Welcome to my catch up video of the new Steeldive SD1958 “Black Bay”. Steeldive are particularly good homage watch makers, and this is the latest release, paying homage to the infamous Tudor watch. What will my thoughts be now I've had it a little longer? I wish to thank steeldiveuk.com for lending me this watch. I have not been paid for doing this review, and I must send the watch back. A gesture of thanks to you guys for watching, and to help you out a bit on price, you can put watchmewithwatches5 at checkout to save £5 off any Steeldive watch!

Good call. The thickness is what turned me off.
Me too.
Ditto
Thanks for taking most of the risk for me, my wallet appreciates it! Love your vids.
Good review. I just got this watch, yesterday. Bought it on bracelet, just to have it, but since put it on a strap as that's my preference. So far, I really like the watch, although I would have liked to see the lume on the dial as bright as it is on the bezel. Really good finish, and I love the big crown. Tough to beat this for the money. I had only read about the brand, and mentioned it to my son when he said he was looking for a watch. He bought the white dialed Datejust homage, and when I saw the quality of the watch, I knew I had to buy one. But, I'm an old diver so of course I was going that route. Anyway, we'll see how I get on with it months later, but so far so good. I saved you as an ebay seller too. Good stuff, mate!
Steel Dive produce excellent watches. I recently got the Captain Willard. The Quality is outstanding, especially when it only cost £104. You can't beat the customer service either. When I looked it was out of stock and so I emailed them. Matthew got back to me and said it's actually back in stock this morning. I ordered it there and there and 24 hours later it was in my waiting hand. Great review anyway.
Thanks for sharing!
After getting my childhood dream watch Seiko Turtle, I was so pissed off by the QC... Say no more and then seeing what Steel Dive and San Martin do especially for the price and with Seiko guts as well. I will be getting some of these soon.
Nice look at the watch, I am interested in one of these. I purchased two SD 1975 (Tuna) in the 11.11 sale last year, and I still love them. I do like the no-date option on this.
Nice watch with elements from Tudor, the Explorer and the Sub. Great review as usual my friend 👍
Thanks ✌️
Yes the Chinese are excellent at "borrowing" ideas for watches. I do like how this one was out together for about 150 I can ha e a Sub, Tudor and ,Exp....lol. lovely watch. How is the WR.
I wonder if it has a date wheel under that dial being as there is a ghost position for it. Just a thought for modding one.
Thank you! It really hps knowing the dial diameter for buying it having another dial options in mind!
Happy to help!
Hiya mate love the reviews especially for the SteelDive range. Question what would be the closest one to the omega sea master. My pocket won’t stretch to the genuine one. 👍
No news on a Seamaster homage from Steeldive. Keep your eyes peeled though, they are expanding their range constantly!
Thanks for your help. I’m also looking for a sea master planet ocean GMT homage any ideas?
They have them on braclet now
I just bought a BB58. It should come by the weekend. Fingers crossed for long term enjoyment.
Super butch finger wound btw
Did you buy a real one? Nice mate ! I've got my eyes on a Breitling Colt of some kind..
@@NathanChisholm041 it definitely looks like a real one. One day we'll have our grail watches!
@@funkmon Yeah true! I'm also considering a Fortis B42 chrono. I love the brand and their watches and they aren't too expensive considering.
Great review. It’d help to have a link to your site where we could buy your straps. Still can’t find it.
This must be an old vid before I started the business!
Check out any of my latest videos from the past year, links are in the description. Thanks!
I'm a big fan of oversized crowns, just give so much presence to casing.
Totally, its such a useful thing to do, make the crown a useful size!
Jason, I could not agree more, a large crown and no crown guards shout VINTAGE out loud.
Good review, might I suggest one more addition to compliment you two trusty review assistants, it’s name is Timegrapher, I’m very interested to see how manufacturers adjust/regulate the movements before sending them out to be sold. My personal limit is +/-8 spd, anything more than would need looking at, which would of course incur more cost. Many thanks, keep up the good work👍👍
Great suggestion!
Other than the Snowflakes, it doesn't really look like a BB, no gilt edge on the indices on the dial, no black dial with blue
or red bezel. Not that it's a bad watch to look at, just doesn't scratch that BB itch for me.
I know what you mean, but as an homage its good to not try too hard at copying and to have some differences.
Bought about a year or so ago i bought a steeldive bronze watch with a date at 6 its my all time favourite watch still in my honeymoon phase wth that watch after 1 yr and 8 months the watch is PERFECT .....AMAZEBALLS
I am thinkng of buying the san martin sn008-g? What do you think? Nothing online about it is a tudor bb58 homage
Just ordered mine
Very nice watch and review, I have the SD1954 and prefer it to the SD1958 as I’m not keen on the Arabics at 3,6 &9. Although I like the SD1954 dial, I prefer the SD1958’s case with large crown and no crown guards. The ideal watch would be the SD 1958 with the SD1954 dial and hands.
Good review. I'm seriously considering the bronze version of this. The Steeldive strap is, indeed, poxy. Either your rubber strap or a "pinstripe" NATO would make it perfect.
Thanks Marcus
The Bronzes are on my list too.
I'm not sure if anything is ugly as a bronze watch
"Take a look with fresh eyes." Don't know if it's your lighting, but you look knackered, mate!
I think I need less dazzling lights! Lol
I know that blue AR coating can be off putting for some but it made me wonder how cool this watch would look with that Aqua blue color done in a high polish on the rehaut?
