  • How to Reverse Heart Disease FAST! - I Took the Dr. Esselstyn Reverse Heart Disease Program!
    On August 15, I had a stroke after having been on the KETO and then the Carnivore diets. Both of these diets were extremely high in animal products and saturated fats. Although after my stroke, I initially decided to remain on the carnivore diet, since that time I have studied the research extensively and made the personal decision to switch from the carnivore diet to a whole foods plant based diet.
    In this video I share information about why I am making the change and also information about a heart disease reversal course Alan and I will be taking very soon.
    If you have any opinions about this, or anything you’d like to add, I hope you’ll share the information in the comments section below the video. That way we can help each other! XXOO Beth

    I recently had a hospital scare after being on carnivore for three weeks, and decided no more for me. I am whole food plant based to stay. I do not know what I was thinking , as my intial thought was to get back to plant based, but got swayed by all the you tube channels and thought it would be a good way to go. I am lucky to not have had a stroke or heart attack but I will never eat that way again. It scared the heck out of me. A commentor on my channel pointed me to your channel and I am so happy they did. I look forward to watching your videos and learning from your experience.

    Very well done video. I had a stroke back in 2009 and damaged part of my vision in my left eye. I went to library found dr esseltyn's book changed my diet immediately. With in two weeks changed all my numbers to heart healthy numbers lost about 15 pounds and have been eating plant based since. I'm now 64 and I'm on zero meds mountain bike daily work a very physical job and feel amazing. My eye damage has improved, which the eye doctor said would never happen, and my eye sight also improved. which usually never happens as you age. Just wanted you to know it really works and it works long term . I'm glad you found the truth about heart health it can be very confusing topic. Good luck on your journey. I subscribed to follow your success, I know its going to be great.

Please just email me at empowerbeth@gmail.com. Your stroke must’ve been in the right part of your brain. Mine was, and it apparently controlled my left eye. I think so too! I wouldn’t recommend that anyone goes through a stroke to try to change their life, but in my case, I think it was really a blessing. I probably have some residual effects from the stroke, may be a bit of memory loss at times, but I really think, the stroke was a gift to me to change the dangerous path I was on. I was just telling my husband Alan last night that thank God for that small stroke because if I had not had that in another year or two years, I could’ve had a major stroke in my life would’ve been immeasurably changed. I feel very lucky and thank you Michael for your nice comment. I appreciate your good thoughts.

We were in shock. How can this be???? It just goes to show that we ALL have to find our paths. I truly hope this diet will be perfect for you. Actually, Alisha those things you mentioned +2 more that the doctors initially thought may have caused my stroke turned out to not be the reason. That’s why I went to diet to look into that. All my life I’ve eaten the standard American diet or been on keto and or carnivore. All of those plans were extremely heavy meat and dairy. I had super high cholesterol after eating so much saturated fat. I won’t do that again for sure.

      The problem is there is no real link between cholesterol and heart attack or stroke. Dr. Esselstyn and cronie's epidemiologic studies are seriously flawed. If one looks into the UNBIASED research, it is the unnatural, man made seed oils/omega 6/lineolic acid , etc. fats that are linked to pathology, not saturated animal fats. The issue is not meat, and animal products. I don't think one has to be extreme in either direction surrounding them. 3 years ago this lady was doing an interview with Dr. Ken Berry and condemning documentaries like Forks over Knives, and this philosophy b/c she was eating that way and was experiencing multiple health issues and weight 200 lbs (per her). I do not understand why she would go back to such an extreme diet that was not working for her - however I do know that the mainstream medical world , particularly cardiology has been captured by the plant based movement. She appears to now be a spokesperson for. I imagine her fear after her stroke allowed her to be manipulated by this movement. This style of eating is not good for anyone long term. I don't think extremely high fat is either. I think finding what works for an individual is best, but that is not what is going on here. She is just promoting another extreme agenda.
      The only thing low LDL is correlated with is increased mortality and morbidity. Sadly, those cholesterol numbers are not what are making you or anyone 'heart attack proof'. Other things you and others have/are doing are likely responsible - exercise, good diet (no processed food, no excess sugar, no seed oils, as little PUFA as possible, animal/saturated fat), no smoking, low stress, good social relationships).

Many of us do this in private but by sharing this journey, you have helped so many of us who may be questioning whether we are doing the right thing. There are carnivore diet influencers who look so fit and healthy eating the way you used to. I wonder for how long. Then I look at Whole Food Plant Based people like Miki Kirk, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. John McDougall, and Dr. T. Colin Campbell, all who are living into their late 80's and 90's and are sharp as a tack and I wonder to myself, "should I be listening to these wise "old" people who have lived and eaten this way for decades and are mostly medication free or the younger carnivore diet influencers who are still in their prime?"

      @@FiftyPlusBeauty it is not the animal saturated fats causing the disease. It is the up-regulation of TRPV1 in the pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin stimulated by sugar. The insulin then restimulates TRPV1 again.
      Too much TRPV1 causes too much glucose (sugar) metabolism in the cell leading to oxidation in excess of the cell’s antioxidant supply. TRPV1 on mitochondria in the cell -> too much oxidation of lipids(fat)that we see in atherosclerosis.
      Too much TRPV1 in the paraventricular nucleus causes low sodium(hyponatremia) and hypoosmolality that stimulates TRPV4 in the artery. TRPV4 and klf4 in atherosclerosis are markers for the dangerous inflammatory phenotype of the smooth muscle cells of the artery that become the foamy macrophages that ingest the oxidized lipids in atherosclerosis while the smooth muscle cells become osteoblast-like cells and deposit calcium in the artery wall. This transcriptome also has a thin fibrous cap over the plaque lesion at high risk of rupture and stroke.
      Doctors in medical school are not taught about transient receptor potential channels that include TRPV1 and TRPV4. The pharmaceutical companies know all about these channels and have unsuccessfully tried to develop a systematic drug to counteract them.

