It was only the Vichy regime that joined Nazis. And at that time, the political power was in Vichy (under General Pétain). So the army was in connection with the Nazis, but Charles de Gaulle with his radio call of June 18, 1940 on the BBC allowed to set up a French resistance (and also coming from the Maghreb countries)
And in 45, Pétain was classified by the French state as a national indignity, and therefore lost his position.

In ww2 my German grandad got captured by Canadians .It ended up with the situation that the order was given to kill the germans but the Canadians didn’t they let my grandad go because they became friends after the world war my grandad flew to Canada to thank the soldiers who saved him :) so my grandad used to tell me Canadians are the nicest and politest people you can meet even when you’re in the battle filed

@@bigmart932 That is actually one of the biggest embarrassments here too, the abandonment of Singapore is actually still a sore spot, many movies have been made about it. The 80k that were captured by the Japanese were actually incredibly brave and resilient, and the torment they endured shouldn't be forgotten. My great uncle was a Scotsman stationed in Singapore and was in a Japanese camp for most of the war and was abused horribly.
