  • This is my Otharri deck, a simple Aggro EDH deck that tries to take extra combats, proliferates counters, and makes a ton of tokens. This commander deck has served me well in my high power pods and I hope it can give you tons of joy while playing it!

    Weathered Wayfarer is not a Ramp-Card, it is Card-Advantage. It puts the Land into your hand, therefore makes your Landdrops consistent, but does not accelerate your Mana-Output. With Wayfarer alone you will cast the Commander on Turn 5. Ramp-Cards by definition are supposed to help you do that faster than turn 5.

    I have tested this deck over the weekend. I had 3/6 winrate in various pods, all 8-9 strength decks. The power is indeed amazing, the ones I lost were rather due to the failure of the player (me) not the faults of the deck itself, I also had extremely poor opening hands, had to mulligan every single time to 6-5 cards, with just 2 lands. In all games this deck kept pressure right all the time, usually resulting in an extremely tight and interesting game right until the end. My bit of advice: do not be too greedy and do not pump out everything and don't leave your mana tapped out. Always leave some open for protection. And remember your commander can go to the grave: I forgot about this twice. I am also some alterations to the land list, got some fetchlands, duals and Mutavault lying around. Also considering adding Roaming Throne: it can double up Otharri's speed.

    I picked Otharri out of love of phoenixes and a long lived desire to play a divergent transformation deck. If you're running into any draw problems, a "Symmetry Matrix", while a bit higher on the mana curve, can really help out with the amount of rebels that you will generate. It worked wonders for me and I could net 3-4 cards per attack when I was flooded with mana. And a "Hexplate Wallbreaker" really makes you get bonkers when you decide to really capitalize on those extra combats. Also, kinda cheeky, but if you run a "Sword of Hearth and Home" The one that blinks a creature and tutors for a land, you will have infinite combats with Aurelia, because you attack, get an extra combat, blink Aurelia(She now counts as a new creature) Attack again, trigger, Blink, repeat. Just remember to put the sword on anyone but Aurelia, otherwise you have no chance to equip her again (Unless you have flash equips on board)

    • @VulcanHeStan
      @VulcanHeStan Před 3 měsíci +1

      I use a Helm of the Host on Aurelia for infinite combats.
      The Aurelia with the helm attacks first, her token attacks with ehr on the second attack, the token generated during the second attack swings in on the third....
      And since I'm running Otharri with both Anim Pakal, and Krenko, Tin Street, as well as things like Iroas, Mondrak, and Ojer Taq on my end, silliness happens.

    I have loved this commander. I love some glass cannon strategies where I can rotate in a bunch of gotchas to keep people on their toes.
    A friend had always played Meren or Mairsil so it felt good to get back at him.
    I agree artifact and enchantment removal is important and my other removal has other functions. Chaos Warp and Path can ramp, the proliferate Volt.
    Every profilierate you can get feels very powerful.
    I think I have stomped every game I got a ramp, 3 lands, protection and proliferate.
    I won a lot of games I got out: Odrick, Staff of Compleation, Purphuros (dont run Cathars in our playgroup too much but when I go out that as well).
    Sometimes was unlucky with opponents having lots of fliers and go wide boards with better long game value.
    I found Tibalt's trickery to be a funny gotcha in boros often enough.
    They expect the removal; Noboby expect the Tibalts Inquisition!

    I have an Otharri deck that's actually more focused on some Parallel effects, so when I swing with Otharri, I get more than just Rebel tokens.
    For instance, I have Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin, and I have Anim Pakal, THousandth Moon in there, as well as Ojer Taq and Mondrak, since they're stickier creatures.
    A really fun card to slot in, with all the active abilities you could have, is Zirda, the Dawnwaker. Don't worry about her Companion ability at all, just play her for the 2 cost reduction on all active abilities down to 1. I replaced my Arcane Signet with her, and it's been a lot of fun.

