Shandong Carrier off Philippines as RIMPAC Targets China With USS Tarawa Sinking | Taiwan Talks

- Days after the world's largest maritime exercises kicked off in the seas around Hawaii, China's Shandong aircraft carrier was spotted off the Philippine island of Luzon. This year’s RIMPAC is the largest iteration to date and organizers say a decommissioned warship will be sunk in a live-fire sinking exercise, or SINKEX. Reports say the exercise will use the former amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa, which has a displacement of 40,000 tons, equivalent to the PLA's Shandong carrier. Beijing's state-run Global Times has meanwhile called RIMPAC a "muscle show" and the U.S. a "paper tiger." Today, we ask what makes this year’s event significant, what message it sends to China and how effective it can be in deterring aggressive behavior by Beijing in the Taiwan Strait and in the South and East China seas.

No one talks about the multi Billion Dollar fishing industry China has turned into when they started their fishing fleets go global. The south china sea alone generates at least a billion for them.. which unfortunately is taking away from immediate claimants like Philippines and Vietnam, who still just fish for their countries while China has turned full global capitalism on fishing.

Philippines should stop recognising the one china policy
China should pay attention and reform their behavior.
If your house is surrounded by your enemy sleeping with your neighbour and pointing the gun to your place. What do you do ? Are you not trying to get a neutral ground in between as a buffer line ? Your enemy is from other area ( is not your neighbour) but your neighbour is not listening to you.
As long as Taiwan, the Philippines being a proxy of the USA do not provoke then there will be no escalation.

Actually, we look upon China's behaviour as example to stand up and deal with America and the rest of the West.
It is only the Western-oriented media that do not dare to cover our defiance toward the West, for they would lose face, and further influence in the region
One example is, Indonesia's dispute with the EU, Jokowi standing up againts Von der Leyen. It mirrors China's dispute with EU. We are very proud to what Jokowi is doing. Very proud! We lead the charge!
The EU problem should affect Philippines prosperity like the rest of ASEAN too.

Philippines sent ships to RIMPAC last time but this time we don't and only sent Filipino observers instead this is due to based from our military all of our ships are busy patrolling the territories.
Shandong is a Floating Tin Can.
Many Filipinos with Chinese blood probably have ties with Taiwanese Chinese rather than main-land Chinese as Taiwan is closer and linked to the Philippines via the very small island chains that are not visible on most world maps.
A couple of these guests have issues communicating with clarity. The US has 11 CSGs and 9 ESG’s. The E is for Expedition and is typically the purview of the US Marines. Each E.S. group is comprised of a number of ships centered by a small Carrier. That carrier will have extensive air capacity, from helicopters to fighter jets meant to support sea to terrestrial action. The Shandong would make for a great RIMPAC exersize target.
So true, and I could actually understand them since not all are that familiar with US Navy structure. Like the 11 CSGs corresponds to their 6 Commands and each command has an average of 2 CSG (usually each will be dispatch alternately).
A lot of people didn't realize that US "Helicopter" Carrier, which I believe they've classified it as Amphibious Assault Ship, carries F-35Bs, and Harrier (not sure if they remove this one). In short, US Helicopter Carrier is carrying multi-role fighters which what Japan will be also doing. US Carriers will carry the F-35Cs.
A lot of countries helicopter carrier don't carry MRFs and purely just helicopters since they don't have MRF capable of launching from such type of ships. Take for example China, its helicopter carrier is only around 30m short than the US, and its only 10+m shorter than Japan, but it only carries helicopter.

Utilizing MDT allows us the opportunity to enhance our military capabilities in order to counter China. While we may not be able to directly compete with their military strength, we can strategically deplete their forces while awaiting support from our allies. This can only be achieved through the unity of ASEAN nations having a defense treaty, similar to NATO.

The Philippines have 4 MBB Bo 105 helicopters capable of delivery of 1000 kg and 3 persons from Palawan to Second Thomas Shoal. Why are these not used as a Berlin airlift to thwart the Chinese Coast Guard? Shooting a water cannon at an aircraft is the use of deadly force unlike (at least in theory) at a ship.
