    I have been printing these shields for a week now, and am currently able to produce between 15-20 shields per day. With the help of a friend we are able to support 3 huge local hospitals we have contact to. Till now, our printers are working nearly 24 hours a day. Via Crowdfunding we get new material. And now i just saw this headline of the video and am blessed, that Linus can, by using his connections, ressources and sponsors help others who need those shields to stay healthy, and to help others.
    Thank you so much, but not only you. All who have a printer, forget about what the filament may cost or how much effort you might have. Print as many as you can, every single one can help!
    Edit: Thanks for so many likes :)

    I'm a former injection mold maker. It takes about a month to make a working injection mold. Mold makers and injection molding shops thank you. I used to work at a mold shop that specialized in medical injection molds. I know that they are doing everything in their power to help. Print farms are a great way to help fill the need for equipment immediately. An injection mold can produce one face shield frame a second but new molds need to be made and tested. Our current economy runs on an at-capacity-production model to maximize profits. This type of production does not leave room to ramp up production. Thank you LTT for what you are doing.

    • @UMADBRO64
      @UMADBRO64 Před 4 lety +5

      @@steveman1982 Nope. Hes right. Time span for making a mold and setting it up is about a month, if you have multiple people working together, on the same page.
      Tool and die making is a highly specialized field of manufacturing engineering, that requires very specific, very itterative work, with a ton of very specific math, on top of the materials required basically being one off special orders that are not to mention, stupidly expensive and difficult to work with, because you're working with literally thousands of pounds of tool steel that need to be precisely machined, and ground.
      Then you actually need to hook the die up to machinery, and set up the logistics.
      Its going to take time for manufacturers to tool up for this because a single die costs tens, if not hundreds of thousands to make and set up.

    Glad to see you guys spoke with the two guys in the 3D print space regarding validation and approval. Working in the biotech sector, even with lifted restrictions, you still want to make sure the product you have is reusable and can be sterilized quickly using equipment available at the site. A single use face shield helps, but if it can't be sterilized before or after use you could end up creating another problem.

      @jon9947 Před 4 lety +14

      Plus you wasted valuable time of the hospital personnel by asking if they needed them, I mean it was great of you for thinking of them, but people need to stop this unless a hospital seeks you out. If a hospital needs them, they will find people to make them, but what they dont need is people giving them more work than they already have.
      Lets also not forget that hospitals are the best place to catch the virus, so if you go to your local hospital to ask if they need them (and once again you shouldnt), you take the risk of catching the virus or giving someone the virus.

    i work at a t shirt/ print shop , my boss is working 12 hours every day making faceshields.
    we have several hundred meters of Forex foamboard to make the headband parts, and we use 100 micron laminated foil for the shield itself
    the foamboard is drilled and secured to the laminating with metal studs
    he has made several hundreds of them in a day. he has donated at least a thousand to hospitals all around the country, its faster and cheaper to make than 3D printed ones, so EVEN IF you don't have a 3D printer you can help !!

      COVID-19 has a laughably low mortality rate, the group it affects the most would be at risk from pretty much any disease and the damage which were are doing to our economies will be far worse and far more lasting than anything COVID-19 has done so far.

      My whole country went on a complete lockdown when it only had 100 cases and no one seems to be complaining about the economy. Economy can improve, life lost can't be returned.

      @@Corristo89 It's sad when people think more about the economy rather then the people dying from covid 19. Think a little bit about how fast the virus has spread and killed more people in months then the seasonal flu does in a year. There's a reason why countries are locking down and implementing quarantines because it's going to do way more damage than doing nothing. (edit: I mean less not more)
      "Initial data show that the coronavirus is deadlier. In the U.S., seasonal flu kills 1 in a thousand people (0.1%) who get sick from it - the death toll last season was more than 34,000. Worldwide, an estimated 300,000 to 650,000 people die from flu each year.
      By contrast, COVID-19 is currently estimated to kill at least 10 people per thousand infected (1%). "It's about 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu," said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Disease, in congressional testimony on March 11"

    We have 4 utility 3 3D printers one to each office in the uk, a person from each office has taken a printer home and we have made sure we have enough supply of the PETG filament to help our local hospitals where PPE is in short supply were averaging one complete print per 3 hours from each machine.
