  • A boat trip from Castlebay, Barra to the now uninhabited outer Hebridean island of Mingulay. Sailing under sea stacks and arches, gazing down from majestic cliffs and watching golden eagles circling overhead. What a place.
The Mingulay Boat song was never played on the island by its native inhabitants but is nonetheless a lovely tune. Played here by John Cunningham.

I was on this beautiful island in 1970,a sail from Barra. It was a Sunday and beautiful day,and not a ripple in the sea.I spoke to the last woman to come off Mingulay, she lived in Barra 82 years of age.We were rowd ashore on a rowing boat as there was no harbour for the fishing boat to anchor. The west side of Mingualy are sheer steep cliffs thousands of nesting sea birds, and seals. The only building standing there was the original Priests house ,used by the shepherds and fishermen then as there was plenty sheep grazing there.A sea eagle flew over my head.If you ever get a chance to visit Mingulay dont hesitate,go,its a lifetime experience
