CRAZY SOLID Metal THOR Hammer Build 91lb

  • Sorry but website with templates and plans is now down thanks to hackers and running costs.
    What sorcery is this? You can make your own real metal Thor’s hammer and take back to your chambers for less that 100 gold coins? Yup. In this project I make Mjölnir, Thor's legendary hammer. I wanted it to be something epic, a talking point, something with a use, but still DIY buildable and relatively cheap and safe if you wanted a cheeky project. Some of my projects take on a name as I build them, I decided to call this hammer Alf.
    Film clips used under 'Fair Use' section 107, were from Thor and Thor The Dark World. Both excellent films go check them out.

    Hi there! You inspired me and my friends to attempt making this as a gift and we ended up very close with a 43kg Mjolnir as well! I hope you enjoy it here and thank you so very much for the details you left in the description. They were amazingly helpful.

      Also, Thor's hammer weights 42 pounds, but certain people can't lift it because the aren't worthy. That's why the coat rack can hold it because it's not a living thing and doesn't have the ability to be worthy

    I would probably be able to lift it up above my head with both hands, but one hand ? fuck that rofl.

    But then again, the shape and weight distribution probably makes it weird to lift up.

    Actually, the weight of Mjolnir IS KNOWN. If memory serves, it is 42.3 lbs as stated in the about/statistics Mjolnir page in one of the Thor comics. I know because I made one that was EXACTLY 42.3 lbs so Magnus Beasticus could use it at Cons. It will also crush concrete blocks. Btw, the comic book version does not have any writing/runes/glyphs etc., on it.

    looking at the periodic table of elements i know there are elements more dense than lead, which means there are heavier elements than lead. have you considered trying to build thor's hammer out of something like tungsten? i know it would cost like $2000, but that hammer would weigh a considerable amount more

    • @HK-bi2gy
      @HK-bi2gy Před 7 lety

      yeah i got curious and did a quick lookup of their densities for lead and tungsten. it turns out that tungsten is roughly 58% more dense than lead, so if i calculated it correct a thor's hammer filled with tungsten would weigh about 143 lbs

    • @HK-bi2gy
      @HK-bi2gy Před 7 lety

      ive done a little research into the idea of purchasing a block of tungsten. because of tungsten having the highest melting point on the periodic table, it is extremely difficult to produce a large block of pure tungsten. my idea i came up with as a result would be to construct thor's hammer steel shell like in the first build. then laying in sheets of tungsten on top of one another and then sealing them in with a steel plate and welding it shut

    • @christopherbackus5578
      @christopherbackus5578 Před 7 lety

      You could fill it with tungsten pellets. It'd be pretty noisy, but I think pellets would be easier to source than sheets. Maybe tungsten powder?
