    Orangewood sent me one of their Hudson dreadnaught guitars to check out, this is a brand that only sells direct online so I guess its up to folks like me to let everyone know if they are a real product or not. Tune in to hear my vague and poorly informed observations on an acoustic guitar. Also I plug it into a looper and do trippy nonsense.

    You're pretty much spot on with your acoustic tone guessing. Every Taylor I've heard while mixing sound at open mic are all very bright and jangly, and vice versa with Martins. But the Taylor pickup system makes them sound a bit to bright and tinny, which is why my co host put the Anthem pickup in his Taylor. You can blend the undersaddle pickup, and the internal mic to get some absolutely gorgeous tones. I want to put one in a guitar for doing some percussive looping.

    I bought an inexpensive parlour model after seeing a demo by another CZcamsr. They were having a sale so I couldn't say no. Considering the price, it sounded amazing. It was very bright and easy to play. It was so nice I went back and did a complete setup on my Alvarez parlour so it would compete better. I later bought one of their mahogany minis to drag around. I also like that they donate instruments to schools.

    The True Mic sounds incredibly natural. It sounds as good as your mic. My mind is blown. And that middle place is really great too. You get a nice crispness. Phase inversion helps cut feedback on stage.

    Has a great acoustic/mic sound. LR Baggs is top-line stuff. It really sounds great in any configuration. If I didn't already have some torrified acoustics (which were more expensive than this) I'd seriously consider the Hudson. Very nice articulation.

    The brass on the end pin is due to the LR Baggs System. The end pin is replaced with the included piece from LR Baggs. That brass is how you know it’s a genuine anthem!

    The bronze strings give it a very specific tone, I'm not a big fan, but it's clear this guitar is made for that sort of tone.

  • @rindred
    @rindred Před 2 lety +1

    I have to say that's a pretty versatile-sounding guitar. Pretty rich tone when the mic is right up by the sound hole (a/k/a the dreadnaught hole), less bass-y when recorded through the room mic, twangier still through the internal mic, and the typical "artificial" piezo sound. Plus, that matte finish on the sides makes it look like molded copper on camera, which is cool.

  • @NJ-cv6mw
    @NJ-cv6mw Před 2 lety +2

    I mostly play acoustic and thought it was a good comparison between the LRBaggs and an external mic. The external mic seemed to catch more of the attack, but you could dial in the pickup to get some of that. Just as a price point, the Anthem system is about $300. I liked the overall sound, but I play a dreadnought as well so it fits what I expect and like. Good video!
    My niece got an Orangewood for Christmas and it sounds really good for a sub $500 acoustic with pickups and built in tuner.

    I got one of their Echo acoustics last Christmas. It doesn't have a pickup, but they do make one with it. Normally $350, got it on sale for $275, and I think it sounds great. Guy I bring my guitars to was very impressed. It does have a double action truss rod, which I guess is sort of rare on cheaper guitars.

  • @iwaspaidtoflywithyoubatman

    It's sounds ok...but if I'm going to spend $900 on an acoustic, I ain't buying an Orangewood. A Seagull or Takamine or lower end Martin or Taylor would be a better buy. That said I did buy one of their cheap acoustics on sale as a campfire guitar and it is perfectly fine for what it is.

  • @MuttonChops24
    @MuttonChops24 Před 2 lety

    The brass strap button is an L.R. Braggs thing. Their output jack is not standard threaded so you have to use their strap button rather than any other standard button.
    Its kinda neat though, as to anyone with a keen eye, it confirms you are playing with LR Braggs pickups rather than some off brand/knockoff.

    Very nice sounding guitar with all the settings. I never thought I would be interested in an acoustic as I'm more of an electric guy, but a coworker recently gave me a Mitchell acoustic. It was in good shape but being the guitar builder/modifier guy that I am I had to update/modify it. I basically cleaned it up, did a full neck and fret job on it, changed to good strings and made some cosmetic changes. Now I love it, the sound is great, much better than when I got it. I also slotted the bridge and attempted to intonate it. Goes to F flat on the high E string...new saddle time...might as well replace the nut too. Graphtec loves me! Am I an acoustic guy also now?

  • @mindfall82
    @mindfall82 Před 2 lety

    Taylors get a bad rap for being overly bright but it all depends on the woods, and imo the their pickup system has a lot to do with it. A lot of people complain about the ES2 undersaddle piezo..the older ones had Fishman. Also all after the yr 2000 have a bolt on neck and that might have a lot to do with it! Electrics with bolt ons are snappier usually where as neck through are warmer, although that's debatable. Anyway I have a 614ce w/ maple back n sides and it doesn't sound overly bright, can depend on strings as well so lots of variables

    I have an Orangewood Hugo, their baritone model that runs about $500, idr the exact price. Honestly really nice guitar for the price, plays great. The tuners are a little eh, they hold tune fine and work okay they just feel a little stiff, like they aren't great for the baritone string tension. I'm not an acoustic guy either, it's the only acoustic I own and only the second one I ever have owned, but it's very pretty and feels very well made. The gig bag it came with is nice, the electronics are very serviceable (I run it thru my POD Go w/ an acoustic IR when I play it at church, but it's not bad w/o it, just a very standard piezo sound). Mine's got the little wing inlays all along the neck and looks very classy.
