Gal recorded a beautiful Portuguese version of "Lately", by Stevie Wonder (back in the 80s). It's beautiful. Stevie Wonder and Quince Jones worked with this generation of Brazilian artists, from Gal, Djavan, Gil, Caetano, and others.
Probably is Caetano's Veloso one of the most famous songs, an artist which Gal recorded many songs. Althought is a very popular song is not a simply one. Caetano wrote for his friend, another singer called Roberto Carlos. Roberto Carlos once told Caetano "Artist never gets old" and that originated in the lyric "I saw many grey hairs On the artist forehead". At that time Caetano just have had his first son Moreno Veloso, he was around 6 when the song came out probably that why in the lyrics "I saw a boy running I saw the time playing around the way Of that boy". The song merge the way of life and the way of art choosing metaphors and real facts to explain both of those phenomenons as the narrator tells a story of what he once lived or saw and what gives his strenght to keep moving foward as the time goes on, something that he doesn't even comprehend "strange force". In the 70s black people in Brasil used to call music like the gap band, zapp, " balanço " that means something like swing, and it was kind of a big thing in part of black comunity!
