I did buy it to grind the US tech tree… now before I get roasted, I had a friend who started playing the game about a month ago and he is full boar into the US tech tree, I also started grinding it with him (German main). Basically, we both said, “I’ll buy it if you buy it…” response was “…bet”. We are both idiots.

Honestly ive bought the mirage f1c 200, f4s, f4j(uk), mig-23ml, su-39 and the a6-e tram, they are all objectively good planes in their respective roles. That mirage is super underrated, i do extremely well with it.

The problem with 11.7 and 12.0 planes is that you will constantly get uptiered so you always get enemies in much stronger planes
Bro? i have mirage 2000cs4 for like few months now and i got only a few uptiers, and even then i managed to kill 2 su-27 in 1 battle and survive
12 and 11.7 is always 11.3 in my 100 games of the mig29 9.12 i only got uptiered like 4 times

f-16 but with more countermeasures, faster in every measurable way, 2 more missiles, and in air RB you get two per game.
While I do hate the fact that we are now getting Rank 8 premiums and even more so the F-20 as a premium which should have been an event vehicle. It at least isn't overpowered or undertiered. Its imo the perfect example of what a premium should be. A tech tree grinder and an SL farmer, not more, not less. Sure they can be strong, but they should never be stronger than tech tree vehicles.
I don't want rank 8 premiums in the first place, but if Gaijin is that greedy I wouldn't mind as much if they at least keep them balanced, rather than having the 10.3 situation with 32 F-5Cs and no variety whatsoever.
I'll be honest. If I hadn't gotten the F-20 as a gift from a good friend of mine, I would have hesitated, despite just how much I love it.
I adore the history of this aircraft, and naturally, its appearance in Area 88, a 1980s manga and anime about Cold War aviation, in which the protagonist flies the F-20. In fact, the very first skin ever done for the F-20 was the Area 88 skin I made and posted within a few hours of the dev server opening.
But in War Thunder it lands in an odd spot. I hesitate to call it overtiered, because on paper it's an F-16A with an F-5's airframe, but at the same time, considering the trouble I've had using it, especially in Sim, I can't help but admit to hoping it had a more favourable BR.
Long time player and I grabbed it cause it's an interesting plane. I think it belongs at 11.7. It is clearly better than the mig23ml and f4s, but it is no f16 or mig29 either. I do find it fun to fly, so I'm happy with it but I do agree that the F5c is a better pick for most.
I think the F-20 could stay at 12.0... If they moved all F16As to 12.3, and every other current 12.3+ should be moved up one BR step as well.

I simply spent the $25~ish to put a Talisman on my F-5E and wabam. Ez grind. Rank I - V is decently easy to complete with regular tech tree vehicles so long as you have a premium account, and the will power to grind for probably hundreds of hours, which a Premium would obviously help speed up but the F-5E is GODLY and let me finish the entire top-tier US in about a month of semi-casual play after work.
I did something similar,but with the F4E. I play SB mostly and 60K rp away from the F14A,got already the 15A/16A

I like it. Full afterburner + airbrake and you can hang in any turn fight. But i seem to be fighting F-14/15s and MiG-23/29s more often than anything else. The missiles are solid. A lot of people think they can head on an all aspect missile. Taking a little bit of time to flank so enemies have less flares helps. The only thing really holding it back is the radar change.
This is only my experience with it. Im not advocating for anyone to purchase it. I got it because i like the airframe and see trainers over my house every year.

Long a Time player here, Picked this thing up since F-5s are my favorite aircraft to fly, and while the F-20 has been a ton of fun, its in a really weird spot.
It's kinda a struggle bus if you attempt to fight craft at or above your BR, but excels in fighting things below it, and if it weren't for this jet having such a favorable matchmaker (constant down-tiers), it would be in a terrible position.
After playing for a while, I feel like we might need another BR decompress yet again in the 11.0 to 12.0-12.3 area, as the difference between and up-tier and down-tier is well,

Im RB only and when I used to force myself to play this garbage to do easier daily tasks I was always 1st in a team and basically never had less than 12-14 kills no matter what BR lineup I used. And all that without not even knowing meta for arcade. I stopped doing that cause it was way to dumb and boring, RB is just better in every aspect despite having shit ton of issues. I watched some of his videos and only like 10% or even less people even use flares there, literally the most basic defensive system. They just fly mindlessly and try to lock on anything they see
I bought the F20 while wasted. When I realized, I’m thinking “what the fuck did I just do”. But when I played it, it’s probably one of my favorite top tier premium. F20 surprisingly slaps and I’ve been doing really good with it. Rn I’m at a 14 k/d with a little over 200 kills. So I would say that it comes down to how experienced you are. Almost all the F20 players I see in game have 800 deaths and 100 kills.

