In the late 1960s when I was around 10 years old we had a cat with CH. He was very wobbly. We didn't know what was wrong and we weren't well off so we never took him to the vet. He never seemed like he was in pain. We took good care of him. Once he got hurt and outside of his mouth swelled up.. i drained the pus and kept applying bacitracin. He healed up well. I would hand feed him a lot because it took him forever to eat and he'd get the food all over. We fed him wet food because he lost some teeth from falling down. He drooled alot. When we'd call him he'd come running as fast as he could but sometimes during the excitement he'd flip backwards. He was very determined and he didn't think anything was wrong.
I remember he once was trying to mate with another cat and he kept jumping over her and ending up on the ground. She would just stand there. He wasn't successful but at least he tried. When his mother had another litter he'd nurse with the new kittens. My dad took all the kittens to the humane society when they were able to eat cat food. We kept Charlie and his mom. He lived over 10 years. I wish we had known more about his condition. I think if we did take him to the vet back then they'd probably suggest that we put him down. I'm glad we kept him.

@wabbajocky8235 Cerebral Palsy isn't really a "disease" because one can't catch it from someone who has it. It's more of an umbrella term for a family of physical disorders where the cerebellum is messed up in some way. Causes can range from case to case. Mine was a brain bleed as a newborn back before they came out with those blood clotting shots they give to babies nowadays.

Hi! I recommend you can cover a specific area of your bedroom or bathroom with dog pee pads. You can limit the area and bring her back consistently ( like training a dog) or leave her there contained so she feels the difference of peeing in bare floor and on top of a pad. Get the cheap masking tape and try replacing the pads or part of them if it is worth saving the unused side. The wobbly cat that I am fostering is a sweetie and I had to take her inside during the last Hurricane season. They should be inside all the time or under supervision if going out.

You absolutely MUST know, as an owner of a “wobbly cat,” they are completely normal w the exception of their gait. A yr ago I adopted Button from a gigantic rescue in Houston. She was dropped off, thank God, at a shelter, abused, and full of kittens in her 1st heat. She is a blue point Siamese , and once her owners saw she was “deficient “ they threw her out and a shelter picked her up. Fast forward to today; I’ve had her a year. She is my absolute HERO bc she lets nothing get in her way to being a happy little cat in my household. We snuggle together always, and she knows how to use the steps I’ve set up for her. If ANYBODY IS STILL READING THIS..,,.adopt a “wobbly cat.” They will fill you w so much love. I promise it.

This Wobbly cat Syndrome is called Cerebella Hypoplasia. It is something that is a disability that a cat can live with forever and they are the happiest cats ever. There is also three different levels of CH too. There is the one that a cat can walk pretty much normal with a hint of CH, a mild type that a cat can walk but has some balance issues, and third the worse where they don’t walk at all and need assistance in feeing, taken place to places and litter box too even though they do try to get where they want to on their own which is good. This place that takes in these cats is such a beautiful place and for that, I’m thankful to them for it and also am pleased too that there are people out there who do love these cats enough to love them and give them a forever home. Shameful most cat owners "love" their cats, but only if they are healthy. As sin as they get sick or old and need special care, they rush to put them down or hand over to "someone" else. Please don't get any animals if you are not willing to put in the work in case of illness or old age.

You can use furniture or boxes to build the enclosure and train the cat to go to that spot . Also have a damp towel at hand in case she stepped on poop or pee, mine doesn’t need it but like for me to clean her with a damp towel every now and then.

We had a kitten that was dumped at our house. While trying to find a home for it. She got pregnant and had 2 kittens. One had wobble syndrome and was the most loveable kitten that would snuggle and purr like crazy.

that is called Cerebellar hypoplasia ("CH") is a neurological condition in which the cerebellum is smaller than usual or not completely developed.[1] It has been reported in many animal species.[2]
This article has some general information, but focuses primarily on CH in the domestic cat.
In cats, this condition is also called "Wobbly Cat Syndrome." An animal with CH may be called ataxic or be described as a "bobble-head."

Wobbly cats are in the sweet-spot: they're cute, but they're too awkward for the clout-chaser type who want a Quirky Pet they can neglect, so nobody tries to make more on purpose.

To everyone feeling bad abt giggling at these cats: it doesn't make you a terrible person if you think the way they walk is a little funny!!! As long as the cat isn't in pain, distressed, or with a bad quality of life there's no problem in thinking they look a little silly when they wobble. As long as we don't start purposely breeding more cats with this disability then its okay to giggle!! The cats in the video look happy and living their best lives too which is great :)))

When I adopted my wobbly boy, no one had a clue that anything was wrong with him. He used to "sway" his hips when he was younger and we'd call him "The Model" but as he got older, it got worse and we knew something was wrong. Fast forward a few years and he's had a great life. He's about 8 now and the sweetest cat ever.

It's disappointing that this report doesn't explain how these cats come to be with this disorder. Cerebellar hypoplasia most commonly occurs in kittens when their mother contracts feline panleukopenia virus and passes the infection to the kittens in utero. This is a virus which a vaccination exists for. the amount of CH kittens would be greatly reduced if people vaccinated their animals. While it is becoming more understood soooo many of these cats are euthanised because of their disorder and shelters inability to care for high needs animals. This report should really be encouraging people to vaccinate their pets rather than laughing and saying oww how sweet at them falling down.

We unofficially adopted the neighborhood outside cat. She got pregnant and showed up one day with just one kitten with her. Looked like she just birthed it a day or two before. Turns out the kitten has this handicap, and pretty bad too. They’re definitely outside cats, though they come in they grew up and prefer outside, especially the mom. I’m scared now because they say they should ONLY be kept inside. I don’t even know what we’re going to do when we have to move.

I have a semi-wobbly cat. The diagnosis was congenital vestibular disease/disorder. I’m just having a hard time being certain she isn’t just living with a permanent case of “the spins” like someone who has had too much to drink. That sounds awful.

Cats with mild or moderate CH (cerebellar hypoplasia) stand a chance to have a normal life. Cats with severe CH don't stand a chance at a normal life. They can't get up and go. They have to be helped everywhere and helped to do EVERYTHING, including poop and pee! It's unfair to the animal and a 24/7 burden to the owner! Cats with severe CH should STILL BE put down humanely!!!
