The first baseman will trail the runner to second base so that there is someone there incase the runner gets stranded between 2nd and 3rd. Also incase the runner takes too big of a turn there will be someone at 2nd to receive the throw. Sometimes on balls down the right field line with a man on first the first baseman will be the trail guy in the double cut, but that is all dependent on the coach. Hope this helps.
Is picking thrown balls harder than fielding hit balls??
LOVE the rid lines, showing where each player could potentially be, and more importantly, where they SHOULD NOT be.
Thanks!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@JonFFavale Yeah keep working hard. I've seen a lot of guys not make their school teams and end up being really good players years later.
Unfortunately I didn't make my school team. I'm not sure where to go from here, but I'll keep up the hard work to get better. Thanks for the video :)
9 years later, what are you doing now?

I live in a country where baseball is not a major sport (Australia), so I really enjoyed this video, as it gave me a better understanding of the game. #baseballcoaching

Yeah....I watched you play against the Phillies about a week ago on MLB Network.....good game
Thanks for some advise I play 10u aaa baseball for the rebels and I have been struggling with we’re the ball goes
@ajs1850 thanks a lot!
on the big field (hs & beyond), it makes no sense for SS/2B to be the second cut because why would you abandon 2B? I've always seen the corners w/ 2B covering his bag & SS covering 3B in the event 3B is the second cut.
@yankeesfannyy27 Thanks a lot!
On that double cut down the line cutting to home in theory you don't want to be on the line, but the guy going home will have a big curve instead of going right down the line to home. I agree they shouldn't be right inline, but the base running is so bad because we don't work on it enough, that nobody can cut the inside of third going straight down the line. Another thing to add is I like to tell my middle infielders to look at least 2 times back and fourth to line themselves up to third or home because they have plenty of time since the ball is hit such a long way. Poor third basemans hate to talk and help them out for some reason! Lol
