This great display of Muscle Cars showcased cars either built or sold new in Canada. They include some Beaumont SDs, a 1969 Pontiac Trans Am convertible, plus other Mopar and GM offerings, even a Modge!

A bit of context: Pontiac in Canada was a more volume brand and needed to be closer to Chevy in pricing. There were, at the time, duties on US built cars coming into Canada. And, the Canadian market is roughly 1/10 the size of the US.
That led to Canadian built Pontiacs that leveraged Chevy mechanicals both to make them hit a more volume price point and to make it easier to manufacture in GM of Canada plants.
Full-size Pontiacs used Chevy frames and powertrains with Pontiac bodies and interiors. The mid-sized cars (Beaumonts) were Chevelles with different grills and LeMans interior bits. The Acadian gave Pontiac dealers a small (Nova-based) car. Technically, the Beaumont and Acadians weren't Pontiacs, but their own lines sold through Pontiac dealers, but there were essentially part of the Canadian Pontiac line up.
When Canada and US signed a trade agreement (the Auto Pact) in the late 1960s, meaning importing cars wasn't a big deal, we eventually shifted to the US Pontiac line up in Canada.

In 1966, my parents finally dumped their silly 60 Morris Oxford (my sister and I hated that car) and bought a 1966 Canadian Valiant Custom 200. It was the only V8 car my parents ever owned (273 with the two-barrel carb). My mom caught a few drivers off the line who didn’t think a compact car with two kids in the back could move away from the stoplight with that much aplomb. They kept it until 1971 when they replaced the Valiant with a 72 Volvo 144s.
Speaking of the Beaumont, in 1966, my grandpa traded his 59 Plymouth Belvedere for a 1966 Beaumont. He stuck with GM cars for the next 30 years.

These subgroup vehicles came about due to tariff law changes in Canada, USA. and a lesser extent some Euro and Japanese imports. The trendiest helped prop overall pricing while increased the sales of big 3 vehicles. The changes like the Parisienne and Beaumont allowed popular American brands to subsist in both Canada and USA markets while still allowing assembly of parts and final build in either country. My 1968 Sport Fury was clearly Marked Made by Chrysler LTD CANADA though was purchased in Macomb County, Michigan.

I’ve seen that Cheetah at a few shows up in Vancouver BC. The simple explanation about a Beaumont is, it’s a Chevelle with Pontiac GTO interior and Lemans taillights. So Chevy running gear and Pontiac trimmed. Nice combo. Too bad wasn’t explained much by that guy.

I was surprised to learn recently that there were some Canadian Pontiacs built with 409s! I’d love to see one of those, I wonder if any of them still survive? If one of those showed up at a car show it would blow everyone’s minds to find such a car was even built.

Canadian here, I think these Beaumonts look cooler than the Chevelle's they're based on. Am I biased? Trying not to be but just one feature on the '66-'67 are the "gills" on the sides behind the doors gives it a unique muscle car look and even the grilles look a little sportier with the split feature - not nearly as pronounced as Pontiacs - but again, just my observation. At 10:29, I caught a glimpse of the famous 1984 Car Review Round 1 Hemi vs. Stage 1 "Shootout" cars back together for the first time since that legendary "little guy" race that really shook the musclecar hobby back then. I was a bit disappointed that Kevin didn't get that on camera! That was a VERY popular display at MCACN and showed those two cars together just as they appeared on the cover of Car Review magazine after CR covered that race in their March 1985 issue. BTW, it was THAT race that started the entertaining Hemi vs. Stage 1 controversy for many years to come.
I saw so many guys around that display, that even included a "Christmas Tree"! Both the 1970 GS Stage 1 and the 1970 GTX Hemi appeared just as they were "back in the day". BTW, just google "Hot Rod Hemi Killer" to see the only (amateur) video of that old race. The "Hemi Killer" moniker was given to this GS by Hod Rod magazine in their April 2014 issue which featured a full page on that old race that never died. It was a real part of musclecar history.
