. It’d very easy to believe in those thoughts but you have to stay positive and keep moving forward. Remember every day you get closer to being better, and I am so proud of you for everything you have overcome and continue to. Remember you are amazing and string, and you will get through this. You are important here, and there are people who love and care for you, I know it feels like. I one loves you but I promise someone does, and they all care so much about you and wouldn’t bear to go through your early passing. Please never give up, suicide is a very impulsive and permanent decision to ‘solve’ a temporary issue. Have some perspective , I assume you are in your teens or early twenties. You are in the most confusing and scariest part of your life. You haven’t experienced everything yet, you need to experience life. It doesn’t seem beautiful sometimes but it is, it is a joyful thing we take for granted. I promise you can get through this, and I believe in you. Have a spectacular day or evening, and make sure yo7 go to bed early tonight, drink s9me water have dinner, brush your teeth, wash your face and sleep soundly. And think about something that makes you happy, preferably do that thing and really focus on how grateful you are for it. Re,member you are loved and so strong and capable, good day
I remember hearing about the loss of one of the original members. It made me sad because she had so much to look forward to. I've dealt with suicidal thoughts on the past but now due to this choir, my family, friends, and my church, I'm happier now.

Depresssion comes and goes in waves. He could have been stable and even hopeful hours before he took his life... had he shown any signs... his therapist and team would have been there.
It was his best friend's birthday, it was another light who had lost the fight; a fight they had probably been enduring together. He drank and since alcohol works as a depressant, a inmense wave came and took him...
It is hard to understand but I felt it once too...drank a whole bottle of wine... and then it just happens. Hopelessness takes over, you think everyone you love is better of without you, and the only thing you want is for the excruciating pain to stop..... I was just lucky someone saw me sitting on my window and said "All good? ..." . Chester just wasn't that day.
Its like having a heart attack after just being cleared by the doctor... it just comes down to where you are ... and if someone can help you fast enough

It's true what they say that the pain and suffering doesn't stop at suicide, it's passed onto our loved ones. I was 6 when I lost my dad to suicide, and I think about him every single day.

Every time I listen to Chester singing this song, I get SO ANGRY. He sang it for the loss of his friend and weeks later, he took his own life. He KNEW what family and friends would feel and he did the same to them that his friend did to him. I've been there. I realized how selfish it is. Yes sometimes life sucks, but the darkness is never as eternal as it feels in that moment. All it takes is to keep breathing. One breath. Just take one more breath. And one more. I PROMISE it gets better. You just have to hold on

I was close to overdosing on my pills yesterday because i wanted it to end. My pet had passed away th day before an i had lost the person with whom i had half my childhood memories. My friend texted me at the exact same time...i spilled my heart out to her....she comforted me and told me that it would get better

I don't wanted to interfere in personal Matter but had to because depression is not some small disease.
Only thing I will say is It can get better with time but don't expect much from others because they can't feel what your feeling right now. Basically live for yourself , you can depend on your hopes not on others hopes. Because that will not hurt you afterwards when you again feel low and think about that time when she motivated you then you might judge her understanding level which would be right but will also hurt hopes that help a depressed person to live.
You can also take help from a doctor instead.
(Just a guy who faced depression and trying to still get over it.)

Never once really enjoyed going to choirs performances, but you all are one that just blows me away. Here I am, listening to this, drinking scolding hot coffee, and yet, I’ve never had so many goosebumps and chills. Ever since I started listening to your covers, especially What About Us, I’ve wanted to be a choir director, because with the right songs and amazing singers and presentation, I’ve realized how beautiful choirs truly are. You all are beyond amazing.

When I listened to this song the first time, I was touched and I cried. I had depression and it seemed that I'd have to live in this hopeless world forever. I wanted to die. But people cared. My friends saw and cared. They made my teachers see and they cared. They helped me to get help and to talk to my parents who cared.
A few months ago, a good friend texted me. And this song was in my playlist. He told me that he decided to go in the next two days. And I decided: I care. And I got the help for him, he didn't want. He was angry and told me that it was not my decision, that it was a breach of trust and that it was wrong. But I knew it was right. And I listened to this song that day and the next days and I knew that it was right.
Today, I watched this video again and the memories came back and I cried. But it was a releasing crying.
We didn't become good friends again, but every time I see him, I realize that he is alive, that I am alive and that it was the right decision.

As a recently bereaved parent myself (our 6-year-old son very suddenly passed away last month due to fulminant myocarditis), I so appreciate the compassion shown to the grieving parent, the sincerity and sensitivity on these sweet children's faces, and the stunning beauty of this song.

I newer knew why was i so different. all of my classmates understood the jokes. They allways knew when something was only a joke.
I brok my classmates arm during one of the times when they bullied me. I regreted it on the spot.
"Thanks" to this during a seesion whith a terapist i realised my IQ is around 160 whitch is above the average but my EQ (Emotional Quotient) is bellow the average.
I had to learn how to react on different emotional situations. I didnt understand why people cryed during a funeral (barely understand till this day). And somtimes it was overwhelming. Than i realised im gay and i tought i was a freak. I couldnt stand it anymore.

Richard I thought about taking my life a year ago, for me it's a recurring thought as I've been fighting against depression and anxiety for over 25 years, also, I'm in a way like you, extremely intelligent for anything that required logic or analysis, but with a very low social intelligence, I was bullied as a child too and thought about suicide since I was 8 or 9, I also thought I was a freak, but I'm not, just as you are not a freak, I have very close friends who are gay and that doesn't change anything, I don't care who they decide to love, I care about who they are as a person. Keep fighting and don't let the demon of suicide win.
The part where the mom is sitting in her daughter's bedroom is so sad, especially when she takes the shirt out of the drawer and cries into it. My grandma died recently from coronavirus and I keep thinking I'm fine, until I go into her bedroom and see all her stuff 😭😭😭😭😭

I too have had those dark thoughts of ending my life, but my family is what kept me on this Earth. I am not a religious person by any means, but family is the most important thing to me.
