Iceland volcano: eruption under way on mountain near Reykjavik
Vložit
- čas přidán 22. 05. 2024
- A volcanic eruption began in south-west Iceland near the capital, Reykjavik, on Friday. More than 40,000 earthquakes have occurred on the peninsula in the past four weeks, a huge jump from the 1,000-3,000 registered each year since 2014. Unlike the eruption in 2010 of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which halted approximately 900,000 flights and forced hundreds of Icelanders from their homes, this eruption is not expected to spew much ash or smoke into the atmosphere

Me and my brother went there and we (in a safe distance) did the “ I have the high ground” scene
It was awesome
Every newsreader's nightmare, pronouncing the name of Iceland's errant volcanos.
Every anglophone newsreader's nightmare.
There, I corrected it for you.

@@user-rr9gh5ko1c same thing I'm thinking but there's a major plate that splits thought Iceland so i guess.. Big deal
Awesome experience for the crew in the helicopter. They captured some remarkable footage. What a fantastic country Iceland is. I've always wanted to go on vacation to that dynamic island.
you know there’s already a drone technology. what are they doing up there like they can do something to stop it, but just endangering themselves more.
Do it if you can, it's well worth it - probably the best place I've ever visited.
Not right now though surely? 😂
@@jamesattenbourgh
I’m just coming in to land at Reykjavik
@@Zeus_DV917 That was the silliest thing I've read all day. A tiny drone can't fly up that high and that far from a person piloting it. Also this is the Icelandic Coast Guard; they know what they're doing. If there was any threat of the fissure randomly exploding up into the sky, they wouldn't be flying over it. And I'm sure they do this all the time... it's their job.
It's hotland now
New land being made right there. Nature is awesome.
This is how planets get bigger
@@erictyson5947 that lava was already inside the planet, so no, it is not getting bigger.
@@anhurtjv 😂😂
How is it new land, when it's already land.....
@@tigerstripey4885 it’s new land. That’s it. Like an island made by erupting volcanoes. It’s just new land.
Seriously, who "disliked" this video?? Weird.
The dislike is from climatologists who think man is the largest carbon emitter
Icelandic government: stay away from the lava
Public: of course, yes, definitely, lava = scary, got it
One day later there were already enough people who hiked to the lava front only a few meters away
That is just beautiful
So very awesome to see during the day and even more so at night with the brilliants colors of the lava!!
volcano: erupts
iceland: it's free real estate
They'll probably build a geothermal plant thare.
"How about those people in Kilauea, Hawaii who built their homes right next to an active volcano and then wonder why they have lava in the living room." - George Carlin

HA! GOTEM!
Natures beauty.
Reminds me some of the East Rift lava flow on Hawaii.....
It is a comparable basaltic lava flow, yes.
thank you for sharing how a volcano is when it erupts...

Now Fireland
Finally Frodo did his job!
LOL 👍
The heli is going to rescue Frodo and Sam lol
Will Iceland be required to purchase extra Carbon Credits for this?
gorgeous.
I'm gonna build my castle over there
First aerial footage I've seen.
Nice one 2021!
Would be nice to see up close 4K footage with a drone video camera. It would be less shaky too.
They banned drone flight for a little while bc it might get in the flight path of the Helicopters causing a danger
@@danielr02 been watching the live feed for 2 days. People were within 100ft of the main cone yesterday, some with drones flying, some even brought the pet dog.
Stop acting like some messiah.
Earth is astounding.
Just a reminder than mankind isn't in charge as much as they believe. I am reminded of that every day when I look at St Helens. I think that Kilauea has been spewing more lava into the crater than this for the last 3 months.
m A and terrifying.
@@robertslugg8361 so true, here we are freaking out over man made carbon emissions meanwhile the last few volcanos just dumped more carbon into the air than the entire industrial and modern eras combined.

looks so cool!
But is actually very hot! LOL!
Is lava wet?
Beautiful. And I'll expect a bit smelly!
The gases from the volcano are deadly. But the gases will die down eventually
Beautiful 😍 💗 💕
0:54 THe public is advised to stay away from the area. And when you check out live feed there are many photo lamps blinks in back of the volcano.
They are actually allowed to be there as long as they are not putting themself in risk and also this is a very small volcano so it’s okay since there is very little poisonous gas there :)

Isn’t the Katla eruption due too?
Yes it has been almsot 103 years since it last erupted and it is supposed to erupt every 40-80 years

Beautiful ngl but deadly
Reykjavik? I remember memorizing thay name for claas
Stay safe everyone. 😢
@I've seen the Twinkie and the damage done exactly lol. It's not like a catastrophe
Who is naming these volcanoes?
Is this many volcano eruptions normal..? Seems like there's been a lot of earthquakes as well . And I'm talking diverse places . Could be because I'm paying more attention. Fracking and drilling millions of holes next to major fault lines doesn't help I'm sure. Seems like they never stop anymore .
glad no one is harmed
Ok.
What is This❓
I love volcanoes 💃 creates more plantation n land on earth it clears the debris within earth oozing out lava rich of minerals .🤩

Red lava? What about the yellow one?
Now I get what Nick Zentner means when he talks about lava from fissures flowing over land. I've been watching his videos and man, no wonder people flee...that stuff flows for miles and can go on for some time. I hope everyone is safe.
Nobody's fleeing there. The eruption is conveniently located in a bowl.
In fact, many Icelanders have hiked in...

The eruption has occurred in the perfect place from the point of view of safety and also science. There are no human settlements nearby, and the valley location enables people and cameras to observe the spread of the lava from the vantage point of the surrounding hills. It is quite a show . . .
Until the lava overflows the valley xD
