      Kids WB decided not to renew X-Men Evolution. Spectacular Spider-Man and Wolverine and the X-Men had legal and financing issues resulting from Disney's acquisition of Marvel. Spectacular Spider-Man was made under a deal between Sony and Marvel, and Wolverine and the X-Men was made under a deal between Fox and Marvel. With Disney purchasing Marvel, Sony and Fox had to negotiate new deals in order to continue those shows, and they chose not to. Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Hero was canceled by Jeph Loeb, who had been put in charge of Marvel Television. Loeb replaced it with Avengers Assemble to cash in on the success of the MCU.

      @@PillarofGarbage Um, well in my Opinion, I think Wolverine and the X Men tales place after EMH. Looking at it chronically, Spectuler Spiderman was around the start of the Yostverse, while we never saw other Heores, their were plans for Ghost Rider to make an appearance in the series, than cutting too EMH, he is in his College Years clearly, but that doesn't make it the middle ground, but the concept art for S3 does, you can clearly see Cyclops and Marvel in there Silver Age Customes. Wolverine and the X Men obviously takes place after years of Experience that the team has. So I don't think the Avengers are ignoring it or unaware, it just hasn't happened yet. Plus the unmade plans for Wolverine and the X Men still had more to tell, but never did.

    The timing of Peter showing up in EMH also makes sense. He says that he's 17 years old, and with Spider-man being established as already being present for years, as well as the continuity progression within Spectacular Spider-man allowing the possibility of his appearance in EMH being a small time jump.
    Although the one thing that kinda goes against this is that the EMH Peter is clearly inspired by the Ultimate Spider-man comics. Details like his hairstyle, as well as saying that he mainly works on the website (something that the Ultimate comics did to modernize the Spider-man story) end up clashing with the established design and dynamic of Spectacular Spider-man.
    At the very least, it could be a variation of Spectacular Spider-man, or just a redesign while still being part of the same world.

      It was supposed to be Josh Keaton voicing him like he did in Spectacular, and they did all of the voice recording too, but whoever was in charge of these decisions basically made the call to bring in Drake Bell to replace the audio because Ultimate Spider-Man was either starting soon or recently did. Really disappointing. Keaton was always the better Spider-Man VAs, easily top 3 for sure.

      Spectacular Spider-Man Spidey is also based on his Ultimate Spider-Man in particular his relationship with Eddie being similar to the Ultimate comics.

    • @chiranjeevsaikia560
      @chiranjeevsaikia560 Před 2 lety +32

      In my head canon, by the time we see Peter in EMH he has already graduated high school. I believe that its taking place after the completion of all the originally intended 5 seasons of Spectacular. And he is probably in college, and while he claims to be 17, he is probably going on 18. Thus making him more involved with the bugle than he was before.
      The different look was mainly to market Ultimate Spiderman via EMH, but in my opinion the different look showed that Peter had grown up since the events of Season 2 finale of Spectacular Spiderman.
      Some common links that we have is the fact that Josh Keaton and all the actors had reprised their roles, before their audio was replaced. Spidey using the Spidey Signal like torch in his belt, that he would frequently use in Spectacular Spiderman. Apart from this we see Spidey and Cap form a bond in the episode 'Along came a Spider', and Spidey looking up to Cap as a mentor figure. This was something that Greg Weisman had originally intended to show in the original pitch for Spectacular Spiderman. But back then in 2008 he couldn't do that because of character rights issue.
      P.S. :- apart from this we get to know in the Kang episode where Spidey leads the backup avengers team that by then he has Spider tracers. And sometime back it was claimed by Greg Weisman that Spiderman would've indeed gotten his Spider tracers by s3 or so of Spectacular Spiderman.

    Possible defense for the Avengers not helping mutants.
    1. The division of government responsible for dealing with mutants is very secretive and the Avengers simply have no idea about them. (Most likely)
    2. The anti mutant groups are radical and not officially endorsed by the majority of the government and the Avengers oppose them but its all offscreen. (Fairly likely)
    3. The shows take place in the same universe at different points in time and EMH is either before or after all the mutant hate is at peak. (My opinion)
    Please add more theories or debunk mine I would like some back and forth.

