fire can’t go through walls. it’s not ghosts. ghosts can’t go through doors. it’s not fire. and i’m sure there was an ep with a photo of them being taken by a fire. first quote- when the fire happened. second quote- while they are in pergatory. which is why they all seem to be stuck there for so long (sans pierce). and both statements ended up being wrong. the show is their season 6 of lost, but worth watching.

Normally a big fan of your work but I think you're way off the mark here. Ironically I think your own confirmation bias is very evident in the video. You've mentioned that there are multiple hour long breakdowns of critical discussion of just the first episode, but you didn't actually address anything any of those videos discussed. Instead you posted the screenshots of things that frame critics of the show as racist and sexist; while at the same time saying that the fire in space is the only thing that people are clinging to. I remember The Last Jedi social media discussions. There were a million people discussing how they thought it was tremendously out of character for Luke Skywalker to consider murdering his nephew in his sleep, but the counter argument was always, "You must be one of those people that attacked Kelly Marie Tran". Grouping every single person into either the "Liked the movie therefore they're a Democrat" or "disliked the movie therefore they're a Republican" culture war nonsense. I'm Australian and nobody talks like that here. Its almost exclusively the USA where most of the CZcams and social media discourse takes place. Part 3: Fire is Confirmation Bias. You start of discussing that you have a bias because you've covered the racism and sexism so much in Star Wars that you see people criticizing the fire as confirmation bias. That is your confirmation bias. That someone is critical of something you like (or wish to like? As you seem to be holding off on giving an opinion until you see how it plays out), therefore they're biased. But to paraphrase you, the answer is much more mundane. Fire in space is very silly and breaks verisimilitude. You play MANY different shots from earlier Star Wars projects where there is fire in space. But you only play a couple of frames of it, because if you'd played more than a second or two it is revealed that we either don't see what happened after the initial burst or explosion, or we quickly see that the fire is almost immediately extinguished. Whether this behaves as we would expect it to in space or not isn't the point. Its that upon seeing it our verisimilitude is not broken. Is there enough oxygen in an X-Wing that when it gets shot and explodes there is a burst of fire which is immediately extinguished? We don't know but we don't look at it and go, "I'll need to see the schematics on that X-Wing before I can continue to buy into the story we're watching" because its believable enough. Watching a Death Star explode from the original trilogy and the fire almost immediately goes out and the wreckage and dust remains. They did make the fire stick around longer in the Special Editions and trust me, that was complained about at the time. But an open flame, flickering like a camp fire in zero gravity and a vacuum has a very different reaction. Like, "WTF? Is this a dream sequence? Aren't they in space?". The exerts you've shown in your video show lingering shots of it, which none of the other examples have. A shot can be beautiful, it can have meaning, it can be a motif, a metaphor, foreshadowing or whatever you want it to be, but if it doesn't make sense to a MASSIVE chunk of the audience, its not confirmation bias. Its an actual issue that people have noticed. I'm sure the CZcams culture war personalities will add it to their list of many complaints and such, but individual CZcams commentators are NOT the general public. Maybe its THEIR confirmation bias, but its not the general viewing public's.

This is mostly unrelated to the key point of the video, but the fact that ships and presumably the death star don't get instantly vaporized and instead explode in all directions is terrifying. None of that shrapnel, from the largest chunks to the tiniest sliver, will decelerate till they hit something. One exploding ship could theoretically cause a chain reaction of failing ships. On top of that if you're a freaking fighter pilot in space flying at breakneck speeds and your ship stops working, you're just going to keep going, pretty much at that speed, and we've seen these things crash into each other. could you imagine an explosion the size of a fucking moon, where the pieces are all flying at basically the same velocity they launched at... how the hell does anyone just... fly away from that? AND THEY DID IT TWICE. Galactic Cruisers turned to space debris. They better have some fancy technology to clean that up, otherwise every habitable sector that's ever been contested with a space dogfight will become nightmarish micro asteroid fields.

Props to this show for bringing back the Neimodians though! I was psyched because they were so ridiculously racist in the prequels I thought we wouldn’t see them in live action again.

Off-topic but for a franchise that mostly takes place in space, it's crazy how rarely we see characters wearing space suits. That actually stood out to me more than the fire.

