    Loved that Hulk Hogan intro. Its so cool to see you talk about wrestling. It blows my mind that you met Ric Flair. I got into watching wrestling through my dad too. He has so many fond memories of 1980s wrestling. Technos did a sensational job with this game. Everything about is perfect and has so much attention to detail. It really shows Japanese game designers have a massive adoration for wrestling. My dad absolutely loved this game and WrestleFest as a kid. Its mad to see how far wrestling games have come since the early 80s. Exceptional video Pat!

      Yup. The sprites are very similar to the arcade version. Very cool that they made a Gameboy version of it. I'd say that it's the best wrestling game on the Gameboy. Just about anything that was developed by Rare back then was a home run. Just a shame that it's SO bareboned... I also really wish that they had stuck with Rare for WWF Superstars 2 but it's not bad. Two of my favourite moves are, 1. with Savage or Warrior, atomic drop an opponent so they bounce of the ropes(they must bounce off the ropes), then stand on the turnbuckle and wait for the opponent to stand dazed and panting, then hit any button and fly kick them half way across the ring lol. 2nd favourite was to throw the opponent out the ring and fast double tap both buttons simultaneously to lunge out of the ring landing on top of them 😁

    One tip that I could recall from this game was to stand behind your opponent's body, after you drop him on the canvas twice! Just wait for him to stand up, and he should be tired like he's out of breath, leaving him vulnerable to your 3rd attack.
    The best chance that I had in beating this game in the last match with Andre and Ted, was to lure Andre outside the ring, have him follow me back in the on Ted's side. Once he tags Ted, I move back to where my tag team partner is, knock down Ted only a couple times, tag my partner to climb in and throw Ted out the ring, then perform a jump attack from the top rope. After that, I climb back in the ring before Andre arrives, drop Ted on his butt once more, then tag again for my partner to elbow drop him and pin him. 😎
    If Andre manages to haul himself to my side if the ring and stomp me off during the 3 count, I just repeat all those steps that I had mentioned earlier, but the next time that badly beaten Ted gets pinned, Andre won't run up and save him.😎

  • @wmiekka
    @wmiekka Před 3 lety

    I personally like how the out of ring fighting is handled in Superstars more than Wrestlefest. It’s always frustrated me that you can’t just leave the ring in Wrestlefest unless someone is thrown out. Then when both wrestlers are back inside the game just jump cuts with them back in their starting position in the middle of the ring. It’s fun to try and clothesline your opponents right as they get back in the ring in Superstars. Also I wish they could have kept the ability to jump off the turnbuckle to the outside or the ability to run and perform a diving attack on your opponent when they are on the sides of the ring.

    Westlemania the arcade game is one of the best wrestling arcade games, have you ever played it? It released in 1995 in the arcade, and was ported to numerous consoles at the time. Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Sega 32X, PC, Sony Playstation, Sega Saturn. The best home port being on the Sony Playstation, at the time I had it for Genesis, because I didn't get a Play Station until Christmas 1996 when I was 12.

      Not only have I played the game also done the video on. I spent so many quarters on this game it was ridiculous. I love playing as Shawn Michaels because I knew all of his moves and combos.

    You do get a count of 20 to get back in the ring in Japanese wrestling. Every wrestling game developed in Japan follows this rule also, like Pro Wrestling for the NES and Saturday Night Slam Masters, for example.

    Absolutely obsessed with this game when I was a kid. The 711 at the end of my block had and have spent a few hundred dollars in the machine.

    I had cutey suzukis ringside angel!.... my mate had a Japanese mega drive importanted into the UK before its release. Sadly later on he became a heroin adduct. Selling me his games fir peanuts at the age of 15 . I had no idea until his Demise via an o.d aged 18 (murdered by his dealer due to his snoring apparently) - i had a fare few games from him. Twin cobra. Musha. Rambo. That womens wrestling game. And a few others. All you had to do was remove the case leaving the pcb for it to play on the pal mega drive.

    It came out when the Mega Powers had split up but I still used them in the game. It was weird when it was being developed they included 6 playable characters and 4 of them were faces and only two were heels.

    Double Dragon Reloaded makes you wonder why some of the Face Wrestlers are playing villains or why Billy and Jimmy look evil, though for the Wrestlers they could point to the director and go, “He said to.”

    This review is AWESOME !
    I would add to this that with the FoxM1 M1 sound-only emulator by Matt Kellner (KieferSkunk) you can listen to the entire 506 entries in the WWF Superstars ROM music and sound bytes
    However, on the "506" only 70 can be listen and some are duplicate. BUT there's alot of gems in those
    There's alot of sound and music NOT use in the actual game.
    Note that can also listen other game such as WWF Wrestlefest and even music from WWF Royal Rumble pinball machine and other game.
