    This is great. Just one question, after all the settings changed, either missed it or didn't understand but how do you then set UP the time lapse. I was playing with the night time lapse and it's confusing so I thought I'd try your method. The night time laps throws me off because I'd set it at 4 seconds and 15 minutes long yet it says the entire thing would amount to 3 seconds. Scratching my head. FYI - I want to film the eclipse. Thanks ahead for pointers.

    I'd really like to see shutter speed control between 1/125 and 2 seconds. As far as I've seen in time lapse modes the lowest you can go is 1/125 in photo or Timelapse modes, or in "Night Time Lapse" you can do 2+ seconds. I prefer having some blur in time lapses, so I gravitate towards slower shutter, but a 1/2 or 1/4 second would be ideal for a lot of situations. Why not allow this, Go Pro??

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes, the slower shutter speeds are great for motion blur and smoothness in a time lapse. I hope to see GoPro add more options for the slower shutter speeds in more photo/time lapse modes where this is advantageous.

    Hey I posted this comment on a video you made about exposure lock but it's more about using shutter speed + ND filters to eliminate flashing on long time lapses: After watching your EXCELLENT videos, I upgraded to the 12 (now have several) to use ND filters + Shutter speed in Photo mode to eliminate flashing on sunsets/rises. Did a test yesterday, looks AMAZING, but still got flashing as the sun was almost gone. Would exposure lock fix that? If I am setting shutter speed, not sure if exposure lock would do anything?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před měsícem

      Thanks, I responded on your other comment, but short answer here in case it is helpful to anyone else is yes, exposure lock is helpful.

    But was it possible to use static parameters in the night Timelapse for capturing a day Timelapse?

  • @Crotoua
    @Crotoua Před 7 měsíci +1

    Great advice, thank you ! Though that means that you can’t make a continuous day to night or night to day timelapse, or can you ?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před 7 měsíci +2

      You’re welcome! You can still do a continuous day to night or continuous night to day time lapse, but for doing that I recommend using time lapse mode. You’d keep the shutter set to Auto and want to do an interval around 15s-30s to enable the camera to slow the shutter speed enough for the proper night time exposure portion of the time lapse.

    • @Crotoua
      @Crotoua Před 2 měsíci +1

      Sorry I missed your answer ! Thanks for the tip. The ideal would be to set the shutter speed and to be able to change it during the time-lapse, like with a traditional camera, but I don't see a way to do that. GoPro Labs maybe ? @@GreatDayForAHike

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před 2 měsíci +1

    Nice video mate. But why the aperture number of my GoPro 12 shown in lightroom is f2.5? Also, it drives me crazy as it can only set the lowest shutter speed at 1/125s, but if you choose auto shutter speed in photo mode, Hero 12 has the ability to use much slower shutter speed (I've seen 1/8s or 1/45s in lightroom). Any workaround to have more controlled shutter speed like the way Action 4 does?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před 6 měsíci

      With the aperture value it’s possible there is some type of error with the read-out of data between the GoPro files and Lightroom.
      Yes I know what you mean with the shutter value. I wish GoPro would enable the ability to adjust it further and go slower! When I last checked I didn’t see a QR code yet that would enable more manual control for this. I was hopeful this would be added with the GoPro Labs firmware as an option. I’ll continue to keep an eye on this and see if it gets added. I don’t see why it couldn’t be done from a technical standpoint so hopefully GoPro will consider enabling this.

    For someone looking to get a GoPro just to shoot time lapses. Is it worth getting the 12 or should I look for the earlier models like the 11 or 10 for a discounted price? I’m looking to time lapse monsoon thunderstorms in the desert SW.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před měsícem +1

      You can get great results with the 10 and 11 as well. I do recommend the ND filter kit so you can force the GoPro to use slower shutter speeds. This will give you even better results.

    • @firevalleyphoto
      @firevalleyphoto Před měsícem +1

      @@GreatDayForAHike is there a ND filter you would recommend for capturing thunderstorms and lightning during the night and day?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před měsícem +1

      @firevalleyphoto During the day an ND8 or ND16 would probably work well since the sky tends to get pretty dark when a thunderstorm hits. At night time an ND filter is likely not necessary but any lighting at night will overexpose the footage if the ISO and shutter speed are not low enough.