    • @xstation6445
      @xstation6445 Před 2 lety +58

      Personally it doesn't bother me if they are in the same universe because the main marvel universe has worked in the same way for a long time. I mean how often does the main line avengers bother with mutant affairs if they are directly effected by it. And the inclusion of wolverine in EMH is confirmation that mutants do exist and are probably being oppressed.

    • @swiftswalow
      @swiftswalow Před 2 lety +43

      seeing how mutant hate might be a fairly accepted status quo the Avengers probably do not know how to react, they are sort of really public figures that also work with shield occasionally and try to have a good relationship with the police department and the general public, and it's not like mutants are harmless (some are literally walking bombs), it's a politically charged topic in their universe, so from a social standpoint probably they prefer not to address publicly the fact that they endorse mutants (they might even be neutral to the whole thing, after all, it is not their fight, they had no part on it on either front and at EMH they don't know that many mutants or their interactions with them are casual at best.)... plus, it's not like the avengers don't have constant problems of their own: when they could fight for civil rights, hold a conference or condemn billy, the random cashier worker who referred to kevin, his neighbor who was born with four arms, a "stinking, worthless mutie"... or stop a genocidal robot from ending all life on the planet, the choice is quite clear.
      The big terrorist mutant fights probably are mostly handled with the X-men and the avengers don't even know they are happening (because the x-men stop them before becoming something serious), and like you said, the big anti-mutant policies by the government are probably secretive, the general public did not know they were building sentinels.
      I believe is a mix between your three theories.
      I believe the timeline is something like this:
      -Earth mightiest heroes season 1 happens roughly around the same time as spectacular spider-man s1 and 2.
      -then Earth eighties heroes season 2
      -and finally Wolverine and the x-men.

    • @popburnsy3207
      @popburnsy3207 Před 2 lety +25

      4. It's basically how the originating comics handle Mutant oppression. Usually, Sentinels and mutant policing only happens in mutant focused series, so it's not actively a problem that affects or intrudes on Avengers stories that don't cross over with X-titles regularly. Which, admittedly is odd when the likes of Beast, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are a part of some of the more influential periods of Avengers comics.
      When they do cross over though, it does come up, and Captain America(insert other hero here when Cap isn't on the team ) usually steps in and chastises the mutant policing force for their actions. But then, everybody goes back to their corners of the universe and back to ignoring mutants being oppressed
      I do agree with 3 though, as Wolverine and the X-men does feel later in the timeline

    • @ianthibeault404
      @ianthibeault404 Před 2 lety +17

      My opinion has been for a while now that the shows take place at different times. Specifically, with WatX coming first, potentially including the second season if it had been developed. At this time mutant hate would be at its highest, the MRDs basically have free reign to do as they please, and only the X-Men would be around to do anything about it as people like Tony Stark and Hank Pym haven't developed the technology they need to be heroes yet. In that same vein of thought Thor wasn't yet banished to Earth. When EMH starts They have all been around individually for an unspecified amount of time, which could also explain where Spectacular Spider-Man fits into this, and it's possible that by this time the X-Men, or at least the event they take part in, have more or less fixed these issues.

All three were phenomenal. I know people hold the 90s Marvel stuff with nostalgia (although more specifically X-Men and Spider-Man since I guarantee most of those people didn't see Incredible Hulk, Iron-Man/Force Works, that terrible Avengers series etc), but if each series of the Yostverse was really given a chance to span at least 3 seasons each, I think that without a doubt that most people would believe that the Marvel animation renaissance was really the greater golden age.

    My other head-canon is that it was the X Men that led to superheroes becoming more accepted by the public. Something like what happened in Days of Future Past movie, the X Men at some point saved the world and the public became aware of this. What's crazy is that Hulk vs. movies are also canon in this universe. They even referenced Hulk vs. Wolverine animated film in one of the episodes of Wolverine & The X-Men. Not to mention the reason why I believe Spectacular Spider-Man is canon in Avengers EMH's is because originally it was planned for Josh Keaton to reprise his role again as Spider-Man in that show. He even recorded all of Spider-Man's lines in the episode Along Came a Spider, but because of Disney execs stupid decisions, they had to cast Drake Bell instead, because Ultimate Spider-Man was airing on Disney XD. I don't hate Drake Bell as a voice actor. If he is given an actual good script, like in EMH's, he can actually make Spider-Man sound like the actual character, like he is potrayed as from the original comics. But because of Ultimate Spider-Man TV show, I for some reason feel kind of annoyed hearing Drake Bell voicing Spider-Man in general.
    It's just a shame that all these great Marvel animated shows got cancelled. From 2009 to 2012 really seemed like Marvel actually wanted to create animated shows that are on the same type of quality as DCAU, but like I said, if it wasn't for Disney, their stupid decisions & greed, we could have had a full series of great animated Marvel shows that both new comers & old fans could really appreciate. MAU (Marvel Animated Universe) really felt like Marvel wanted to do something special with their animation.

