    people say KIA and Hyundai is bad in reliability....but a study showed Kia and Hyundai are the top 10 most reliable brand...people still think this is the 90s where the were bad? times change people.

      People who claim about reliability are stuck on Hyundai's humble beginnings in the mid 1980's when there was a known issue with reliability.

    Coming from someone who always thought KIA was garbage...I sat in a 2014 model at an auto show 2 years back and fell in love with the interior. Everything inside feels legit to the touch and it just looks great. Test drove the same car (SX-turbo) later that week and immediately made my purchase. Absolutely fantastic car. I've been super pleased with it so far. Best value I could find with all the features loaded into it. That model still had the 270hp engine which I thought was great. Kind of disappointed that they de-tuned it. But please, don't knock it til ya try it. KIA was stepped up their game in recent years.

    I went car-shopping w/ my niece last December and she went with the 2015 Optima. Good choice! Packed w/ value and she gets 23mpg in the city (stop and go SoCal traffic - she doesn't do highways). Much better value then an Accord but comparable with the less-luxurious (and sportier) Mazda 6.

    • @aaronsanchezz
      @aaronsanchezz Před 8 lety +3

      no, the accord is a muuuuuuch better value when u take into consideration the honda will last for 30+ years you will be lucky to get 10 out of a pos Kia

    • @alexrazmjookhah6195
      @alexrazmjookhah6195 Před 8 lety +4

      +Adammartini you wrong!! You get more tech features and a better warranty than an accord which makes this a better value. FYI: This is not a pos KIA whatever that means. It will not last just 10 years because it has just as good or even better quality than an accord. There an article online where KIA/Hyundai are beating German and Japanese cars in quality and reliability.

    • @georgiaguardian4696
      @georgiaguardian4696 Před 8 lety

      +Adammartini Accord is much better designed and engineered. Any one with a right mind would choose either Accord or Camry.

    • @georgiaguardian4696
      @georgiaguardian4696 Před 8 lety

      +Alex Razmjookhah Why better warranty and seemingly more tech features? It's for Kia to make up what it lacks to make it a okay value to compete with Toyota and Honda's offerings. Kia simply sounds cheap and low class.

    • @alexrazmjookhah6195
      @alexrazmjookhah6195 Před 8 lety +6

      +George Phillips why the hell do you care about the name it's still an awesome car. by the looks and quality of Kias lineup of cars it's not low class your just being biased. back in the 80s and early 90s Toyota and Honda had to make up for the mistakes they made too for the cars they build today. And Kia did the same thing. a lot of car companies improve overtime you just got to give them a chance.

It seems like a shame that they had to cut the hp to gain the mpg. But mpg is very important. If it takes to much money to get their that leaves less money for snacks and other things.

  • @MrKeyboardCommando

    By the look of it, this engine has a single turbo. As a rule of thumb, with a single turbo, you can have power at low to medium revs, or power at medium to high revs. The latter will give more power because more revs give more power, but you'll get turbo lag, and a peaky power delivery. The former will give better fuel economy because you don't need to rev the engine to deliver adequate power. The vast majority of car owners want fuel economy rather than top end power, therefore, KIA gave then low to medium revs power. The fact they only lost about 30hp speaks volumes for their engine tuning expertise.

    • @MrKeyboardCommando
      @MrKeyboardCommando Před 8 lety

      matthew von Thank you for agreeing with my comment. Your support is appreciated.

  • @FirstGearDrive
    @FirstGearDrive Před 8 lety

    Kia engineers tweaked the horsepower and torque curves with the 2.0L turbo. Now the 2016 model has 245hp and 260 lb-ft torque vs. last year's model which had 274hp and 269 lb-ft torque. Yes, the fuel economy is better and you mentioned the torque curve isn't as peaky.
    Did the 2016 Optima lose any weight to compensate for the lower power output? I'd be curious as to what the power-to-weight ratio is for the 2016 Optima vs the 2015 model.

    • @JustinKelly

    "Refined it?" That's arguable. Yeah, they gave it more gadgetry, but imo significantly cut into the aesthetics, especially on the interior, to do that and keep the price point the same. Cheaper, more plastickly-looking dash and console, no fog lights, no dual exhaust, simplified moonroof mechanics, and "little things" like removal of cup holder lighting. When they showed me the 2015 and 2016, I literally thought they were showing my an inferior package on the 2016 just the get the 2015 off the lot.

