WARNING: This video has graphic content that may be disturbing to some viewers.
Herman Webster Mudgett, better known as H.H. Holmes, (May 16, 1861 to May 7, 1896) was a con artist and bigamist who was one of America's first serial killers. Sometimes referred to as the "Beast of Chicago," Holmes is believed to have killed somewhere between 20 and 200 people. He killed many of his victims in a specially constructed home, which was later nicknamed the "Murder Castle." Apprehended in 1894, he was hanged for his crimes two years later.

The mom to one of my grade school friends decided to trace her family tree. She discovered that about three or four generations back on her mother's side, her great-great grandparents had changed their last name to Mudge after it had been Mudgett. Then she discovered that her great-great uncle... is H.H. Holmes. Said my friend's mom, "I know my mother's family is weird, but I didn't think they were *that* weird!"

She did know him tho, her husband and Holmes ran many schemes together. Plus she thought she was about to get paid off from her husband's life insurance that Holmes had. My guess is she thought this would ensure he would need to meet up with her again to at least get the kids back. Also, if I remember right they were wanted, her having no kids and him having a few to travel with created a disguise for them both

I've written them 2 or 3 emails stateing I want to keep giving the same 'upped' amount and want to give them my new password, but I want to be sure they know I want nothing to do with Discord, after downloading that the 1st time I can't find it in my phone to take off!! So I HAD to down load the Discord gamer app, then shortly after that I found myself SIGNED OUT of Goggle...I didn't do that!! SO who did?
My phone isn't activated right now so I can't use it as a 'phone', duh, thanks to paying phoney late charge fees the nasty apt manger's tactics, plus she keeps raising my rent without me having gotten pay raises. She'll be delt with in the not too distant future, she doesn't know I've gone to outsiders for help.😉
I AM NOT LEAVING PAYTRON, I'll try and get this mess sorted out. But if I RE-GIVE my bank details (they already have them) HOW do I know I'm not giving a HACKER my bank details, maybe the same hacker that sgined me out of Goggle ?!! ( I finely got a password change & straightened out there)
What I'd like to do is have another small bank account to use for Paytron stuff but my apt manager would UP my rent if she knew I had a savings account!! , she already did that, and I wasn't getting any MORE $, she doesn't want you to have anything to fall back on. Hud makes folks do a reassessment each yr, and they have their nose in any bank acc. info, my manager made me go through 3 one after the another this past year!!! I had to re-pay the bank for the bank statements, I WON'T do that again. It's really hard not having a car. ANYWAY I'm only doing one reassessment from now on, and I'm not leaving her office till I get copies made of my bank statements !!! Live & learn ! In time she'll be answering for all this. I can't move untill she's delt with, her phoney late charge fee stuff means now wherever I would move to I'd HAVE to have the FULL deposit/rent up front, then also have to pay to move.
Sorry for 'rambling!! But all this might help some other folks who are trying to live in a Hud run apartment. They (apt. managers) luv to play their games.....I WILL write a book about it one day.😂😁

The "expert interviews" on some of those take too much time away from the story. There were several details I have not heard about. Every one of them said it had burned down, so that was interesting to hear it wasn't. I've always loved this kind of history. My husband calls it useless but I call it fascinating. This presentation is most excellently done! I became aware of H.H. Holmes when I saw the Netflix move: "America's First Serial Killer" a few years ago. I've been fascinated with this story ever since. The video here provides many more details about his life that I was unaware of; so thank you for that as well. Clearly this was a very sick and disturbed man, but I cannot ignore the fact that it takes a brilliant mind to design and build this "Death Hotel" the way he did. It was so intricately designed, this had nothing to do with his medical training or background. Clearly he used his genius for evil instead of good.

I can hazard a guess. Mostly because it would be deemed "mysoginist", "anti-feminist" and "glorifying violence against women". It would have to have a clear moral message at the end that "crime doesn't pay" or something. Frankly. that's for the best. I have seen what modern cinema did to Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express" (director: Kenneth Branagh aka Gilderoy Lockhart from Harry Potter films) to make it as progressive in its philosophies as possible, rewriting history and removing any semblance of common sense just so everyone feels included. It was a detective story, yes, but set in historical setting that you cannot change willy-nilly. Yet they did. I tried to turn my brain off and enjoy the show, but couldn't. The thought that cinemas are now closed due to COVID-19 and cannot spew such garbage anymore makes me happy. Rant over.