      Indeed man. It is indeed the rightful MAU. To sad that it got cancelled (especially EMH) for some very stupid reasons and yeah mainly for greed. These shows were definitely the best of Marvel, and showed what Marvel could be. Heck in some aspects shows like Spectacular and EMH even surpassed the MCU.
      With all the stories that it had planned such as a possible X-Men crossover in season 3, a retelling of the Ragnarok storyline which would've probably been heavily inspired by the comics, a Civil War adaptation, Planet Hulk, World War Hulk and who knows possibly things even leading up to Hulk's son Skaar. Apart from this the introduction of the Shiaar empire, earlier mentioned by the kree supreme intelligence, characters like Hyperion, Sentry, Gladiator, Silver Surfer and some more cosmic characters, and some more involvement of the Guardians of The Galaxy. Maybe even see the mystical side of Marvel with characters like Dr Strange, Dormamu etc. Even the inclusion of the Inhumans. And the list just goes on. Then have some small hints which later lead to a grand battle in which all the heroes and all the teams Avengers, X-Men, F4 etc team up against Thanos. Man that would've just blown everything out of the park.

      I think the comics are canon, since they were written to wrap up some stuff. They kinda complete the fugitive villains stuff and also expand the Ravonna story, and also tell us what was happening with the rest of the team while Iron Man was dealing with Technovore and AIM. But yes, I see your point. Everything is just a mess. Good thing there are fans trying to give some sense

      Greg Weisman and Victor Cook, the showrunners for Spectacular Spider-Man, have never confirmed this. Though they weren't allowed to use the characters anyway, they did have specific plans for the other heroes that heavily contradicted WatXM and Avengers. Also, shoving Spectacular with the Yostverse feels disrespectful to Weisman and Cook, especially since Yost didn't work on that show.

    The last part about the Avengers being privileged and out of touch when it comes to the world of X-Men I personally think would have been a good driving internal conflict for a 2 or 3 parter teamup between the two teams.
    Would it contrast against EMH's tone? Yeah, but I think that would have made it more powerful and made the audience connect better with the Avengers.

      To me that happens in the comics when it comes to the Sentinels.
      Cap was just revived so he doesn't know what's going on, Hulk himself is always on the run so he knows how they feel but can't help, Wasp and Hank can't over step their boundaries, Tony doesn't want to be under a micro scope due to him being a businessman and him already being a one man army.
      The only thing I can think of is that this happens after W&X-Men's 1st season or towards the end of it. I think Kelly got the Mutant force to back down a little bit but couldn't do it all the way.

    I liked EMH incorporating Spectacular Spider-Man elements (at least until the new show made them re-record Peter and JJJ) but I also would have loved to see Greg Weisman, Spec Spidey's creator's Marvel Universe.
    Weisman has talked about it on his website but although he was not allowed to use Marvel characters, he had his own version of the early 60s Marvel Universe in the modern day in his head where the Fantastic Four exist but are off fighting cosmic level threats, Hulk exists only as an urban legend in the New Mexico desert, Xavier's only students are Scott and Hank, Tony has not yet gone to Afghanistan, Cap is still in the ice, etc. Legally, he just couldn't use those characters but he invented justifications for why they don't come help Spidey every time GG or Ock attacks.
    He said if he was given the rights to the larger Marvel universe, he would first do a Spidey meets Human Torch episode and then later Spidey meets Hulk, being cautious and sparing about how many crossovers they do so it doesn't become Spider-Man and His Spectacular Friends.
    But since none of that happened, EMH low key shepherding it into their universe was a cool touch. I wish we could hear that Josh Keaton audio!