    I like the 2015 Kia Optima in contrast to the 2016 Kia Optima, which doesn't look "all-new" a bit but a significantly refresh; consequently, this move is a cheaper alternative than making this car entirely all-new without sacrificing the boldness of the Kia Optima with the current generation. ... It is a love it or hate it theme Kia has going on and definitely the noticeable characteristics are inside the cabin with quilted, diamond cuts throughout the available, prepossessing Nappa-trimmed leather seating, and climate control seats and a heated steering wheel.
    Although this Kia is lacking a naturally inspired V6, a more prominent look, and an overall bold, first-impression, but it does pack a statement with abundance in luxury with value for the money that is far less than a Lexus ES when comparably loaded with options and it will make a great alternative for anyone who wants practicality without the price tag.

    I've always liked this car's looks. However, when I rent vehicles I have stayed away from it. Why? If you look at the interior, especially the dashboard, it looks like it made up of multiple pieces of hard, cheap plastic glued together. In the 2016 they've finally solved that. Although the outside is still appealing, they made the dashboard one solid piece of a higher quality material with well integrated components. It is much more appealing. Also the 2016 has the Android Auto connectivity, which I experienced in a 2016 Sonata that I rented recently. Once you've tried it with your Android phone, you won't want a car without it or Apple Carplay interface. You can buy the base trim of the vehicle you like, but get high end functionally from the entertainment system.

  • @slacksmore
    @slacksmore Před 8 lety

    The design now even more reminds me of the Saab 9-5 in some ways but that's not necessarily a bad thing as they were great cars.
    The new dashboard looks great but a shame from the cheap hollow plastic feel and the center stack intruding more than it should.
    My father has an older model (his second one actually) and it's a top of the line turbo. He loves it and it surprises him just how fast it really is for a turbocharged four pot.
    It's no Honda Accord, but certainly a lot of car for the money than expected.
    Who knows, my old man might be tempted on a third Optima but the big question is just how drastic is the drop in horsepower and torque on the new turbocharged model compared to the previous generation? His 2013 (I think) in the dark metallic blue is a great looking family hauler and road trip ride.

    Paying an extra 9K for the Turbo model as opposed to the base LX 2.4L is foolishness on the Optima. 247 HP is nothing to shake a stick at when you consider the 13' and 14's had 274 HP. Why the decrease? Beside the performance on the SX or SLX models is a disappointment. I bought the 2015 base model in Smokey blue. The car looks great. I have all the gadgets and creature comforts i need. No need to pony up an extra 5 or 10 grand just for some minor additions like heated seats, turbo, leather, sunroof, etc.

    Like the Forte, Kia took a great looking car and redesigned to someone looking more bulbous. Ironically the Sonata looks sharper than the Optima now

    I'll stick with my '11 sx. with 274 hp. Great car though. I've owned it for a year and only changed the oil. I think it's better built and more reliable than the North American offerings in it's class.

    I'm really stuck on getting the Kia Optima or the Hyundai Genesis, both are great cars, both are Korean, but I'm not sure which one I should get. Both are pretty good looking, reliable, and affordable, but I'm really going towards the Hyundai, but now since a 2016 Optima came out, now I'm on square one, any suggestions?

      Are you serious? How in the world can you even debate with yourself over which car you should get between the Genesis or optima! First off Hyundai owns Kia for the most part. Secondly, those cars aren't even in the same category. The Genesis isn't even going to be called a Hyundai Genesis starting in 2017, it will just be called Genisis. So that should tell you how good that car is. If you already made your decision I hope you made the smart one. My friend, the Genesis is a FAR better car than the optima.

    The small changes to the exterior are nice and adds to an already-attractive car. However, Kia, like Hyundai, went back to the 90's with this interior. Very safe, boring, and uninspired. The outgoing model's interior is far superior to this and I wish they would have improved upon that design. And the mpg is pretty unimpressive. The BMW 435i gets better gas mileage with its 6-cylinder turbo engine, which is also much faster.

    always lol at you dork reviewers who seek out plastic like a demented blood hound. name a car under 45 grand that doesn't have plastic in it? if your reference is a $750k rolls royce, then yeah, let's fuss about the presence of plastic. but that is a pretty mental standard.
