    I have that same gun in the same caliber left hand and just purchased that scope 1 week before deer season. Did not install it due to that but am working on it now. It is a great system and will print my drop tables out to make it work until I decide on the best load before I get my custom dial. I did install a new trigger which reduced it to 3 lbs, which was 3 lbs less than it came from the factory. Big difference right there. I watched this video before I purchased my scope along with information about the scope. Thanks for your video.

    Some boxes of ammo have the ballistics for the load. You may get drop from the ammo manufacture's web site or a reloading manual. What you need is the drop at various yardage. Convert the drop to minutes of angle (MOA) or clicks. The CDS dial uses MOA, so I use MOA. With the purchase of the scope you will also get one custom dial, which give you yardage (no minutes or clicks needed). For drop to minutes calculation, check out my video "Calc Bullet Drop in MOA or Clicks come up ballistics"

    You stated at the end you are now ready but I beg to differ.
    1- remove scope.
    2- install non Ruger rifle.
    3- you can now shoot groups instead of shotgun patterns! 😊

    You might consider a M Carbo replacement trigger spring. A simple install for $13.00 . My trigger pull is 2 pounds with a very clean break. Makes a lot of difference at shooting to sight in. I think it works well and is much better than replacing trigger.

  • @bgallaher77

    There is no stop. Once the rifle is zeroed, then the dial is made to be loosened and spun, without change the scope settings, so that the zero on the dial lines up the with indicator line. The dial is then tightened. Typically I look at the dial when I adjust up and down. It would be possible to feel the clicks to keep track. It takes a look at the dial to confirm the setting. If you go past zero, then a quick look will show that the dial was overturned.

    UH...AT 100 YARDS, ALL MY ROUNDS ARE TOUCHING IN THE CENTER. THE AMMO I'M USING IS REMINGTON 130gr. NOTHING SPECIAL, BUT I DO HAVE MICROMETER ADJUSTMENTS ON BOTH ELEVATION AND WINDAGE ON MY LEUPOLD 3.5-10X50, NOT THE TALL TACTICAL ADJUSTMENTS. i DO HAVE HOWEVER A SLIGHTLY HEAVER BARREL THEN THE SPORTER BARREL WITH A 26.5" BARREL AND AS i REMEMBER, IT'S A 1 IN 9 TWIST.RATE USING ONLY 3 GROVES TO STABILIZE THE BULLET AND 3 THOUSANDS CLEARANCE...CUSTOM BARREL. IN A MAUSER FN SHORT ACTION ACTION. EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE USING A RUGER, YOU CAN STILL HAVE A CUSTOM BARREL MADE FOR IT, WHICH WILL GIVE A GRATER RESULTS FOR AROUND $300 OR LESS...YOU'LL BE GREATLY PLEASED AND READY TO TAKE ON ALL CHALLENGES! P.S. I NEVER PUT IN A BDL, NEVER NEEDED IT.

    Unfortunately, the CDS knobs are factory installed. I don't know if or how much it would be in to install them. Does your VX 1 have click adjustable factory knobs? Some of those scopes have friction knobs so target adjustable knobs will not work.
    You might consider setting up the scope for point blank range. Eg, approximately and caliber specific, 2 inches high at 100 yards, so you will be on target at 250 yards, and 2 inches low at 300 yards. Use ballistic tables to get specifics.

    Let’s say that it took 6 clicks of elevation to get your zero. Then you move the turret by taking it off and putting it back on the zero. Does this mean you have 6 clicks less of elevation adjustment? Do you need to keep up with this in the case you take off your scope to sell or move to another rifle?

    With no zero stop your going to be like me miss a buck because the dial was off one complete revolution.

    • @scotteger6271
      @scotteger6271 Před 3 lety +2

      @Gage Pruett if I counted correctly this dial goes from 0 to 12 (large numbers) with 1/4 MOA clicks in between. Technically it would go to 14 (last large line) before 3 more small lines lead you back to 0.
      That would be 60 total clicks, the 61st click returning you to zero in one full rotation. Based on his chart in the video, 600 yards was like 49 clicks.
      I'm sure it's possible to get confused and go past, but you'd have to be shooting past 650/700 yards to complete one full rotation. I don't know about you but I don't shoot that far with my deer rifle...I have a long range rifle setup for that.
      So, although there is no physical "stop" at zero, if you only shoot your hunting rifle out to even 500 yards, you should never come close to surpassing a full revolution. I think another thing to consider is, this is the stock "sight-in" dial that comes attached. If you order the Custom Dial for your cartridge it will be marked differently and be less confusing, as it would show numbered yards (1 for 100, 2 for 200, 2.5 for 250, etc.)

      @bgallaher77  Před 9 lety +1

      CSPVISUALS Schmidt I just pulled out my rifle and took a second look. There does appear to be a crack between those two screws. It hasn't propagated very far. I wonder if there was a flaw in the casting? I can't imagine being able to put enough stress on the rings while tightening down the top to crack it. I believe I used a torque wrench when I installed the rings, and lapped the bottom rings. Before hunting season this fall I will be switching back to my 3.5-10x40 VX3 B&C and will take a good look at the ring at that time. Maybe Ruger will provide a replacement.

    • @bgallaher77
      @bgallaher77  Před 3 lety

      When I ordered my dial the technician at Leopold had some of those answers. Some parameters are not critical. I think altitude was target level +/- 1000 ft (it was a long time ago so do not quote me on that). You could pull up an on line ballistics calculator and move numbers around to come up with your own sensitivity analysis. I chose a dial for what I thought an typical October would be as I hunt in October. Another point. The scope has 0.25 MOA adjustments. So at extended range you are a couple inch change per click.