HH Holmes has always fascinated me. This was the best done video I've seen on him; filled with information I'd never heard before. I was shocked to see he had worked at Norristown State Hospital. I was born and raised not far from Norristown, PA and have actually been on the grounds a few times as I worked in the mental health field. I even interviewed for a job there, but it was not exactly a place I wanted to work. It is a huge complex and "creepy" doesn't even begin to describe the place. It is notorious and everyone from that area has a spooky story about "Norristown", as it's simply known. Interestingly, another notorious facility is not far, Pennhurst. If you're not familiar, there are many documentaries on youtube. It was a facility for intellectually and developmentally disabled and the mentally ill. I had a few patients who had been there their entire lives whom I cared for in a group home following the closing of Pennhurst. Anyway, thank you once again for a wonderful video!!!

I read about a theory that he was Jack the Ripper. Somehow, I don't think so. Jack the Ripper was more methodical, he used the same m.o. to kill his victims. H. H. Holmes used many different methods, so it doesn't add up to him being Jack the Ripper.

Read “Devil in the White City”
“The book is set in Chicago in 1893, interweaving the true tales of Daniel H. Burnham, the architect behind the 1893 World's Fair, and Dr. H. H. Holmes, a pharmacist and serial killer who lured his victims to their deaths in his elaborately constructed "Murder Castle". The Devil in the White City is divided into four parts, the first three happening in Chicago between 1890-1893. Part four of the book takes place in Philadelphia circa 1895. The story of Daniel Burnham, his building of the fair and the struggles he overcomes forms one plot line. The other, a vivid and very different plot line, is that of H.H. Holmes, a mentally unstable pharmacist/doctor who forms a plan to use an abandoned lot across the street from his pharmacy to lure and kill multiple victims.”

Pretty horrific for sure, his fascination for death started early kinda ingrained in his mind, its very creepy how he constructed that hotel with hallways rooms to nowhere go in and not come out alive, then gassed or left to starve those were the more cruel slower methods for the death of his victims, then sending down a chute to the dooms day basement, and so many he killed i imagine many more then were found remains of, what seemed weird is he strangled to death on the hanging rope instead of the neck breaking, seems he got his just deserts for what he did, it is hard to believe anyone committing such terrible crimes, but i guess his obsession for death gave him no empathy for human life or anything else. it was a good story very detailed i think thats why i like your channel best, the great details, thanks for another good story,

As much as I had considered myself well versed on H.H. Holmes, I had never heard of the exhumation by his great-grandson. Many thanks for adding a new layer to what I know of this vile killer.

What a bizarre account, very strange character, no doubt the devil himself has Holmes employed in diabolical activities in hell. Amazing he wasnt caught earlier, made the Ripper look like a choir boy ! What an extraordinary power he exerted over people, especially women who seemed to just sacrifice themselves and their children to him !
    He was pure evil.
I love the attention to detail, animated old photos and real news sheet copy that goes into each of these productions, and your unique, compassionate response to the story in the "post script" section, that reminds us that mercifully and by the grace of God, such extreme narcisists are rare so the stories still shock us, but make us grateful to the people who do show love and kindness.
Keep 'em coming Mr O. We love ya !

@@ObsoleteOddity As I may have mentioned looks like youtube stopped my notifications for a while, so what a joy to rediscover an old channel in these days of lockdown. I am sure wierd stuff is going on right now that in a few years time will be on channels like this.
Although the content is creepy, there is such a lot of love and humanity on this channel that it always makes me thankful, like meeting a friendly but eccentric relative.

Ah yes, I remember this one from the original Patreon posting but was well worth a second viewing. This guy was a real "piece of work"! A monster devoid of compassion and absolutely no mercy at all. This brings a thought to mind, who has the greater fault. The monster or the creator of this monster? I think while the abuse accounted to his childhood may have been the catalyst that started him down this path, that the elements had to be present, to begin with. This guy wanted an easy way to get the wealth he wanted and didn't care how he got it. True, he worked for those skills he used to accomplish it, but he chose to abuse those skills in a macabre way to get that wealth. Gives definite clarification to the saying, Money is the root of all evil. It's not the money that's evil, but what one is willing to do to get the money. And obviously, he was devoid of any restrictions in his methods. However, to say he had an "insect mind" I think would be an insult to the insect. LOL! Alien!? No doubt, to the sane mind, but shows up repeatedly in history. So sad that so many fell victim to his schemes before he was caught. A good posting then and still shines now, Oddie. Was glad to see it again!