  • @THEMithrandir09
    @THEMithrandir09 Před 2 měsíci +3

    In a world where a 10 are Tier1 cEDH decks like Kinnan and a 9 is a Tier2 deck like Brago, this deck right now is a 5 or 6 at best imho. You have the most important parts figured out, but you are still missing a good 10 to 20 changes that could bump it up to a strong 7. What you're leaving on the table the most, is using the tokens as a resource.
    I'd suggest trying the following cards:
    Ashnods Altar, does everything, it's even an extremely powerful protection option, assuming you have a rebel to tap
    Mentor of the Meek, triggers for each rebel after they're all on play, so you can ashnod half of your rebels to draw as many cards as rebels were created
    Mondrak, Glory Dominus, indestructible anointed procession? yes please
    Sword of Wealth and Power, Feast and Famine, Fire and Ice in that order. Try them, more permanent protection is good
    High Market and Homeward Path, commander centric decks should run these
    Final Showdown, does everything you need
    Grand Abolisher/Myrel, Shield of Argive, protect your turn
    Cathars' Crusade, making 3 rebels gives all creatures including the rebels 6 counters
    Gamble, Goblin Engineer, Enlightened Tutor, Ranger Captain of Eos, Kellan, the Fae Blooded, Recriuter of the Guard, Imperial Recruiter, find stuff when you need it
    Esper Sentinel, Lorran of the Third Path might also be worth it
    Bound in Silence, if this has value in your meta, try it, it can be tapped for otharri. probably the worst suggestion here tho
    Touch the Spirit Realm, protection or removal
    Archivist of Ogma, if you see enough fetches or tutors
    Professional Face Breaker, easy 3 treasures per turn once you have enough tokens
    Jeweled Lotus, faster Oharri seems good enough to run it.
    Springleaf Drum, why not?
    The One Ring, if you REALLY need more draw. Can also blink to reset counters, but you got lifelink anyway
    Land Tax, might be worth it, especially if you want to test running fewer lands
    Blasphemous Act, too cheap to pass up
    Smothering Tithe, extremely explosive in most high power metas
    These suggestions are roughly ordered by impact of the change, I wouldn't do them all, just try some of them. I'd roughly choose cards that do something similar to take out for them, as your card distribution seems roughly fine. If in doubt replace an expensive card with a cheap one (applies to mana cost and cardboard cost)
    Cards I'd replace
    Swiftfoot boots, not good if your creature already has haste
    Cut a deal, don't let em draw
    Unexpected Windfall, Big Score, Heartwarming Redemption, Seize the Spoils, Thrilling Discovery, Volt Charge, I've listed better options.
    Gisela and Aurelia, very expensive, and they are do nothings on an empty board and win more on a big board. Both are in effect just an extra combat card or extra turn card. Final chance though too risky here would be much better than them.
    Make a Stand, Unbreakable Formation, the worst of the bunch and imho a sword or just sacrificing otharri to ashnods altar and using that mana to bring it back right away seems better and costs less mana.
    Witty roastmaster, Combat celebrant, they just die without much impact
    Throne of the god pharaoh, a win more in the overloaded 2 slot
    Warleaders Call, Might be next on the cutting block, though it is good
    Overall, it's a really nice deck, I'd be exited to see how it looks in a year or two.

      Based on your analysis of the decks level. What turn should it usually win by as is?

    • @THEMithrandir09
      @THEMithrandir09 Před měsícem

      @niknaheartatak I think on average this deck should be able to kill the first player by turn 8, after that it depends on how much interaction/sweepers the other two players have and if you can dodge them. If they don't interact at all, you this deck wins by turn 9 or 10 on average by my guess. Outliers like hands with dockside can be way faster, but there's no tutors for dockside (or pretty much anything else) so this deck has a lot of variance, which I personally like at lower powerlevels.

    Lightning Bolt --> Wear//Tear or Abolish
    Destroy Evil --> Unexpectedly Absent
    Chaos Warp --> Stroke of Midnight (I've just had one too many Warps flip over a backbreaking permanent, I don't run this anymore ever)
    For protection, if you're running on-board protection like Selfless Spirit, Selfless Savior gives you a 1-mana creature that can protect just Othari.
    Also, if running Mother of Runes, why not also Giver of Runes?

