In my Ultimate Engineering Filament Series I talked a lot about material "creep" but didn't really explain it. This #short shows why you should care.
PLA might be technically one of the strongest [unfilled] 3D printing filaments, but it has some critical flaws for engineering applications, one of which is its extremely poor creep resistance. That means it shouldn't be used for constant-loading applications. Especially in environments above normal room temperature.
This is why I have an enclosed printer and print primarily with ABS.
Creepy indeed ;) Especially if the hook is above your head.
Does the creep happen differently across the different types of PLA or is it consistent regardless of Pro/Plus/Tough?
Actually I do not know. I'm tempted to do a wider experiment with more materials. Particularly with the PLA variants and some of the nylons.
General issue of PLA, worsened if blended
