    Austen sounds a lot lighter than the Hudson, but I do actually prefer the more richer, deeper sound of the Hudson. Whether it's worth another 800 bucks is a whole 'nother story.

      The thing about expensive guitars is that they will pay for themselves, because in 1000 hours of playing they come out to about $1 an to play

    You can really hear the difference, the Hudson has a rich warm sound thats clearly defined but even Austen is not only a great value for its price range it also has magnificent sound that is full bodied . It really comes down to what a musician is looking for . The high end Orangewood Hudson is for those who intend to play that guitar for life because its a true keeper and pro-rated .

    I would definitely pay for the hudson it's like transitioning from my beginner laminated wood guitar into my current guitar with solid wood. The deep end is just magical compared to my beginner guitar. I also really liked the austen it's tone is impressive for that price. Great video btw. Love your channel.

    orangewood really have done a great job with their quality. I started off with a yamaha fg800 as my first real guitar and upgraded to the orangewood sage which is the all solid wood( spruce top and mahogany sides and back) grand auditorium. such a beautiful sound and easy to play. cannot recommend orangewood enough. great demo.

    Hey guys , I took a chance and bought the Dana spruce mini guitar which is $125 their cheapest model for my son to practice. I had to do a but of truss rod tuning as per the instructions. I am pleasantly surprised at the sound quality of the guitar although admittedly not at the same level as a mini Taylor. But at this price it is outstanding. For those that want this in Oz. Use a freight forwarded company from the USA such as myus.com to get your orangewood shipped into Oz. I am now thinking of buying a midrange model.

    Thanks for doing this review! I love how you do the side by side or up and down comparison. You do the comparisons better than any others out there. Using identical samples, flat picking and finger picking. Wow that is just really, really helpful. I purchased the Hudson after watching your video and have not regretted it. The LR Baggs pickup is fantastic. It accurately represents the sound of the guitar.

    And so, the best guitar I EVER owned right out of the box, just opened it and impressed. Hudson live, Torrified Sitka Spruce top, Mahogany solid back and sides, open Grover tuners and LR Baggs Anthem pickup system. Played a "G" chord right out the box, pretty much in tune, yeah......hard shell case etc..... very good deal... HIGHLY recommend this channel and that guitar........ now.... point me to your best videos for an out of practice intermediate player. :)

  • @Steveh112
    @Steveh112 Před 3 lety +2

    I'm impressed that they do good factory setup on the cheaper model. Was the action comparable between the two, both easy to play? I bought a guitar in the $200 range a couple years ago, an Epiphone AJ220S/N. When I got it in, the action was so high at the first fret that I couldn't even hold the 1st and 2nd strings down with 1 finger to play an open F chord. So I bought a set of nut files and a feeler gauge set on Ebay and filed the slots deeper to get .012 clearance on the 1st string and .016 on the 6th, installed a pickup under the bridge saddle, and sanded down the saddle for optimal low action on the high frets without buzzing strings and it plays like a better more expensive model now. Often a big difference between a cheap and expensive guitar besides materials is the time they took (or didn't take) to set it up. So if the $195 model comes set up well, it's definitely a plus for a beginner who won't know how to do the setup themselves and they won't get discouraged or even worse yet end up with fatigue or injury due to it being too hard to play as many cheap guitars often are.

    • @GuitarZero2Hero
      @GuitarZero2Hero  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Steve! Yup, the action was very comparable, the playability of both were very similar. The Hudson obviously had the upper hand with the better build materials and more well rounded sound response as to be expected, but would definitely recommend the $195 model to beginners.

    So I have been wanting an upgrade to my Yamaha FS820. Even if it’s just something different to play. The Orangewoods seem to be great bang for the buck. Have watched 50 different review videos and still just don’t know what to get. I have played for a bit over 2 years. I have learned to play on CZcams from a few creators but spend a lot of time on GuitarZero2Hero because I love the teaching style and video approach. Do I spend the money and go with the solid body mahogany or spruce or do I just go with something like the Oliver. I want a new guitar with great sound, easy playability, and will last. I guess I am struggling because this is a want and not a need and I haven’t found anything to 100% convince me to spend the extra $300-400 on the solid body.

There has been moments where I loved, what you played but had no clue, if this was an "original" by you or just random tones or an actual song :-P Sometime I just want to listen to that over and over again, so it would be quite nice to now, what you've played (if you played something I could listen somewhere) :-D

    Just ordered the Hudson based on a friend's recommendation and after watching your video a couple of times. I've never played the guitar before, so was looking for a beginner guitar. • @GuitarZero2Hero
      @GuitarZero2Hero  Před 3 lety +4

    guys I need help. I am thinking of getting the Hudson or the Ava. my play style is varied, so I like to play everything, strumming, flat picking, and finger-style. I know both are incomparable due to the difference in body shape. But if you were given a choice to pick one, which one would you choose and why?

    • @GuitarZero2Hero
      @GuitarZero2Hero  Před 3 lety +2

      Can’t speak for the Ava. But I have just received a sage to compare and the Hudson sounds better in terms of tone. The larger body just offers that amazing sound. The Ava is the smallest of them all so I feel it’d probably have the quietest volume. I’ve heard from the founder than his favorite tonally is the Hudson too. So if you don’t mind the dreadnaught size I’d go for that. I think they’re all gonna sound great though but depends is you’re priority is tone or comfort.

    I own 2 orangewood guitars. The Echo and most recently the Hudson. No doubt about it the Hudson easily compares to my more expensive higher end guitars as far as sound quality goes. That said I was highly disappointed with the Hudson in that there is a major blemish in the finish that is quite noticeable. I thought it was a crack at first glance. That's how bad it is. The blemish goes across the entire top of the guitar just above the sound hole. I do not understand how a flaw as bad as this made it passed QC. Especially knowing that orangewood prides themselves with saying the technicians that do the setups and inspections are musicians as well. IMO this guitar should never have been shipped out or at best it should have been sold as a blem model. I'm not sure what they were thinking but I'm either going to send the guitar back in exchange for a new one or they'll have to offer me a pretty hefty discount. Also the action is not all that great either. It makes me wonder how good and experienced the orangewood technicians are.

    I want to buy the Hudson, Im debating between the regular and live version, do you have an opinion on the live? Ill most likely never use it but someone told me it be better to get it with the pickups in case I ever decide to sell

      Hey Jeff! The live version has that LR Baggs pickup installed which sounds great. That's literally the only difference so it's up to you really. I've also been informed that Orangewood have some new models coming out in the next few months for their Fall 2021 range, so if you don't need it right away, might be good to see what they're like.

      @@GuitarZero2Hero thanks for the reply! That is solid information about the new guitars coming out soon. I will definitely hold off now on purchasing the higher end for now but man I might need to buy one of the less expensive ones for now to hold my itch off. Do you still have the hudson? still digging it if you do?

      No problems. Out of the lower range I’ve tried the Austen, Oliver and Oliver Jr. the Oliver (not the Jr) is my favourite, the mahogany tone is nice and warm. Great for its price. You should be able to find reviews from others here on YT. But that’s my pick if you wanted to scratch your itch with something under $200.

    .....If you put 0.013 D'addario's on the cheaper one....bronze...I'm not sure you'd be able to tell the difference between the two guitars.....