I love how litteral years later its the same arugument F-16 vs the F-20 irl thats how it was because these planes were competing for the spot in the airforce, F-16 won out obviously but the F-20 did have a better AOA and was faster so the questions always been how would these 2 stacked up against each other.
Why buy the F-20 to grind the US tech tree when you can buy the F-4S Phantom. The Phantom carries way more ordinance and has a very good radar.
got a 2.4 kd in it rn, i love the guns and the speed this thing has. Missiles are easily flared but if the enemy is not looking its really easy to get a +3km shot on someone with 9Ls. Very enjoyable and very efficient grinder, the thrust makes me never go back to the f-5c

Besides, I highly do not recommend grinding Germany unless you have grinded every other tech tree already; it's not worth it past props. If you must grind DE, I'd get the Ju 288C (everybody will hate you, though).

Hi. I just started WT and I bought the F-5C (Just be aware, I am level 8 lol.) and I've tried air realistic battles and I am getting absolutely no kills. I was told that the plane is horrible at CAS so I mostly just use the A/A missiles given, but even with that I am completely destroyed, if I go from a distance or not. I have played roughly 20 games by now on the F-5C premium in air realistic battles, but the most I have gotten is 2,000RP which was for 1 kill, and in your video it showed you got 6 kills but 37,000RP. Is there any tactics to get good kills?
First things first, RP gain is time based. The number you see on screen when you complete an action means nothing.
I recommend playing lower BR vehicles first. At level 8 I doubt you have enough game sense to enjoy 10.3. This is not your fault, but do take some more time to learn the game.
@@WalvisYT Yea I thought I needed some more experience but how? The highest tier plane (that isn’t a premium) is a 4.7, and I doubt you can learn much about fighter jets from that. So do you mean as in dogfighting tactics?
I bought it.. and it is absolutely my favorite plane in the game. Its fast, it accelerates well, it turns well, with the aim 7 it has legs, and close in the aim 9's work well. I would buy it again and I ace'd it because I have so much fun playing it

if you want good air tree grinder get f5c or a6e f5c is great fighter and a6e might lack performance but missiles makes it so viable to use

Im thankful for not expecting the F-20 to be the be-all-end-all plane. Did i need the Tigershark when my US tt is complete answer is no i bought it because I like to collect vehicles when I am able. But all in all I think its a pretty good plane in the hands of someone who knows what the hell they are doing. But i enjoy the plane even with all its flaws.

Yo Walv!s, I think you should do the video aboud F-89D (I own it for couples of years). It have proxy fuse ffar rockets, can easy go over 900km/h and take head ons from over 3km range. Imo the most OP prem in WT. Love mate

IMO the best use of spending real money is just premium time and flat out buying GE for convertible RP. I play arcade and take a 5 jets into every match so I get a long time in match and more opportunities to get targets destroyed, assists, etc..
that’s my recipe for grinding to top tier. I’m 36 hours of game time in, and in rank 7 already.

MiG-23ML, F-4S, and F-5C are all good premiums. All of them have different positives and negatives. I'd say pick whichever you think is the coolest. Personally, unless the matchmaker changed a lot, I'd go with the F-5C.

In just a few days a bunch of packs on the Gaijin store will go on sale. I'd suggest you wait for these sales.
Keep in mind the F-20A will not go on sale until at least 6 months have passed since it came out; it'd buy the F-4S / F-5C on a discount over the non-discounted F-20A.

I find it kind of odd, because the F-20 was known to be maneuverable during it's short life. In fact two of the test planes crashed because the pilots over Ged and went into G-Lock, killing the pilots and destroying the first two test aircraft. Sadly because I think only 3-5 of these were ever built there isn't much actual flight data save for testing aircraft.

Yes. Although how effectively you can actually earn GE does depend a bit on your region. I tested it out for myself, and it works exactly as advertised.

I enjoy the f20 but it shouldnt be 12.0 or they shiuld upgrade it armament options. The missoles are true to life, but it coukd carry up to 6800lbs of munitions for air to ground missions

Actually this is good decision(except for the price), but not suited in WT environment.
Primium vehicle shouldn't better then most tech tree vehicle, and it happened few times before, so it is quite suprised they put it to the chellenage match rating and not make it dominate in lower tier.
But at the other hand, it price didn't match with it's performance, also the WT gameplay and environment makes you so easy to die before you hit anything, if it's none-missile gameplay, it works well, not for the place that fly around with missile.
The F-20 is another great vehicle that gets plowed by Gaijin's refusal to decompress the BRs