I have found great recipes through The Happy Herbivore cookbooks, John McDougall, MD cookbooks, Plant You cookbook…to name a few. There are so many great plant based resources available!!

      Hi Sandra. Thanks for all the great cookbook recommendations! I have to admit that has been hard for me to find good plant-based recipes. I really appreciate that.

    As a male vegan under fifty, my only previous experience of you, was seeing you say you were going to continue eating carnivore your stroke. I'm so very happy to see this video. Congratulations to you! Live long and prosper!

    Beth I am so proud of you. I mentioned on a previous comment that my husband had a TIA last month, he won’t go plant based, which I believe in. I have changed his diet ,to be low fat, and once a week make a vegan meal for him. Please don’t listen to the negative comments. You look wonderful. 🤗😘

    After you stroke and your video with you saying you were going to continue the carnivore diet I actually unsubscribed to your channel, I apologize but I just thought, ok this lady is not playing with a full deck and I'm not going to follow her anymore. I actually watch Mic the vegan's video and he showed you went to Dr Esselstyn and I screamed out loud - YES!!!!! I came back to your channel and subscribed again. I am SO HAPPY you are putting your health first and did a drastic change, your body will respond quickly, it wants to heal!! So happy for you and thank you so much for sharing and possibly saving someone else's life. Wanted to mention - I have been vegan for 31 years and in my 50's. No medications, perfect blood markers, muscle mass and thriving. I think you are going to like the WFPB way of living.

    Awesome video and content Beth! I have the "How not to Die" book given to me from a great friend/doctor a couple years ago, and yet I still forged ahead thinking low carb/keto was the only way to be healthy and not gain weight as I've aged.
    You have changed my way of thinking 100% and I am so appreciative. Will be starting this diet ASAP.
    Thank you for this. Are you not eating protein at all anymore in the way of meats?

    • @FiftyPlusBeauty
      @FiftyPlusBeauty  Před 6 měsíci +6

      Hi Susan. No, I am not eating any meat at all for protein. I will be doing a video about that soon as the research shows we Americans think we need way too much protein. Am so happy you will be joining me in this. You’ll be surprised at how much weight you can lose on the Whole Foods plant-based diet. I didn’t really need to lose any weight and I’ve lost a couple of pounds. My husband, Alan has lost 15 pounds which he did need to lose on this eating plan. He is very happy.

    Beth i am so interested in this new diet, however i struggle with literature that says a bit of a higher fat diet. Ie nuts and avocados help combat dementia bc our brain needs healthy fats. Please let me know your thoughts.

    • @FiftyPlusBeauty
      @FiftyPlusBeauty  Před 6 měsíci +5

      I wrestle w that too. Dr Esselstyn says people w existing heart disease need to avoid those fats. He says if you don’t have existing problems you can use them.

    I’m glad that ur feeling better and happy with ur decision to switch up ur eating plan Beth. I really enjoy ur channel and only wish the best for u. I’m curious how ur IBS symptoms are with this change in ur diet? Wasn’t that one of the main reasons u went carnivore in the first place?

    Thanks for sharing, Beth. My blood numbers are always better on plant based. I probably need to cut down on avocados and nuts. Shame about your lovely peanut butter sandwich but maybe when you're a few months on the program you can ease up and have the occasional treat. I'm never totally perfect on my plant-based diet. I enjoy eating it much more than meat-based. I happen to love vegetables - zucchini (peeled) is one that never affects my IBS. I also make sure beans are well soaked and cooked (pressurised is best) to minimise IBS problems. Small frequent meal, easy on the raw. I used to like Dr. Neal Barnard but found he was too low on fats. I need some in my diet. Good health to you for 2024 and beyond xoxo

    Beth❤❤❤ I so hope you see this comment. I can not thank you enough. I have been slim most of my life but just like you I have intestinal problem s and found the keto diet to help so much in fact I was normal. I heard you tell of your high cholesterol and since I had an appointment with my doctor I asked if he would test my cholesterol. He laughed at me and said that I would never have that problem but I was tested anyway, but long story short I now have high cholesterol. I am so shocked . Had it not been for you I wouldn’t have thought to get tested and a stroke could be in my future. Thank you so much for what you do. I think salads, vegetables and oatmeal are in my future. I couldn’t wait to tell you how right you are in sharing this info. ❤

      Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! I am so glad you had your cholesterol tested. It really doesn’t take too long on a plant-based diet to see very positive changes in that. Many blessings to you and I wish you wonderful good health.

    Not sure if you’ll read this or respond. I’m curious if you will also track your body composition within change in eating? My concern is muscle loss as well as osteoporosis. My heart beating to keep my frail weakened body would not be a way to age in my opinion. One of the documentaries I watched comparing a vegan diet to healthy omnivore diet showed the vegan participants lost muscle over just 8 weeks in spite of following a regimen with a personal trainer
