To prevent gerrymandering, electoral boundaries in Canada, Australia, and the UK are set by non-partisan officials, not by the government of the day.

In Australia, the electoral boundaries are gerrymandered for the conservative party just like other places. As an example, the boundaries for Dutton's electorate have been recently changed to make it more likely that he will get in next election as his vote was borderline in the last election.
In the US, the redistricting policies vary state by state. Some have non-partisan councils.
They are doing it on the UK at the moment, boundary changing so the Tories will always win

These are the kind of stories that really piss me off. Taking away the power of someone's vote is not something that should be tolerated by anyone on either side. Government reform is seriously needed at the federal level to make sure everyone's votes are equal.
They really have both ends covered concerning elections: make it an uphill battle for Democrats to get elected (gerrymandering, voter suppression, and purging voter rolls) and strip power from the upcoming Democrats who happened to win. What a dastardly bunch.

The only way for the USA to go back to a real democracy is to get rid of the districts/gerrymandering and also get rid of the bipartisan system. A poly-party system with multiple parties for both conservatives and liberals is much better. The 2016 presidential election clearly proved that two parties is way too few to chose from

In Alaska, the new governor- Mike Dunleavy (R)- has instructed all at-will state employees to submit their resignations for review. They will look through for who, as they put it, 'wants to work with the new administration' (not a direct quote) and accept the resignations of anyone who doesn't. Basically, this reads as everyone either has to pledge loyalty to him or be fired. This isn't just the cabinet, which tends to get fired every time there's a change in party- this is the assistant district attorneys, public defenders, and loads of other positions which are not and _should not_ be political. These are the members of the justice system losing their jobs for their political affiliations, essentially stacking the deck in favor of the GOP when hot-button issues go to court.
Several people have already lost their jobs just for being outspokenly liberal.
Oh, and if you want to keep your job, it's _your_ responsibility to submit a letter explaining why you shouldn't be fired without cause (which boils down to "saying you support the new regime") to Dunleavy's _campaign website,_ which is pretty much definitely illegal.
