I wonder where the tears in my eyes came from.......
This keeps popping up it gets better every time I hear it
Great. I’ve never heard the song with a Shruti box. Many greetings from the island of Rügen.
Shruti box ❤️
First time I’ve liked this song since the Corries ❤️🏴
Oh wow. Utterly beautiful. 2 beautiful souls with 2 beautiful voices singing the most beautiful song ever written, which just happens to be my favourite song in the world! Absolutely mesmerising, you've given the song a whole new life for me
Give It Up for the Lasses---They're Great---and Cute to.
This shall be the song (and version) as I'm getting planted. Hopefully not for a few years yet. Beautiful
Well now, beautiful instrumentation and harmonies. Very very good.
😊 we really appreciate your sweet comment! there are so many versions out there...best wishes to you!
"Bloody Brilliant" that's what.................!
I already posted this comment on another version of this song (slightly tweaked version here), but this is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. As some others indicated, the performance is absolutely mesmerizing. There’s so much feeling in the vocals and the tune itself. The song is beautiful regardless, but one thing I like is the way you alternate doing lead and harmony. You both have beautiful voices but with different qualities, and they’re great together. Thank you so much.
You two lassies have brought tears to my eyes....Thank you...
Same here, friend.
Wat een prachtige opname van mijn lieve vrouwen op een Mokums stekkie. xxxx Jannie
Thank you fae the kingdom o fife x
ah one of our favourite kingdoms! we've played at Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Crail folkclubs two years ago... if we could move anywhere in the world and still see our families, it would be to Fife... all the best from the Netherlands!
Beautiful

@@TheLasses Still listening here. Very well deserved, Bravo!
That is a lovely performance. Now I have to work out what the accordion-like instrument is :-)
I got it - a shruti box. Totally new to me - work great for your music
@@lardo666 apologies, we hadn't seen your comment! glad you found it :)
@@TheLasses No problem -at least one of you has been rather busy :-) A fun task to search for an image - it took maybe ten minutes.
Anyway - good luck with the virus and keep making music!
Very very pretty.
thank you!
nice
thanks ✨
In the third verse, what straits are you singing of? 'Far beyond the straits of ....?'
to be honest, we are not quite sure. We learned this song from our friend Timothy Hull, I think we should ask him! Looking at the map I assume it's Cuillin (/Coolin)?
Outer Hebrides. The Minch is the sea channel between the Outer Hebrides and mainland Scotland.
Hugh Roberton wrote this song for one of the Glasgow choirs about two decades after the evacuation of the islanders from Mingulay. The Minch is the channel between the northern Western Isles of Scotland and the mainland and Isle of Skye. The Cuilin is the prominent mountain range on the Isle of Skye. Roberton is using poetic licence to refer to "The Straits of Cuilin".
Mingulay lies to the southern end of the Western Isles, beyond the UIsts, Ersikay, Barra and Vatersay. The islands are beautiful and well worth visiting.
This rendition of Roberton's song is particularly beautiful.
Way this looks like the roof of my previous amsterdam apartment
maybe it was! :D
Beautiful rendition albeit with a typo in your band name
No typo. Get educated.
Beautiful