    I am very curious as to why you aren't running Breath of Fury in your extra combat set up. It is insanely easy to get "infinite" combat steps with Otharri because you make more 2/2's to attach it to every combat
    I would say it's arguably better than most other extra turn cards in this specific deck. I run it in my Eowyn Shieldmaiden deck for the same reason. Easy to make a bunch of weenies to throw it on, also easy to give them trample or some sort of evasion to make sure it always connects

  • @Uefeti
    @Uefeti Před 3 měsíci

    Please consider adding Neheb, Dreadorde Champion
    It’s a great card by itself, but it is almost an aoutoinclude in a strategy like this, Neheb will help you find extra combats so much faster.
    Also Mizzix Mastery, and similar “Spell Reanimation” cards might be a musthave, you don’t have that much extra combats so re-using them is a good idea.
    I’m also sure you can swap quite a few of protection and card draw spells, because the ones you’re running are very weird.
    Blacksmith skill is somuch better than quite a few of options you gave

    Seems like a Spike build, but to each their own. I built mine as a rebel typal deck with no extra combats and a lot less protection. If you keep a rebel in hand, you can always bring Otharri back without relying on your tokens. They can also tutor out Neyali for an alpha stike. With this strategy, I run a lot of board wipes with the intention of rebuilding faster. Honestly, I found you can do whatever you want because Otharri is so cracked its almost hard to lose.

    I do think the list is strong and well tuned overall. But I do think that it is still somewhat fragile against control decks in general. I suggest running some sorts of stax too, just as another way to tax resources, so they are more limited in terms of how they can interact with Ohtarri. Blood moon is a good choice if majority of your lands are basics, especially if you are playing in high power pods against greedy manabases.
    Also, interesting that you don't really run boardwipes at all, I would personally still play a few of them, maybe 2 for this deck, you can't always hope to be the one with largest boardstate, has to be able to reset somehow. Tragic arrogance is a nice inclusion imo.

  • @SwedeRacerDC
    @SwedeRacerDC Před 3 měsíci

    If you're getting 90% wins with this, I think you're playing in the wrong pods. I will say some of it is skill. You clearly have solid deck building knowledge and lots of skill and experience. This can give you the edge of winning in the 30% range. But really winning over 40% even shows me a lack of balance in the pod. One thing I'm curious about is do you avoid pulling this out against decide you expect to lose against, because that can increase it's win percentage over 50 easily. If so, what decks do you see as Kryptonite? My friend has a slightly more casual Othari deck, but it's still a very good deck and it can win pretty fast and more than the 25% average than decks should likely have to be in the right pod

      This is how you stop any commander based deck. The commander tax once or twice on is enough to slow. If not, stop these decks. Even cEDH decks run into this problem.
      The flip side is don't recklessly cast your commander without protection. I realize easier said than done with 3 other players. Also, knowing what the preferred hand and mulligan accordingly.

    • @michaelprior1966
      @michaelprior1966 Před 2 měsíci

      You realize it has an alternate casting cost for 4 cmc by tapping just one Rebel, which most likely will be easy to do? Your opponents think twice before using single target removal, especially if you have some other protection on board or in hand.

    At a 90% winrate the first thing i'd be asking myself is "have i underestimated the power level of this deck?"
    Power level is a very ephemeral thing, you can't just say this deck has x but doesn't have y therefore it's that power level. It's very holistic & a well oiled machine that works together can be a higher power level than the sum of it's parts.
    Personally instead of just calling othari at 90% i'd be playing it against progressively stronger opposing decks until the winrate sits at or near the 25% level. Then you have the actual power level of the deck.
    It may be that othari is actually a Cedh deck that just doesn't look like a Cedh deck.
    But i think much of that is our differing outlooks on commander. If one of my decks had a 90% rate i'd be more worried than impressed, & i'd be concerned that a) i was pubstomping with that deck and/or b) other players at the table were either not getting a look in on the game or not having a good time. For me that's much more important than a 90% winrate.
