Tyrant probably tested the tire clearance with narrow rims but also probably designed the frame with smaller tires in mind.
Kinda makes sense since most fixed gear riders still use very narrow tires by tradition and Tyrant seems like a purist-oriented brand.
Business expense well utilized! It would be cool to throw your own drum beats into videos like this regularly!
Jazz track, live music break, eminently watchable. Nice job.
Like the drum break, that’s the other hobby when I get bored looking at bike stuff
16:03 - The overlooked MVP of all bike builds on the channel over the years if that clothes line beam. This build was the final boss and the clothes line still stands strong.
I've almost completed my 2023 Hunter Bros E11 and it will come in at an estimated - 6.9kg / 15.2Lbs (carbon wheels and fork)
That purple sprocket sings against those gold decals and raw steel neutral tone . That handle bar choice surely fits the frame 100%.
I got the Legacy Raw/Gloss small 52cm frame, fits my height @ 5' 7 3/4" (172cm) went with more silver over black components and was worried it would clash/look garish. The gold chain ties it together and the silver livens-up the neutral steel.
-silver Ritchey seat post,
-Sim Works Rhonda chrome 110 stem w/ Sim Works silver spacers.
-White Industries red Headset
-Cinelli, Lola black bullhorns w red fi'zi:k tape,
-Andel 110 JIS BB
-Andel standard 165 crankset silver 48t
---Gran Comp track cog 16t, red
-Izumi V Super Toughness NJS chain, gold
-Wabi lightweight wheels/ black/silver rims 700c 32/32h w/ Gatorskin 28c tires.
My first build; only have the headset, forks, stem and seat on so far. I'll finish tomorrow.
I love this frame. It's the first non-trad (non-track oriented) fixed gear I've owned.
Some people add one link from half-link chain to regular chain to fine tune chain length.
Been away for far too long, it gives me great joy to know you have love for drums too... Now I know why the music to your videos sound 🔥 every damn time. 😊 As a bike commuter for 10yrs & making beats behind the drums for 14, everyday is 🦵 day
Right on time, I badly need this vid. Im so down since yesterday. Thanks for uploading zach ❤
Stay up brotha, you’re not alone 🙏🏼
@@gbone777 Thanks bro 🫂
This really is one of your best videos yet. Editing and pacing are a dream.
I think the final wheel setup is the way the builder intended. The cutout is not intended to run micro clearance. If the tube was not cut out you would be rubbing the seat tube, the cutout allows the wheel forward but still gives you the clearance for debris as mentioned. I understand the cool look of micro clearance but not practical!
Exactly. It's not as if every Leader 722 bike, back in the day was any different.
I totally approve the drumset as a business expense, that's a cool touch to the video !
Pretty excited for this series. Been enjoying it a lot so far!
You might want to shim out a 27.2 setback seatpost to 30.9. Especially if this isn't a permanent build. Like a real problem solvers shim though.
👉You can buy single half-links to run on standard chains.👈
I assume the cutout issue was caused by the factory measuring for the 700c rim diameter rather than the rim diameter plus the tyre width.😮
Really looking forward to the Tyrant ride video!
@10:05 I think if you put the chain on, it will line up with the cutout. Just my guess @ this point in the video since I didn't watch the whole thing yet, but it was obvious to me since there was no chain installed when you were talking about the cutout being too far back. Also in your last video I belive you mentioned that the stays are designed for fenders so there should be enough clearance especially after the chain is installed & adjusted.
Siiick music man!
For some reason I love the feeling, and the task overhauling loose ball bearing BB's. I feel the exact opposite way about hub bearings, sealed cartridge all the way
The cutout issue is almost deal breaker bad, you hit the nail by stating that having the cutout is so you slam your tire in there. Having the clearance for up to 35mm & the common norm is to go as thicc as possible means they needed to have tested that dimple for the correct placement or not have the cutout at all. crazyyy
Yup, they definitely weren't paying attention to the details. That's an easy pass. I did have a look at their product pics and the dimples *may look like they're closer to the dropouts than Zach's? Hard to tell.
the cutout isnt the issue its the dimples
I think the cutout looks better with the space between the tire and frame matching the space between the front tire and frame, which is does with the tire pulled back to where the dimple is.
Everyone take a shot every time Zach says “supple”.
dw and sonor, very good drum tast.
been wondering for months now where that purple chain ring went
where do you get the hardware to cover the holes in the frame, brake/ bottle cage holes
Loved the build, but that’s one dubious haircut!
I had a tk2 wiht a slot and didn't like the handling with the wheel snugged up. I sure miss the front wheel touching the downtube though, that thing was on rails
Yo , peeps if you ride steel you have to accept the fact its gonna be heavy. It is what it is.
Hey Zach. I'm 5'10" what size wabi is best? 31" inseam. 72 wing span. Also could you recommend any good bike shops in the East Bay area or San Jose?
I've got to still like trains that take 31.6 to see posts. One's a mountain bike one's a gravel bike
Glad your bottom bracket is working better for you. Once I learned how important it was to have my bb shell faced for an adjustable cup and cone bracket, life got easier for me. Maybe your new chromed shell had something to do with your bottom bracket working better.🤷♂️
What is the stuff you put on your seat post and why?
i have a 58cm Raleigh running as a single speed with quite a few steel components, including a steel porteur rack, running 53x19 with DA 7600s in 3cross and 32mm tires. and it only weighs a smidge over 21lbs, with the rack and a front brake! why does this frame set weigh so much?
Hugs for Gary
perfect example of why it's always preferable in a bike to just make the chainstays a little longer to accommodate wider tires
I have a better question zach, can you please explain the difference between having a long chain and a short on a bike?
Long chains are more prone to dropping, creates more lag and weight. Too short can wear out your drivetrain. I run dual rear cogs, so I need a chain length with a couple more links than I would normally run.
I think @alienrefugee51 is referring to chain *tension* rather than chain length…. The question of how chain length (assuming chain tension is appropriate) is a little different. All things being equal, getting your wheel slammed in closer to the bottom bracket shortens your wheelbase, which affects the way the bike handles (more nimble). Hence bikes made for taking tight turns (criterium racing, etc) typically have shorter wheelbases than bikes designed for long haul touring (longer wheelbase = more stable)
The drum playing would have looked more stylish with a set of stiff brushes for that jazzy number.
Nice :)
A wider rim. Ie Belgium + width with a 28-30c tire would probably fit very well.
i hear you. but 28c lol
Think your hair is the elephant in the zoom
Where can I order a wabi bike??
My hordes tell me the darkweb.
why not just add a single half link to your chain
I like sealed bottom brackets just for the stupid simplicity of it .
Poor Gary. Got striped of it's parts. Right in front of us! What's the world coming to?
FIRST!?
the cutout issue just reveals how little they care. this would have come up in an prototype testing. such a joke.
8:56 This is where the deal breaker starts 🤔 nope I’m out
Get a single half-link dummy!
Ah yes. The hair gathering on all spinning parts. kinda like a bathroom drain with all the hair clogging it up. 🤢
It's a constant issue with any moving parts. No matter how religiously you maintain a bike, it will always manage to get hair in places you dont want it - Even if you're completely bald. About 90% of the bikes that come through my shop have hair wrapped up in the derailleurs or the wheel hub dust caps.
@@SonjaTheDork 🤣
That is a rubbish frameset.