Thats a great idea, work with what you have got and make it an asset
Great review!!! Tell Sid I said HI!!!
Will do!!
On reflection, I agree that the logo Is a bit complicated. I would like to see just STEELEDIVE under the 12 and a simple SD on the crown.
Totally, keep it simple!
That’s an epic strap and watch combo. Just a couple more weeks to find out when my company starts up again then I will be returning to watch collecting.
Good luck Chris, is all ok over in Canada?
@@watchmewithwatches - No worries Dan. Thank you. The 🇨🇦 Atlantic coast cities are the safest place in North America. The only problem is mandated restrictions has slowed business for many. Better days are around the corner. 👍🏻
It's like the Pagani Autavia, it looks great from the front but fat from the sides (there's an ex girlfriend joke in there somewhere) looked a lot better on a decent strap at the end though. A watch for big wrists. Cheers Dan
Thanks Dave,
What do you expect from a NH-35? 🤣
@ DAVEMCK. IT'S CALLED "EBD" , MATE. EXPANDING BUTT DISEASE !! USUALLY HITS EM, RIGHT OUT OF UNIVERSITY !!!
@@richardclark1077 Lol 😂🤣
I like thick watches even if that thicness is not necessarily at all. I like when my watch is chunky, wide, thick and hefty. I love feeling them on my wrist. So that one would be perfect on a good aftermarket bracelet. Thanks for the video, informative.
Well said!
Saved your store Dan and i'm sure i'll pick up a strap or 2 over time , what caught my eye though was the CK watch lol looks really nice ..... who knew CK has a good looking watch lol
Thanks Alan, I appreciate that.
At least Steeldive have understood logo & branding should be used consistently. I have a strong craving for a decent homage of a major brands with a T 😉 This one isn't too far from what I am looking for. Maybe the bezel needs to be less shiny and the watch needs to have vintage golden indices and markers.
Great point!
Great review as ever but I got this watch on a stainless steel bracelet.
15:49 lume shot
Looks much nicer with the upgraded strap
Thanks
Great vid Dan, thanks muchly 😊
Can I mention something as viewer feedback? Please try to refrain from stroking/wiping watches with you thumbs when filming. Its just leaving smears and doesnt do much for the optics 👍
Thanks king of thieves. White gloves are in the post. Ordered them today.
I have been all over the place about the Black Bay. From considering to buying the authentic version to a homage, I've looked at everything from Pagani to San Martin and then this. I am a huge fan of the watch that they all, including the Black Bay, are homaging: the Rolex 6538 Big Crown. It is by all measures unobtainable. That being said, this Steeldive is hands down my favorite homage to this point, including the Black Bay, which although is credited for this overall design, relies too much on gilt and looks more like an ornament than a tool watch. In contrast, that's where this version soars. It looks just like what I'd imagine Rolex doing if they made a new version of the 6538. The polished ceramic bezel just fits this better than the matte aluminum on the Black Bay and the heightened sapphire crystal tops it off nicely. The 3, 6, and 9 arabics are the touch that I think puts it over the top and pairs it closely with the Rolex 5510. The Black Bay only has them on the bronze version and they take up more space on the dial making it feel not only more nostalgic but more lived in rather than the spaced out dots. I'd love to see it on a Bond nato. If they cleaned up the logo design and put it on a better strap this would unquestionably be the perfect watch. I just pulled the trigger on it and can't wait to try several straps with it. Would love to see a vid on the green and blue variations soon!
I think you will really enjoy it! I like your observations made, I agree, a new logo would really improve this watch, plus come to me for a new strap and it's a winner!
I bought a steel dive subby, loved it , it was about 80 percent for and finish, nothing astounding but for the money not bad , but it steamed up twice from body heat alone so totally lost my confidence in it , returned no issue but won't risk another now
I know what you mean, but I think they are really upping their game. Its so competitive out there!
Better keep that cut clean or you'll get infected with Phylida! Like the tropic strap really like the back side diamond waffle pattern that might be interesting. Also a chocolate bar strap a la "Willard" would be great too.
I agree, got some coming in stock soon!
Bro, you can get bandaids with like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and dinosaurs.
As soon as I get a new one it's worn off lol Back onto Ali to size up the next watch;-)
Its an illness we all share!
I love my Steeldive Willards but asked them to do a day/date version like a Turtle - but they replied they won't be. Since then I have two recent Seiko Turtles (one a King Turtle) with excellent QC and very happy with them. But I can't help but think Steeldive are missing a trick here by not doing a day/date Turtle homage. You can only ask them I guess.
They are available now.
I have one on the way for a friend..
@@e28forever30 yes - one on the way for me too!
I'm in China and you can buy this for $150. I'll give it a try thanks.
Do you think it was actually tested for 200m?
I understand they do test their watches.
Hi Mark. I'm also in China; I saw steeldive on taobao. Did you get any of their watches? If yes, how is it?
my only complaint is that i play all your videos at 1.25 speed and they are great, 1.5 times is to much, but 1 speed is very lethargic. because i do it for most sites, but just fyi
I'm confused
Cutting your thumb, Dan! Are you trying to be like Marc at Long Island Watches? 😉
Lol, that would be silly. No, I was cutting a tennis ball to use it as a template to make a wooden tennis ball!
@@watchmewithwatches Making a wooden tennis ball is only very slightly less silly than emulating Marc!