Yeah man, most of the jokes aren't "haha science = funny," idk who on earth is laughing at the actual scientific definition of something. It feels, most of the time, that the joke is about how awkward the character is for thinking this is an appropriate time to be saying the definition. The Big Joke doesn't feel like "haha science," it feels like "Whups, that's not what you say in this situation!" "That's not what you do in this situation!" which is the exact element sitcoms are made of

I don't mind the fire in space "issue" that much. For me, the show as a whole is a mixed bag for Star Wars. I've only seen the first two episodes. Some scenes were pretty cool, fights are decent, but then the dialogue goes from decent to being terrible in the next scene and then decent again in another scene. Like the whole of the bar scene where Mae gets the poison from her dealer friend just felt too long and the dialogue just felt lifeless and unrealistic to be had between two characters in any story, let alone star wars. I'd have to watch that scene again to be more specific. And there isn't really any character I've flet genuinely intrigued or interested outside of Sol. The acting feels fairly flat to me and the dialogue in general doesn't help against that feeling. Sure, I shouldn't expect the best dialogue in Star Wars since even Lucas didn't write the best in the prequels. But after being spoiled by the writing in Andor, the Acolyte feels like a massive step down in most regards of production quality.

By all due respect but your video misses the point. The camp fire in space is just the cherry on top and the hook for the mockery. "The Acolyte" is overall story technically a catastrophe.

I have no bias when it comes to Apple because I know that they’re scummy as hell just as much as every other smart device company. I personally believe that people are interpreting the commercial differently and they’re framing it as a fact when it’s all nothing but bad timing. I’m honestly kinda surprised that a Apple representative apologized for something so simple when they normally don’t care, it almost tells me that Apple is desperate when it comes to marketing new devices and now they have to worry about the opinions of sensitive and overly emotional consumers. I thought the ad was great but interpreting it differently other than its intended meaning shouldn’t be presented as fact or conspiracy. I do agree though that this feels like a red flag that todays AI is doing what it always has been doing for a long time, which is the fact that it only takes information that it is given and it uses it to create something unique *but* it can’t making anything new and that wouldn’t be an issue if it wasn’t advertised as something to replace talent and creativity with.

Regarding Drinker's comments: Like you said, there are things that have been in the mystery genre for a long LONG time, including (and often introduced) by those considered to be the "greats". Sherlock Holmes? He's a Mary Sue character who always just happens to know some obscure thing that just happens to apply to the case. I remember one story where he solves the case by determining what type of tobacco the culprit used by studying the ash. He even says something like "Watson, you know that essay I wrote about types of tobacco ash". There is a comedy movie called "Murder by Death" where the characters are all parody versions of famous detective novel characters (Poirot, Ms Marple, Charlie Chan, etc). They are invited to a dinner at a mansion by a reclusive man and given a murder to solve. Now, it's a comedy, so there's a WHOLE lot of stuff I'm skipping, but at the end, each of them come out with who they think the killer is and they are all wrong. The actual culprit gives the following lines when explaining why they did it, and I think it exactly shows how the mystery genre has been "cheating" for a long time: "You've tricked and fooled your readers for years. You've tortured us all with surprise endings that made no sense. You've introduced characters in the last five pages that were never in the book before. You've withheld clues and information that made it impossible for us to guess who did it."

These grifters are destroying what little media literacy there was online, and that makes it so much easier for crap shows that over explain everything to exist. Shit sucks. Not as much as the racism and misogyny, but still, damn.

I recently realized that my kid doesn't know what a leitmotiv is, and misunderstood it to the point where he (having never seen Star Wars) thought that the Imperial March was signaling the good guys. We just watched the original trilogy yesterday, and hopefully he understands a little better.

God I hate Star Wars discussion on CZcams. and a large portion of the fan base tbh, I like legends too but I hate the fans that practically worshipped it and hate the new canon even if a good portion of legends was honestly not that great.

I'm a new CZcamsr and in an early video I committed the heresy of saying something that wasn't an expression of unequivocal hatred for Rings of Power and OMG the comments on that video! My Acolyte jury is also still out. I was cautiously optimistic after eps 1 & 2, but I thought ep 3 was difficult for reasons having to do with child acting/directing and character motivations not making much sense). I subbed. The thing about fair use is, it never meant you could use footage from the movie in your review. Seriously if the lawyers ever decide to pursue it all of the CZcams media commentary genra could be erased and it'd be because YT TOS was never strictly legal.

That's a great video you got there. Here is something I just thought about: one of reasons for choosing a black actor could have been the need for pair of good acting twin kids for the story. And I think the kids are quite good so far. Is that obvious enough to not note that the witch mark is Yin and Yang symbol? There's a big focus on pairs in the show (twins, their song, chanting, moons), and I have seen anyone to mention that yet.

Amanda Stenberg is unfortunately one of those actors who has been in so many awful teen movies portraying an unbearable Gen Z stereotype that I simply cannot watch anything with her in it. Katherine Langford, Kaitlyn Dever and Jacob Elordi are also on that list.

I watched it blind thanks to young sheldon, and honestly I really enjoyed it. Maybe it's not the pinnacle of TV, but it is fun, aside from the occasional cringing at a dated joke (mostly at elon musk and the two or three weird trans jokes, lol)