    I remember when Spider-Man was confirmed to appear in EMH I was so excited at the time. I thought maybe they could get Josh Keaton to reprise his role, I was apart of the bring back Spectacular Spider-Man movement at the time, still am but I thought it would be a nice nod to the fans. The last time you get see that version of Spidey and he met up with the Avengers. Unfortunately they got the other guy which sucked because he was getting his own new series but Disney wanted brand unification, which eventually led to the cancellation of EMH but I'm not getting into that right now. Then I found out within the month of the episode airing confirmed via blog post that Josh Keaton did initially get the role and recorded for it but it was later given to the other guy. As a fan I was disappointed to say the least, I thought ''Really Disney you couldn't have at least given us that?'' I remember watching it thinking how these lines were consistent with Spectacular Spider-Man not Ultimate Spider-Man, and Josh Keaton would have delivered the lines better. I've honestly thought about getting Josh Keaton via cameo to redub those episodes some day. In my head cannon at the time I did think the shows and two movies were connected with the exception of Fantastic Four series but this confirms it. Great video by the way.

The story telling isn't has intricate as EMH with multiple plot threads being slowly added and teased, but it does introduce you to characters that will become more important later on. In season 1 each episode is a monster of the week but characters like Eddie Brock, Felicia Hardy and Norman Osborne are introduced as recurring characters to set up future storylines. The other seasons appear to tell one overarching story per season. They also adapt classic comic arcs like EMH too.

    Christopher Yost was on FIRE in the 2000s. He still is, as evidenced by Thor: Ragnarok.

    I don’t remember when but I remember a post by Christopher Yost saying Spectacular Spider-Man is in the same world as Earths mightiest heroes

      Indeed there was such a post. He even commented that the episode Along came a Spider is in essence a Spectacular Spiderman episode.

    I think that the Avengers ignoring all of the bad stuff that happens to the X-Men, and only calling them why they need their help, was mentioned when Captain America asked Cyclops why the X-Men hadn’t told the Avengers about their resurrection capabilities in AXE: Judgement Day

    Growing up I always imagined this universe being Wolverine and the X-Men, Spectacular, and EMH with Planet Hulk, Hulk Vs., and Next Avengers being canon on the movie side.
    Never saw enough Fantastic Four until recently, don’t know how I feel about it being in this universe lol, but great video nonetheless!

      I don’t think most fans would consider the FF show to be a true part of this universe, but it has a few similarities with the others so I thought it deserved a mention :)

    9:51Actually, while FF world's greatest heroes have some new stories, they also adapt some from the Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, including "The return of Doctor Doom" (in which Reed and Doctor Doom switch bodies) and ""Captives of the Deadly Duo" (in which Doom sends the Baxter building to space).

    I like to think that Fantastic 4 show was part of the same universe as X-men Evolution. Their writing styles match up better there.

    I mean people are talking about spectacular not being canon to emh, but number 1
    Josh Keaton recorded his lines for Spider-man in EMH but due to disney stupidly they let drake bell do spider-man.
    the stuff about his design being different cant just be chalked down to different animation style, I mean Logan in EMH and Wolverine and The X-Men have different suits, but people still don’t seem to mind. also peter still has the same dimple and hair so… yeah

    Actually Greg Weisman confirmed that Spectacular Spiderman and avengers EMH are not set in the same universe. (And I believe him) he said “ We weren’t in the continuity with any other series, PERIOD. We have our own plans for how rest of the marvel universe fit into our spectacular corner, but since weren’t allowed to use any Spidey related characters, those ideas were largely moot. But if you check the archives you can get a taste of them.” And that what he said. I rest my Case

      Weisman and Fine clearly disagreed about it, then - check out the interview I linked in the description!

      @@PillarofGarbage No disrespect man but Interviews don’t help In my case it’s fine you wanna make it spectacular Spider-Man head-canon same with the fantastic four show (and believe me I love those shows to) but Like Jonah said “Prove it” I got my evidence, Wiseman and Victor Cook has their own plans for the other Marvel heroes in Spectacular. (And plus Yost wanted to use Josh Keaton as a nod to Spectacular )

    Damn, I started reading comics with Yosts X23 comics series. Then learnt he had a hand in WatXM, but now watching this video I didn’t realise how much creative stuff his done in this universe. Also I’m years too late to this video
