  • Hitting it long is nice. But if you don't possess the touch, feel and imagination for short shots you still can't score even after getting close with a long drive. ------------This is a shorter version for Face Book viewing.

    I've taken 3 golf lessons in my life. The first I left midway because the "instructor" just talked and couldn't hit shots. The 2nd I ended up teaching how to draw short irons to get at back left pins. Useless. Then my last lesson was with a guy I had watched for months, who seemed to really help folks and knew what he was doing, and who later qualified for and played the European senior tour. I had previously learned from Dalton's "How to hit it as straight as you can point" VHS product. He had me hit a dozen 7 irons, all striped and on line. Then I hit a few 3 woods, same thing. He looked at me and said, "Don't ever change your swing. Maybe we can work on putting." Of course, like all golfers, I ignored his advice and tried everything under the sun, but I always end up back to where I was 20 years ago. Did it again yesterday for a 78, not making any putts outside 10 feet. Golf almost seems routine when you can hit fairways and greens in regulation, and putting becomes the difference in the score.

    Dalton, you really hit it so freakin straight still. Those shots are laser beams, dead center. Thanks for all of the unique lessons. (We owned your VHS tapes back in the day). I would prefer to play golf this way, straight on. Most typical golfers would be best served to hit it dead nuts straight than attempting to fade the ball.

    Hi again, When u take away, which hand is the dominant one.or doing more of the work? also in the down swing and follow through, which hand and arm is doing the pulling and pushing? or since you talk about soft grip helps you feel the club head in the follow through. are they of equal grip and force right through out the swing? ( for EG: Moe norman says his left hand is the stronger through out his swing).

      It's being able to put the head dead in the back of the ball, that and having clubs that load and unload at the same place with all of them. Meaning where my driver loads and unloads so do all my club. I just have one feel.

    Good rhythm, balance and constant swing speed. I am not very flexible being 67 and when I take the club back I end up bending my left arm because if Intry and keep it straight I feel under tension. However on the downswing I straighten it out but am inconsistent in my strikes. Your thoughts?

    • @DaltonMcCrary
      @DaltonMcCrary  Před 7 lety

      Robert I don't keep my arm straight either, my left arm bends. I just swing slow enough so I have time to straighten it out at impact. It's just figuring out what your body will and won't do. And getting you some clubs that reward your efforts Robert. You can't bowl 300 with a house ball and you really can't play to your potential with rack golf club that are mass produced to fit the average height of man. Trust me on that one.

      Henry-Griffitts on youtube look for H/G club building process. You'll see the difference in what they do that rack club manufacturers can't do even for the Tour Pros they pay to play their sticks.

    • @DaltonMcCrary
      @DaltonMcCrary  Před 3 lety

      Well, let me say this. In baseball you stood tall. You hand to for you had to be standing up so you could get to that low just on the inside corner of the plate pitch. Golf is that swing all the time. That and, take a look at the video from above I just posted. I stand so tall that my hands at address are in front of my toes as everyone does. The difference is through my entire swing my hands never get behind my toes.

    Greetings...I have to ask Dalton. If you're hitting those fairway woods off the deck so straight, why do the professionals miss so many tee shots? Example at the "Masters" the 1st at Augusta...how many tee shots go either left or the first bunker on the right. Your precision and lines are very consistent...but many professionals are not.
    I do like you have said...stick with a philosophy in swing/playing style...and see it through. Stop changing and really adhere to a swing philosophy and become very good at it!
    Good health to you big fella. Cheers from Australia.

    I just watch you draw and fade... I could not see where your ball at address was.
    it looked on camera that in drawing the ball your feet were right of target but where was the Ball, right of centre stance? or was it middles of stance?? and your fade, where was the ball at address? Please..

    • @DaltonMcCrary
      @DaltonMcCrary  Před 9 lety +3

      Good question. I did not turn around and show that because I don't move the ball position. But that doesn't mean you should not move it back a half ball for the hook and move it up a half trying to fade. The KEY element in doing either is trusting the fact that you are aiming and swinging away from the target without hesitation and trusting the face to produce the shot.. You can practice that into a tire also but the best way is just get out there and dig the shot out of the dirt at the range. This is not a shot that you can kind of sort of practice and try on the course. I worked on straight for a long time before I even tried a hook or fade and still to this day I do not have total command of either a hook or a fade to the point that I use either on the course. I don't. I have a dead straight shot full -- a dead straight shot less than full -- a low wind cheater shot and that is all the shots I have. Seriously. The deal is I can hit those three shots with 11 clubs. So no matter where I am after my drive I have 33 options for a second shot. NO WEEKEND GOLFER EVER NEED MORE OPTIONS THAN THAT I GUARANDAMNTEEYOU.

      H/G are the Rolls Royce of golf clubs. They pioneered dynamic club fitting, they patented the process, they set the entire golf industry's standard for club fitting (that by the by not one other company that sells clubs adheres to) and they wrote the club fitting manual. That should tell you what you need to know about them.

    • @DaltonMcCrary
      @DaltonMcCrary  Před 9 lety +2

      I put everything right in the center. I may move the ball one ball forward or one ball back sometimes but as a rule everything I show swing wise is all in the center. If you play with it up or back a tad for your own comfort that's fine.

    Why have you got tape on your fingers?

    • @DaltonMcCrary
      @DaltonMcCrary  Před 9 lety +4

      Now there is a good observation. On those VHS tapes you have from 25 years ago I mention that it's best if your arms are the same strength. You don't want your strong right hand to dominate the left and it can very easy. If you pinch your right index finger and thumb together it will activate the outside muscle on your forearm. If you relax your index finger and thumb completely the outside muscle deactivates. It's not tight. If you grip the club in your right hand with the last three fingers of your right hand it activates the inside muscle of your forearm. The outside muscle of your forearm is stronger than both sides of your left arm. If you are right handed. So there is nothing you can do with the left arm to make it as strong as your right.
      To get them move equal you grip with the bottom three fingers of the right hand. Just don't pinch the index finger and thumb. Leave the outside muscle relaxed. When I started this many, many years ago to remind me I put tape over the knuckle of my index finger and thumb tightly so I can't pinch my index finger and thumb together. I still do it 30 years later.