Thank you!
Take the bezel away and it’s small .
I know what you mean, a small dial on a big watch
Throwing tenis balls into prison lol heehee
You should think about using some gloves when showing the watch. All the smudging and oily finger prints is way to distracting. Such a small purchase that will elevate the presentation in your videos. Please think about it.
Fair enough. Just don't like white gloves.
Bought some anyway lol
@@watchmewithwatches I forgot who it was but saw one of your fellow watch youtubers use light Gray gloves as the same material they looked sharp. Thanks for answering back. Good luck with everything you do Brother.

Sorry too much waffle

Thank you for your feedback, which many others have iterated in some of my longer videos. Or did you just eat too much waffle and wanted to tell me?
Hahahaha
No I don’t eat waffles 🧇 don’t like em.

Good Man.
I'll say another thing. How dare you say that stuff about Geepas. World famous, everybody knows about Geepas. You've just downgraded him to "not even a person."
I appreciate the strap fashion shows btw. I might pick up a rubber strap.
Geepas is who now? lol
Geepas is my trusty sidekick
Why oh why all Brit tubers turn out to be (strap) sellers???? (Easy answer: EVERYTHING is expensive in old Albion, EVERYONE can trade ANYTHING cause they are too snobbish to check on their own!!!) LMAO
Nothing wrong with being an entrepreneur.
What does "check on their own" mean? I agree things are expensive here in Britain.
