- In a conversation with Mehdi for her new contributor segment at Zeteo, called “Unshocked,” Jewish activist, academic, and author Naomi Klein calls for an “exodus from the ideological shackles of Zionism.”
Naomi also reacts to Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu comparing student protesters at Columbia University to Nazis, telling Mehdi that when it comes to Netanyahu, “there is nobody more adept at exploiting Jewish trauma, historical trauma, and turning it into a political weapon for his own advantage.”
Mehdi also opens up to Naomi about why he decided to boycott the White House Correspondents Dinner. “I can't call out what Israel is doing to Palestinian journalists with American-made bombs and then go to a fun, comedy-type dinner with the President of the United States - who's not just responsible for that, but is also not even acknowledging it,” Mehdi told Naomi.
In 2007, Naomi wrote “The Shock Doctrine,” a book that explains what happens when a national crisis throws citizens into a state of shock and how the powerful exploit those moments.
Although it may be one her most popular books, Naomi tells Mehdi that she dreams of a day where the Shock Doctrine will no longer be relevant, where people can stay grounded even in times of chaos.

After that show she was NOT seen on her regular time slots on LBC. Independent of her political leanings, I would like the World to know what people face when they challenge IDF. Her first name appears to be Indian. Her replacement is pro Zionism.

I'm a Mizrahi (family from Baghdad & Tiberias) Orthodox anti-Zionist Jew, and I have long thought of this comparison of Zionism to idol worship. Its hard to read the story of the Israelites worshipping the golden calf from the book of Exodus, and not think of all the similarities to Zionism and the hold it has on my people today. But I had never heard this from someone else before, it was just a thought that came to me from reading Torah. So its very interesting that other Jews have independently come to this same idea. I think it really shows that our traditions, faith, and holy books really do not support modern zionism.

The evil that israel has unleashed on Gaza has brought into question the impact in humanitarian terms of the holocaust. The holocaust is used in every Israeli conversation as a trump card to garner sympathy. Most people have empathy and sympathy for what Jews went through in abundance. But now they are revisiting what happened to them on to the Palestinians. Where is the sense in that? Will the world at large still allow the holocaust to be used as an excuse for paying death and destruction forward by israel? I think the link between the Nazi's Holocaust and now Zionist Israel's Gazan Holocaust is they both share a supremacist ideology that says, being superior, they have a right to take from lesser weaker nations. The dehumanization of other groups always seems to go along with supremacism. White Supremacists of the American South are another good example. It is interesting to me that no other group the Nazi's targeted for the concentration camps (Slavs, Poles, Roma, homosexuals, etc.) have felt the need to carry out their own genocide as the Zionist have. So maybe the idol being worshiped by Zionists is this false exaltation of themselves.
I read Maus when I was quite young. The overarching take away from that wonderful work of art and literature is that we don't learn from suffering, we just suffer.

Thanks so much, Naomi and Mehdi. Through my early years I loved that Jews managed to maintain an ‘us’ for thousands of years without oppressing a ‘them’. As I got older, Israel’s relationship with Palestinians always felt to me like a danger to all those thousands of years of a loving tradition, but it was always so risky to talk about it with ANYBODY.

What a fantastic discussion, I have to admit that much of the content went over my head but I learned so much in such a short time that spiked my interest to learn more, thank you Naomi and Zeteo.
i watched the seder in the streets and i cried. i am not jewish, nor am i religious, but i have never felt more divine than listening to Naomi’s brilliant words.
What frightens me the most about religious extremism is the absolute arrogance that comes from absolute certainty.
