Awwwwwwwww Quito... So beautiful Quito.I miss so much Ecuador.
Ok.The guy basically is a farmer with a wide experience. He basically explain that is possible to cure the earth by making some modifications on the land.As you see in the video. The guy was able to make those pools...Those pools are not sealed at the bottom. That's means that the plants and trees at the botton of the land will get the water whenever they need it. He even show wild life and even fish in his land. I love it.

In the first part they are talking about how soil erosion leads to greater silting of the riverbed, therefore causing higher floodwaters during the wet season. Also, they mention the importance of forests in water absorption of the soil and present solutions to combat soil erosion.
In the 2nd part Austrian permaculturist Sepp Holzer is featured here and he talks about restoring the natural environment in Ecuador through permaculture.

@Gioxtream THis is the way ahead for any land holder. I can assure you, that these techniques produce increased yields in multiples higher than the monocultures prevailing at the moment.
Puddling, best done by pigs does transform a soil. And finally, by retaining more water within a landscape, the sheer abundance of life increases.
All that is needed, is for land to become available and people given the time to evolve more of these farms.

Add in Inca techniques especially terracing layers to handle high groundwater situations, and, their awareness of micro-climates on a grand scale also at altitude yet less rain & colder climate, generally.
Groundwater hydrology is a part of watersheds, consider some of the aquaducts they built were from porous rocks to intentionally leak to supply groundwater to crops for the length of a long valley, it wasn't to merely transport it.
Another technique is waru-waru as a way to conserve water where it freezes a lot, this being revived as snow melt & glacial runoff have decreased in the Andes in general.

Gibt es eine deutsche Übersetzung davon?
Immerhin spricht Sepp Holzer ja Östereichisch, aber man versteht nichts, wegen der synchronisation!

well, his ponds ARE sealed, but just not with pond liner. He seals them by vibration of the excavator's bucket, in shallow water. Mimicking pigs wallowing. If you don't seal a pond like this on a steep slope, you will cause giant mudslides.

You wont get very far with the worldwide soil erosion problem until people are taught about how to prevent it in schools in the countries effected.
The people that continue to deforest or over graze mountainsides usually have no idea what they are causing further down the road.
